And it's totally busted with Kallista and Ashe.
Is he a viable support? His shield is pretty good and if he can get the ADC and sup in his ult, it's pretty much over.
I guess it's really only really good if there's a lot of AP. What do you guys think?

The biggest issue that draws him back from viable support is his lack of lane bullying presence during laning phase. Normally, supports are strong early game to pressure opponents off and babysit adc, but galio is stronger late game and just doesn't offer as much early. He doesn't deal massive damage from afar like zyra, is extremely mana hungry if he attempts to trade pokes, and doesn't offer hard cc like

It does have kill potential but is relatively harder since it would require him to walk up close, whereas someone like or can ult from miles away. And yes like garen udyr volibear, leona can press Q and screw up galio ult, but if she's caught in it she can't use ult during the taunted state.
You certainly can make a play with his ult - in fact most galio players do - but I'd say it's more suited to protect his teammates when you've got like zed j4 riven etc diving str8 into your team, and that kinda defines his role as a "guardian".

I've played Galio support a few times (very rarely because I don't play tank supports that well/often) and I generally max the shield for my ADC, albeit there's probably some better strategy for it. I'd consider him a somewhat viable support, but it depends on how well your team can abuse your ult. You have a way of helping your team escape with the trail left from your E. As for items... I couldn't tell ya as it's been too long.

As for only good against majority AP teams, no he works fine against AD, but you have to understand your role, have good positioning and itemize accordingly.

With a build like this you're a tanky CC machine, meant to take the brunt of the damage and speed up your team, slow down the enemy, and lock them in place. It sadly wastes his passive, but it keeps him relevant when counter picked so heavily. (Which I was since I first picked Galio, which I was fine with)

The true answer is "it depends." And, it has been that way for a while. A tanky champ who uses MR for some AP plus channels damage away from the ADC is an idea that has been around since Galio first came out. Heck, it was one of the early ideas for Galio. Heck that ult is no worse than Malz's - a strong cc that also does damage - and he's currently in meta.
With mage/ranged supports being so common on botlane, I think it's more than viable atm. Will it still be ok in a year or two? Well that's harder to say...
JVlasterQuinn1 votesOnly thing that make galio less useful and viable is the fact that his E boost doesnt close the gap fast enought( mostly have to flash all the time for his combo) and his ult is interuptible fairly easy even if you got catched in(Udyr bear stance,Jax counterstrike,Nocturne E, Leona Q , etc). As long its a AA crowd control or ambient CC like Jax . Galio ult is worthless. Even that you can interupt from outside the range. Sad but only because of that, it make Galio not worth it. Amumu would worth more the try as support than Galio :/
