I'm terrible for some reason

Here me out please, it may be whiny but I will try to keep that out.

I can play normals in SR and have an easy win rate going that is not so dumpster bad it looks like a lose streak. (either trading wins or having win streaks) From there, I spam ARAM to practice team fighting (going to practice laning in a few normals as well, get the feel back). Eventually, I hit level 30 (yay). Did my ranked matches for it to pick where I went, ended up Silver 3. I won 4 and lost 6. My first thought was "wow, thats so high ^^" then my second thought was "wait, how high is it?" I found out the ranking was indicated by your level not your number, then I looked at the ranking order and found out I was pretty low.

Proceed with the funeral music and distraught attitude. Played my first ranked match, won. Felt great, played second and lost. Played another and lost. Another loss. Losing streak commences, I'm even more desperate until I get about 8 or 9 losses (I stopped counting). Yet, I go back to normals and not only am I carrying several times harder, but I'm WINNING. What am I doing wrong? (ignore my last game, I was eating+playing new champ+ playing one of my weakest spots) I don't know how to replay my matches so I can review and think of how to make better plays. I don't know why I was put in a ranking where I get roflstomped while my team continues to swear at me and say im a troll and that im feeding and etc. Is there any way to improve or should I keep losing and hope it puts me into a more realistic bracket? Its really demotivating to play matches and know when it starts you are going to lose. And to have to put your entire team on mute when it starts as well because you know how ugly the chat is going to get.

=/ I am at a loss and very tempted to uninstall because I can't proceed in ranked and all matches in ranked incur a highly toxic team because I don't want to make them all dodge queue when they realize I suck. At all. I don't even have people to queue with anymore because they either aren't on or tell me they don't want to lose LP. Very bad environment. If I want to see how I'm doing, I play ranked. Then I lose. Then I spam ARAM or Team Builder until I get enough confidence to go weather the storm once more. Then I lose. And it cycles.

First, don't uninstall, everyone hits plateaus in play and feels shitty, I'm about where you are too and I've had to climb out of bronze, so it could be worse.

Second, This is kinda no duh advice, but when you die, look at why you died and what led to that point, its easy to just shrug off a death as "worth" or a teammates fault. Just look objectively for how you, the individual, could've better played a fight.

Third, Specialize. Even though you're not a high elo try to find a lane or role you feel most comfortable and stick to it, I didn't look at champ history or scores, its just general advice.

Fourth, unless you're support ALWAYS work on farm. Cs wins game in lower elo. Items = power.

Fifth, have fun! Just try enjoy yourself while getting better, measure success on your performance and set goals, long and short term. Play to get better, not to win.

As a slight add on to this:

If you feel as if ranked is just too stressful, try a different approach at looking at it. Find something in there that makes it worthwhile to you (( Maybe you like the borders, the ranking, the skins, the challenge )) and keep that in your head. For example, when I started playing ranked (( Silver 4 and MAN am I awful. )) I kept the attitude that it's just like normals but with PERKS. I get to play competitively and get stuff out of it? That sounded amazing. Just find something you like about ranked and make that your reason for playing, it'll soon become second nature, I bet, and you'll slowly get even better than you would in normals due to the ranking system. :)

The level of play in Ranked is waaaaaaay higher than Normal matches in general, especially compared to Blind Pick. It's likely that you got a bit lucky in your placement matches and are above where you really should be right now in Ranked. Which might suck until you drop a bit and get some more appropriate opponents.

Silver 3 is actually slightly above median, maybe 60th percentile or so. It's trendy for people to throw around the "everything below Diamond is terrible" attitude these days, but you have to remember that Ranked is a small subset of the total players, and being "average" in Ranked is actually pretty strong relative to the entire playerbase.

Edit:

got my match history working again, so I looked at your Ranked games.

Your CS is very low, especially as an ADC. <100 CS at 20 minutes is... not good. Strong players can get close to 100 per 10 minutes. Go into custom matches and practice last-hitting.

You're dying a lot in relatively short games. 6-8 deaths in 25ish minutes means spending a lot of time dead and giving your lane opponent a lot of free farm. This is also contributing to the bad CS, I'm sure. Of almost 15 Ranked matches there are only two where you died less than five times. Not coincidentally, you won both those games! Especially as ADC, you want to not take stupid risks and farm like crazy so you can shred people in the mid-to-late game. As someone like Kat an aggressive all-in early might win your lane and let you start roaming, but it's still risky.

Silver 3 is probably too high for you. The 10 match league decider system is rarely correct. Don't be so down, just keep in mind that you are probably playing with people way better than yourself so every win is a big plus.

That god damn 10 match rank placer put me in Bronze 4 before and it took 3 days for me to get to Silver.

Silver 3 is very good given you only have 57 games won in Summoner's Rift, people with under 300 games won shouldn't even expect to get to silver. Anyway, hitting the plateau is part of the fun in league, when you break it you'll feel awesome. Be sure to play champions you enjoy because if you only play to win and you lose and stay at your plateau you'll feel very frustrated.

This plateau everyone speaks of, any tips on how to get past it? Also, champions I enjoy are either really weak or really glassy. Or just unwanted. Or I am bad with them anyway.

Oh, and how do I figure out counters? Bane of my existence when they tell me I'm countered, because I have no clue how to figure that out.

To be honest, this is a great thread and a great post, because it illustrates the problem with players being placed too high after placements from a different angle. Many people get frustrated playing with players who were placed too high and can't compete at the tier they were placed into, but the reality is that it is frustrating and unfair to the person who was placed too high as well.

My suspicion is that Riot knows that Bronze 4 and 5 are complete cesspools, so doesn't want to start everyone there, but starting players in silver based on a 10 game sample is just asking for players to be placed over their head.

In your situation, I would say to try to focus on a single role and get better at it. Right now you seem to be playing mostly ADC or mid. These are the two traditional carry roles and both will be expected to contribute heavily. Mid players are generally expected to farm mid lane well and roam to get other lanes going. ADC is expected to farm well and take over as the primary damage dealer in late game. Playing mid well requires good map awareness. Playing ADC well requires great mechanical skills and good positioning. These are all some of the more difficult skills to pick up in LoL.

If you want to continue to play at your current tier without getting harassed, I would recommend trying support. If you volunteer to support and do even a passable job, no one is going to insult your play as they are just happy they don't have to support. Additionally, playing support lets you focus on acquiring map and objective awareness, as you don't have to focus on last hitting. You can learn about when it's smart to harass, when to b, when to trade, when to push your lane, what should be warded, etc.

If none of this sounds fun to you, then pick another role that is fun to you. ADC is rarely in demand at lower ELO, so it's certainly a viable role to focus on, but you will probably want to work on your last hitting as someone mentioned. ADC can be very difficult to play, especially if you get a bad support for a match.

Thanks. Posted somewhere on here which champs I own and like so far. I was hoping someone could tell me what it looks like I'm aiming for in my champion pool- when I play, I love initiating and sweeping, I just don't know what champions I should be picking or if the ones I have are good.

AmazingGoat1 votes

As a follow up, regardless of what role(s) you choose to focus on, I would also recommend focusing on playing simple champions.

Looking at the champions you've played in ranked, Caitlyn is a great champion to learn ADC with because her long range allows her to farm safely in lane. Vayne is a horrible champion because she has low range and the power of her kit is all tied up in playmaking ability. Corki is a good champion to learn because he's safe and has solid harass. Ashe is probably not that great of a choice for you because many people are predisposed to dislike an Ashe ADC to begin with.

In mid, it seems like you are having good success with Orianna, but she is actually a very difficult champion to play. More accurately, she is an easy champion to misplay, as a ton of her power is tied up in her ult, which is easily missed. If you miss an ult in a team fight, your team will notice and have a negative reaction. Many other champions don't have this pressure. Katarina can be difficult to play extremely well, but is so strong right now that she is actually a very solid choice. Twisted Fate is very difficult to play and probably not an ideal choice.

It doesn't look like you've jungled, but if you do find yourself jungling or need to pick it up, you could give Warwick a try. He has a very simple kit and great sustain that lets him stay high health as he jungles. His ganks are very simple as you can simply flash ult into someone who is pushed up too far and you will usually get a kill if your laner follows up. He is great at ganking mid or top lane. He actually is very strong top as well, so if you learn him you could play him in either role if need be.

Support wise, you can never go wrong with Blitz or Leona, but a more passive support that plays even easier is Taric. He is pretty strong and has a simple kit. All you really need to decide at any given moment is whether to use your stun to go in if you think you have a chance to get a kill, or save it if you think there is a chance you might need it for disengage. He has a heal which lets you and your ADC stay in lane even if you are getting constantly harassed. He isn't an aggressive support that can win and snowball a lane, but he can keep any ADC safe as they farm and will rarely be the reason a lane is lost, as long as you ward.

My recommendation. If you lose two games in a row in ranked, take a short break from ranked. If you continue losing games you'll start feeling bad and go on tilt. A break gives you time to get over those losses and maybe think about what you could have done differently to possibly change the outcome of a game.

Disclaimer: This is a tip I learned while exploring the old forums, not from personal experience as haven't played a lot of ranked. Seems to help with normals though.
