think of it this way
irelias E is always supposed to stun you
however, riot made it so if shes beating you super hard, then it wont stun, to give a little "extra" room for counterplay
so irelias E doesnt "punish you for winning the trade"

irelias E instead "just gets a little weaker if irelia is winning too much"
view it like this: If irelia is beating you, she just straight up beats you. If she is losing, she stuns you and then beats you.
These all have on-demand CC, but yet, Irelia's E is the one people complain about. [zombie-brand-mindblown]
Nah, it punishes you for actually trying to interact with the champion
And I say you have the wrong view of Irelia E. It stuns 100% if she's lower health than you. Period. A good Irelia only uses her E on a target when she knows she'll stun.
This is just saying instead of the cup being half full it's half empty.
