Upvote If You Want A Support Champion Next

The last real support we got was Tahm Kench and since then we've gotten 2 junglers, 3 top laners (including camille), 2 mid mages, and a god tier adc, Riot wants to popularize the support role and even as a support main it's getting boring playing the same champions and it's making me lean more towards the mid lane and i'm sure others feel the same way

I just wish we got something to make people want to play support, or at the very least give us support mains a reason to stick around

I understand you want to play Smite AP Blitzcrank Support, however, your teammates do not want you to play Smite AP Blitzcrank Support.

good thing most of those mages work as supports, huh?

PureSilvrr42 votes

Ivern was supposed to be a support, but its considered a troll pick so yeah more supports

Emojay74 votes

Hes a supportive jungler. He relies heavily on teammates, and doesn't focus on kills.

PureSilvrr8 votes

But I'm talking about playing ivern support, which ive been called a troll every time ive tried it

RavenMagus50 votes

He was never supposed to be a support lane support - he was created with "jungle support" directly in mind.

Problem is if you play him as a full botlane support he completely loses his passive.

FantasySniper16 votes

Unless you pull off some counter-jungle shenanigans, Ivern is worthless as a support compared to Janna and Braum.

Leo10249 votes

that's why they gave him a junglers passive?

he's a supportive jungler like Zac or Elise with the cc to set you up with the kill

Death by Glamour40 votes

Elise isn't a supportive jungler

Think more of nautilus zac and nunu

Raven Redeemed18 votes

I could really go for a new ranged support. League just doesn't have many supports in general.

Handy Sandy 9 votes

Yea need a lot more high skillcap supports. Tired of only seeing Janna Nami that fit that.

Leo10242 votes

I want someone who's super unique kinda like when Bard was released, I just want to feel like i'm trying as hard as everyone else on the team and not just using my chain of cc super easily, it's not fun and support needs a higher skill cap overall

Death by Glamour6 votes

The only thing keeping bard in the game was his massive buffs to his damage.

Leo10246 votes

And he still barely does damage but his utility is among the highest in the game, it takes a high skill cap to make him work well and it makes him fun but we need more supports that are so

supports almost always feel like they're doing the least in the game regardless the champion

Spaceman5pff7 votes

Thresh Karma Morgana would beg to differ.

Also, if you can't appreciate your impact on the game if it doesn't involve deleting chunks of HP bars, you might be into the wrong genre.

JS.

Leo10242 votes

Level 6 Thresh, i sometimes feel like i'm doing stuff but I wish we had it on more champs

Morgana is boring af, only feel excited if you give a shield at the perfect moment, other than that she doesn't feel too fun imo

Never played Karma but she's one of those who I could imagine being super fun, she has a great impact on the team with the speed, shields, damage, and her root, i like karma

If anything, Lulu feels the most rewarding when playing support consistently

Trias0001 votes

Morgana is boring, but Karma who only has 3 abilities and is basically a poke bot is fun to you? I don't follow your logic. I mean, I understand that Morgana might be boring to you, but Karma does more or less the same as her.

Abyssphere5 votes

Karma's boring in her own ways but I feel a lot more active on her than I do on Morg. She has more to do, Morg is just QW, E on person most likely to be hit with crowd control and then aimlessly walk around for a few seconds. Karma's got less downtime.

Sona has a fairly unknown high skillcap

Leo10245 votes

I used to main Sona and I have to disagree, the hardest part is using your passive every third ability which isn't even that hard, she has the skill floor of soraka imo

Spaceman5pff12 votes

Do you actually not understand the difference between a Skill Cap and a Skill Floor, or are you just trolling?

Leo10245 votes

There's nothing left to learn other than auto for your passive, i fail to see how skill capping her is hard, i myself have done it, and if you're referring to what i said about soraka that was a typo :p

Otacustes14 votes

Maining Sona at a Bronze level and maining Sona at a Diamond or higher level are two completely different things. Her skill floor is really, really low (you can spam all your abilities and have a pretty decent impact on fights), but her skill ceiling is pretty high once you master positioning, timing and choosing your power chords correctly, etc.

Not to mention her ult is one of the highest impact ults out of any support, being really difficult to land on multiple people if your opponents know what they're doing. She may be an easy support to pick up and play, but that doesn't mean she's an easy support to master.

Romtheguy4 votes

^ This. Nice job writing this!

Do people not realize that the different power chords have nice big differences worth preparing your spells for? They're too good to simply go without mentioning them! Skill cap goes beyond her mechanics and towards positioning and saving abilities for the right time!

Otacustes4 votes

Thanks! I've been a Sona main for a pretty decent amount of time now, and while I don't play against high mmr players very often, it's kinda sad to see people say she has a low skill ceiling.

I'm usually lazy and just spam the Q power chord (especially since I build balls-to-the-wall AP pretty often), but I've been trying to get better at actually using them properly. The E chord is sooo good for securing kills on slippery champions or locking them down ever harder.

HazyCloud75 votes

Add soraka and sona to that list

Handy Sandy 10 votes

Soraka has a point and click heal and some wide cc...It's not that hard to mess up assassins, especially since they have longer burst windows. Sona has only 1 skillshot and it's a wide almost instant ulti. Those are some of the easiest supports, since they aren't at all mechanically challenging.

Quacker232 votes

That is not what makes Sona difficult.

You are right, mechanically she is among the easiest supports since her only skillshot is crescendo (which gets harder to hit as your opponents being to anticipate it in higher ranks of play). In exchange? She is arguably the least forgiving support. Sona has just about nothing to get caught out of a bad situation between little mobility, no hard CC til 6, and being the squishiest support. If she gets caught in a gank, she is dead if she doesn't have flash unless you misplay hard. Other supports like Thresh, Janna, and Nami have a lot more options if they get caught on the wrong foot. Additionally, Sona is one of the harder supports to position with. To be a threat, you need to be inside that Q range constantly and you need to go up front if you want to land a good crescendo without flash. Plus, she benefits her teammates (even the front line) by standing near them... moreso than most other supports. She can't stand 20 ft away from the fight like Janna, Soraka or Nami ot be effective. Yet she doesn't have the CC or resilience to front line like Alistar or Leona.

And it seems to me that it is very difficult to manage her mana. I have never played her myself but it is so easy to counter her being a Taric main myself. I just sit back and wait for her to run out of mana and then all in for a win every single time.

Fondling Gems6 votes

I read Taric main. Have a friend request.

Kubox8 votes

Ehh, it seems that way but it's not really that bad.

The reason you'll see her OOM a lot of time is simply because she can afford to be so. Unlike champions like Nami who need their full kit to function, Sona only needs her Q and W in lane. Hence why you'll often see her OOM early game : she can afford to. Keeping enough mana for a clutch W is all she really cares about. And unlike Lulu, who can potentially use all 3 of her spells only to poke, Sona really only has Q to cast.

Late-game she starts using her whole kit and then you really feel that mana problem, but at that point you have the option to itemize for it, so it's less of a Sona issue and more of a player one.

TurquoiseYoshi8 votes

Support and then marksman. We've been severely lacking in those departments lately, especially since Jhin isn't really your normal marksman.

YOvayne4 votes

Don't see the point in adding supports when people are still going to queue dodge if they have to support

Leo102420 votes

Support will always be the least desired role in league of legends, but it'd be nice for us support mains to have a reason to keep playing it
