SotO was healthier than Mejais
SotO actually had risk associated with it, you don't have brainless waveclear pokefests with the AD champions that built SOTO.
No. SOTO fanboys need to realise that it's possible for things to be too risky in this game and excessive risk is almost always unhealthy - most assassins that have been reworked in the past have been given reworks because they were too risky and as a result the reward was ridiculous when the risk paid off. SOTO was "Feed or 1v5 carry - the item" and that's not a thing Riot is supporting anymore.
SOTO was a weaker item than Mejai's because it was so much riskier to stack but that did the exact opposite of making it healthier because it meant that you just never considered the item unless you were a 20/0 Rengar/Zed/Talon/Kha. And if you bought the item as a massively fed AD assassin then you spent the entire game one-shotting people in half a second and it was a complete nightmare for the enemy team. If you weren't fed enough to do that then you were consistently losing stacks by dying as you went in and it was a huge waste of gold.
Mejai's can be stacked with reasonably safety by a couple of champions and none of the champions who do stack it consistently turn into one-shotting 1v5 beasts with it. It's more usable and yet less impactful when used. Mejai's is an item that can actually be used by people without it completely destroying the game and because of that you can actually balance it around the level of impact that it's allowed to have on people like Lux and various AP supports. That was never true of SOTO.
tl;dr Mejai's is an item that is actually possible to use on certain champions in certain circumstances. SOTO wasn't viable on a single champion and could never be allowed to be viable on anyone. Unless you're someone who genuinely believes "Talon is the healthiest assassin!", it should be obvious which is the better designed item.
