Mind blown: Towers are not defense, they are offense

Feel free to fact check me.

Defense is designed to empower. A small army can defend against a large army through the use of defense.

Towers in league of legends do not empower. Towers are their own separated entity. Towers are, in practice, an extra attacker. **Because attacking, is all a tower does in league of legends. **

Want more?

League has the behavior of "tower dives". It involves sending overwhelming numbers to attack. If towers were defensive, this would be the absolute worst way to attack. Instead, it is the absolute best. Because towers provide no defensive advantage at all.

I'm convinced. How do I turn this knowledge into wisdom?

When getting tower dove, do not expect the tower to do all the damage. Tower counts as one person. Generally speaking, I suggest crowd control on their damage dealers and focus fire on towers target. In theory, maximizes your survival time while at the same time reduces their "tanks" survival time.

If you want to run away, just realize that the tower isn't actually helping you. Straight lines and preemptive movements tend to be your best tools for survival. Which is why I suggest if you are "caught" in a tower dive, going down with a fight is the better option.

Good point. Counter Argument:

Towers were always a defense because they "came to your aid" when you hid under them. They were a physical obstacle between you and your enemy that also attacked them. Masteries also used to give you extra resistances under a tower, and for those champions with CC and little damage, they were protection from dives whose extra damage often resulted in kills. This gave them a psychological defensive against their opponents.

Lastly running PAST your tower meant people couldn't really follow without getting hit by several tower shots and probably dying. Even now tower-diving is dangerous in a long chase. This means they are as effective as a wall if you can outrun your opponent or have enough of a head start.

How do they aid you? By ATTACKING.

They were a physical obstacle between you and your enemy that also attacked them.

No, they aren't. That would be called a funnel, choke point, or barricade, etc. Towers are stationary areas of focus fire. AKA a trap or bomb, etc.

Masteries also used to give you extra resistances under a tower

Good for masteries. Tower didn't do anything in that scenario. Remove the mastery. Tower behaves the same way,

Lastly running PAST your tower.......

This means they are as effective as a wall

Not even close. Like Jesus a wall has a sole purpose of preventing things PAST it.

the better solution would be to tweak the damage and agro for towers

towers right now do mainly attack damage. so if you build a ton of armor, you can stay under tower for longer without worrying it will kill you (having extra health helps as well)

tower agro is also a tad weird as it doesn't always target the person who last did damage to you, instead if focuses on the first person that did damage to you.

solutions - 1) Switch Tower damage from current AD to True Damage (thus effectively ignoring any defenses). 2) Towers will prioritize enemy champions who recently damaged a friendly champion. in their range.

You might want to go test how things actually work. What you describe is mostly fantasy.

the agro switch mainly, but not switch the tower damage from AD to True damage.

If you've seen a Maplhite running full armor he can probably take down a tower near fully health to dead and walk away very much alive

Then the meta becomes assassin exclusive and people are just one shotting each other under towers.

This is false. You're not going to convince anyone that a 4v2 under turret is more advantageous than a 4v2 in the middle of a lane.

I sort of understand the notion you are trying to put out. But the problem with calling your towers as "offense" in the grand scheme of League of Legends is that outside of Pyke, Blitz, Thresh, Azir, etc., you cannot take control of your turrets to directly make progress to eliminating the enemy Nexus. The firepower they offer is only used when the enemy approaches you, not the other way around. Thus, they are from that standpoint more accurately described as defense.

In other words, my interpretation of what you are saying is that running to the turret won't directly mitigate damage from enemy. You are right; you need to still fend off the aggressors. The turret isn't going to just do all the work for you by default. But calling the turret an "offense" tool is a little bizarre.

As another example, take the fountain laser. Would you consider it a defensive tool or an offensive tool? A tower is essentially just a much weaker, vulnerable version of the fountain laser.

Edit: To basically summarize, in a situation where you are being dove under your turret, yes the turret is technically providing 'offense' (read: damage). But in the context of the actual game of League of Legends itself, the turrets are providing defense to protect the player from enemies. If such were not the case, then enemies would just walk up and poke you under your own turret without fear.

You misunderstood. I was talking about strategies for tower diving. You certainly want a numbers advantage while tower diving.

But calling the turret an "offense" tool is a little bizarre.

It is an ineffective offense. Which tends to be a bit bizarre by nature.
