Can someone please explain the elo system?

I've been high silver/gold each season and went 7 wins 3 losses in my placements and landed bronze 1. I understand its supposed to drop you a bit but not almost 4 tiers lower. I don't get this kind of treatment in overwatch where I place the same skill rating each season because of skill. This game is getting less and less enjoyable because after 8 seasons the Elo system remains imbalanced.

PLacements are based off you last season MMR, not your rank. Looks like last season you ended Silver 3 with a very low winrate so your MMR was probably much lower than silver 3. Then you get dropped a bit after placements

Your MMR is going to be insanely high then and should be relatively easy for you to climb with a few wins

you generally get placed exactly one full division lower than the previous season. If you ended silver 3, Bronze 3 is where you would be placed. Be happy you got bronze 1

Basically Riot wants to make sure you struggle as much as possible in your climb so it takes you a long time to climb just a little so you feel like you can go up so you will keep playing.

Its called game Theory where they are making you pull a leaver even if you dont want to pull the leaver anymore.
