When you buy a ward

Mundo··37 votes·4,613 views

What if the ward gets placed in the slot of your 'Warding Totem Trinket" and it stacks up to 3.

At the same time what if you can purchase small lenses that will be placed in Lense slot so you can have 2 up.

Edit#1: Some people are thinking that this automatically grants you free wards. It does not. You have to pay 75 gold and the wards just get put on the slot.

Edit#2: Thinking this through. Something that may be hard to balance is that Wards last 3 mins and Trinkets last shorter earlier on.

What can be done. -Warding Totems change to have 6 minute cooldown but give 3 minute wards. At level 9 it gets a 4 minute 30 second cooldown and when purchasing the final upgrade it gives it a 3 minute cooldown with 3 minute wards.

Another problem is when you upgrade it to the Vision Totem while still having Ward charges in it. -I feel what can be done is your wards will be thrown into your inventory when upgrading to a Vision Totem. It will hold Vision Ward charges so you can stack on Pink Wards. If you have normal wards stacked on the Trinket and no inventory slots then you can't purchase the Vision Totem... OR maybe you can upgrade but it wont start place Piinks till all the normal Wards are used up.

Best idea to solve all these problems.. when you upgrade any Trinket to the final form, it will gain the capability of holding wards. After looking all this over I think that would be the best idea and will make more people upgrade the Trinket late game over buying elixers

Good idea, late game, when you start building your 6th item, there is no longer room for wards. and trinket wards are rather limited.

The abbility to put some gold into placing extra wards on the trinket slot (as opposed to the no cost slow recharging trinket) would be really usefull.

seems like a solid idea- prevents the fall off of late game warding, helps deal with item slots earlier in the game too.

There's probably a reason not to, but it doesn't seem like that bad of an idea on paper.

this idea seems pretty good, it takes a load off of support who wards(even though they can only put 3 down at a time) and it gives literally NO reason for your other teammates to ward

Yea I feel late game I have full build and am super fed. I would like to help my support out instead of hearing my team blaming him for no wards on Baron.

It also frees support up to buy an actual item instead of Sightstone.

sounds great

remove warding totem and keep that as special place for stealth wards or lense. (lense can only be 1 limit, but stealth can go to 3) then if u want more wards u can either buy sightstone or pink ward. now everyone wards !

That can be possibility but people seem to have gotten used to Trinkets.

the new spot for stealth wards is their warding totem. theyll get used to it.

a free 60 second ward every minute or a 3 minute ward for 75g. i dont think anyone will complain.

I kinda thought about an idea like this but I think it would be best just to have a consumable tab in general because unless you have a trinket or an item with wards you cant really ward after your full built and you rely on your support or other with ward trinkets to ward

Last suggestion nailed it. Big ups from me, hope riot notices.

Riot can touch this if they want. :)

It's a good idea but it can easyer:

  1. On level 18 the trinkets transform into a new item
  2. You can now buy charges (max 3) for the level 18 trinket.
  3. Using a charge allows u to use the active the trinket.

So basicly you can keep using the trinket without having to worry about the cooldown while still relying on the cooldown if you have no charges left.

Honestly you all giving great ideas I hope Riot reads the comments and topic and gets some ideas. It can work out. :)

Wards would then become even more integral part of the game. It would literally force all players to input significant gold into warding and ward control. Im all for it..

Hell, what if they got rid of green trinket and replaced it with Sightstone? Maybe as the level 9 upgrade, since I don't usually have a Sightstone until around then anyway.

u usually dont have a sightstone by lvl 9? wow thats so bad lol.

i normally have sightstone by lvl 5.

Was a rough guess, maybe closer to 6 or 7. I main Braum so I rush item 3401 before getting item 2049.

yeah me too either 5 or 6. depending on my first back.

i almost ALWAYS have money for a sightstone(then replace warding totem with lense) on my first back. and ill always get sightstone as first choice on first back even if i cant afford boots or anything else after.

because the sooner u ward, the sooner u stop enemies successfully ganking u.

but i guess buying upgrades then green wards is the same thing , but i rather use my money on sightstone then waste it on green wards.

I usually pick up a sightstone around levels 3-4 when I back and then rush a randuin's, it really throws off the enemy bot laners when you are deceptively more tankier than either of them and they deal next to no damage. But I sacrifice mobility from tier 1 boots for about 500 health and 70 armor, I think it's worth the trade.

logged in to say this was a retarded idea. the new vision system made by riot has a lot of reasoning behind it and this would fuk it up real good.

I'm not sure how it would unbalance it? It would be a great idea, mostly if some supports don't want to build a sightstone, so they can build another important item for themselves. Otherwise, For the lenses it might be not the best idea, since the upgraded lenses have a 1 min cooldown what makes it quite often aviable.

As well, it would be great if the carries would actually use their trinkets more.. like I always have to point out my adc to ward the bush, since the most adcs don't ward bushes so they can prevent ganks, but use it to ward the side bush to see what the enemy support does..

I don't understand how it would screw it up. This whole idea means you still have to pay 75 gold for the ward. The only thing this might screw up is having 90 minute games because this would mean people can start helping the support out once full build, that causes games to end faster.

I would love to be able to buy lenses and shit. If we could also use eyes/orbs(blue trinket) after our 3 wards we'd actually have a purpose for them. This would be a decent vision rework tho IMO the cap should be 2 just so that vision snowballing doesn't go out of control.

Love this idea. Wards take up too much space (or have no space to put). Need that separate warding slot

It'd be nice if they implement something like this

  1. The problem (that I see) is that trinket are supposed to be free and on cooldown and shorter duration.
  2. purchased wards last longer and can be spammed back to back.
  3. utting them in the same slot would make it difficult to differentiate them and would force the removal of one or the other. (or alteration of both)
  4. not saying either way would be good or bad just saying that's what would have to change and it's quite a bit, I'm sure riot has their reasons and have probably thought of this and if it works with the image they are trying to go for I'm sure they're trying to find ways of balancing it.

Read what I wrote in bold. Basically the final suggestion was to keep trinkets as is and implement this on the final upgrade on Trinkets. So when you are full build and upgrade the Trinket you can farther add more wards by purchasing them for 75 gold.

I actually don't mind the wards, but could they make sweeping lens a consumable item instead of a trinket? The cooldown is horrible when more wards are put out more often than a single use of a lens to get one ward.

Or make a item out of it where you can detect wards that are close by that grants like a bit health, mana, and cooldown reduction that could make support or jungler role more better.

Though I still prefer the current style for warding. Just not the lens to get rid of wards.

PigCheese1 votes

I think they should make ruby sightstone give the ability to a person to increase the max amount of wards you can place. So that the max amount goes from 3 green wards placed at once to 4 or 5.

TenSlashTen1 votes

yeah I'd like to be able to buy wards when Im 6 items. That would be nice.

But we don't apply logic here.

helligdage1 votes

is this just stealth wards? what about pinks? would feel kinda weird that greens get the special treatment but pinks don't. i feel like you can't change something about one of em without changing something about the other.

but i'm down for the idea. as support main its hard to juggle greens, a pink, hp + mp pots and SS, + whatever item you started with. would definitely free up some space.

I am Kugi1 votes

I think trinket is something that shouldn't be providing too much wards, else what would you do with sweepers?

Moonshade1 votes

I also have an idea towards late game warding, with it being that the trinket, upon the final upgrade starts to build wards on an ammo system, so say every 120 seconds it gets another ward that lasts 180 seconds, holding a max of 3, that way one can gradually ward or burst ward (run around and quickly drop all wards in a smallish area before a team fight ie Baron Pit). The other idea I have with regards to vision trinkets is with the final upgrade they grant an extra 'ward slot' in the inventory, something so that after everyone is done their builds they can buy and store up to 2 greens or 1 pink in the slot. That way everyone can get additional wards distributed through the map even if they are done their build. I lost a ranked game awhile back because it was really late game and most of us had full build so our vision was lacking (since we could only place 4*1+4=8 wards maximum -1 for every none support with a sweeper), and the enemy team went and cleared what wards we had in Baron pit to bait us into an ambush which won them the game since we couldn't out take their AP Cho, Riven & Twitch's combined AoE damage in that small a space (they ambushed us in the jungle just before Baron Pit). If we had extra vision on that area the chances of that happening would have been a lot less likely. Plus late game is when you need the extra vision because people are roaming much more

I agree with this. The trinket is able to hold wards, meaning you still have to pay the full 75 gold, unless perhaps you have the yellow trinket in which the first ward is free.

I hate the fact that you cant buy wards once you are full build, unless you forgo the sweeper and keep your yellow trinket. Being "full build" brings with it a sense of accomplishment, and makes you think that "This is as strong as I can possibly be this game." This creates a psychological trick in players I think, because at that point where you feel the strongest, you are unable to buy wards. They are irrelevant to you, you wouldn't dream of selling your randuins just so you could place wards down!

I think this thought carries over to the early game and people start to devalue wards in general.
