It's not Garen, It's the Items So Stop Crying ( Down votes are coming :)

I used to main Garen pre-rework.

The point of his rework was to re-enforce his role as a carry tank mid-late game and allow him to finally stick to a target and be rewarded for it.

  1. He no longer has built in tenacity, 2.He has a reduced silence
  2. Lower Damage in laning phase. The only thing that really changed for the better was his damage with his E mid - late game and the Villain mechanic which is only actually useful after laning phase usually.

The actual reason he is currently so powerful is simply because he synergizes extremely well with the Juggernaut items maybe actually the best out of all the Juggernauts.

item 3053 - Damage, Health and %Health Shield are the bread and butter of Garen's kit. item 3071 - Armour Pen, Health and Damage item 3742 - Movement Speed, Health, Armour and a Built in Slow to top it off what more could Garen want. item 3083 - Toooonnnsss of Health and a built in mini Garen passive item 3748 - Actually not that good because Garen has his E for wave clear and unlike the item 3074 it can't be activated mid spin. So don't suggest picking it up.

As you can see these items give him all he needs, armour pen, damage, lots of health, and movement speed. I tried playing Garen without building any of the new items and he is basically just a watered down version of his old self. Then I tried with the new items and he was doing his job perfectly, getting to targets, soaking up damage and dealing a good amount of damage if they stayed in his E. So it's not that he's broken/op it's simply that the new items make him do his job extremely well. I do not personally think he is broken, because overall Olaf with the new items is actually broken.

As a Garen main, Garen is definitely too strong. Is he as broken as a lot of people say? No. But he does need to be knocked down a peg or two. I think that the upcoming change to his ult's passive (you no longer will gain villain status by killing Garen) will help, as it will make is possible to get a lead on him.

Sure he might need a minor nerf(very minor) but I think it will take some time for people to realize he's actually not that strong. Also I'm sure that soon enough the items will be toned down aswell and now that will be a nerf to Garen aswell.

warmorgs is pretty shit on garen. or anyone for that matter. youre just giving a bork carry a larger health pool to lifesteal off.

% damage means they need about the same amount of hits to take you down, while dealing more absolute damage per hit. since borks passive applies lifesteal, warmorgs has become a noob trap.

you can really only stack health if youre sure that none or at least not more than 1 opponent are going to buy bork. otherwise its outright suicide.

Garen- 53-4% winrate with an incredibly high pick rate. Olaf- 47% win rate with a pick rate half of that at best.

But no, Olaf's the one that's actually broken.

loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool

Winrate doesn't show how powerful a champion is, winrate shows how a certain elo of people handle using a certain champion. Olaf is actually quite a bit stronger than Garen in nearly every way but no one would know that since he is bearly picked. I'd suggest actually educating yourself and stop acting like winrate defines a champion.

Yeah but winrate also defines how many games people play a champion before beating their peers with that said champion. Right now, you barely have to know Garen's kit to beat people that main other top lane champions. If that's not overpowered then I don't know what is. There's a reason that Garen is pick or ban at the moment.

That's why he's so "op" in the lower elos because he's easy to play and no one has any sort of idea how to play against him

53% winrate in Plat+ says you're wrong.

Also, an idiot.

Haha.

I don't actually quite know how best to label this. I suppose I'll settle for calling you wilfully ignorant and let the public decide the rest.

I actually play Olaf. Admittedly not as much as when he was actually fun to use (pre-Olafing) but he's still my third-most played character.

How many times have you extensively played either champion?
