Should I start Ranked?

So, I've been thinking about starting ranked. I've been waiting for a bit once I reached level 30 to get a bit better. I have level 6 support (sona), level 5 talon (mid or top, sometimes even bot idk...), and a level 5 lux (don't play her a lot anymore). I have amumu at level 3 and I'm getting him to level 4 so I can be decent at jungling too. I have a LOT of toplaners at level 2, (I think one or two at level 3) and I think that toplane is my fav lane. I'm going to buy nocturne so I can have a carry jungler too (I play tanky amumu). I'm thinking about buying Fiora but I'm not sure yet. So, am I good enough to start ranked or should I practice a bit more?

Personally I think ranked is just more fun than normals, you might not do too well if you're fairly new but that's just the nature of the game. I'd go for it

If you're going to play ranked, ideally you should pick 2 top tier heros in 2 roles or play 1 or 2 heros in a role only. Perfection on one hero is key to winning most games.

Your best bet is to spam a couple heros and get great at 2 roles.

The moment you start to play Ranked your soul gets completely absorbed by the game and there is no going back anymore.

Been playing for 2 years now and if you ask me, I suggest you play without ranked for a year, watch LCS and make sure you have a profound role and at-least 2 or 3 main champions in each of them. Unlike you I didn't ask any questions and jumped into ranked, I spent the last year and a half in bronze until I learnt most things about mind set and what not. Things only playing for a year can teach. But now my mmr is so bad it is tough to climb since I have to carry every single game.

I didnt start getting better until after I did ranked. Sure you run into good opponents every now and then in normals, but lets be real, the matchmaking system for normals is aweful. Im G3 right now and when i play normals im consistently playing with people that are silver or not ranked at all. At least in ranked gameplay you get to play against people that is close to your skill level....most of the time..

Normall mmr =/ ranked mmr

Basically normal and rankeds have two different mmr, thats why you see rekkles playing normals against silvers.

Just go for it. Match-making is better, everyone plays more seriously on average, and that's the best way to improve yourself. Don't listen to all the nay-sayers, and if you end up in Bronze, don't worry, it's not a problem or a reason to be ashamed, and you'll just climb up when you'll get more experience.

But regarding the rest of what you say: keep in mind it's not the number of champs you know that's important, it's your deep mastery with your best 2 or 3 champs. I reached Gold5 playing 2 champs only. Two is a bit extreme, but you should focus on 2 or 3 champs per role, in 2 or 3 roles, max.

It all kind of depends. If you moba experience with other games and like playing competitively then ranked is probably for you. If you just enjoy playing the game then I would stick to normal.

I played the game starting since season one and never touched ranked until mid season 2 (season 1 was really long). I was completely flabbergasted by ranked even after having a few hundred normal wins. Games became more competitive, with meta more closely followed and people more concerned with winning in ranked. There is also more trolls but for the first time winning or losing actually meant something. This helped me improve and take the game more seriously.

Without SQ, it's kind of pointless for a competitive mode but I guess at least it's better matchmaking than normals.

Hmm I'd recommend waiting and keep practicing for a while! There's a HUGE gap on skill there (and feels even bigger because hey, why not have your placements with Silver elo players, makes a lot of sense right? More info in this post). Maybe even try one game so you know the feeling, because is way different.

1000 wins before you ranked.

It usually takes most players about 2000 total matches to be around average skill level, or the entry point for new to ranked accounts in silver 4, baseline 1200 MMR. Assuming you win about 50% of your normal matches its best to try for 1000 wins before venturing into ranked. That way you will probably be about average level and won't get massively stomped and wind up in bronze. This is a game that takes a lot of experience to play well. If this is your first season, and this is your first account, do NOT expect to wind up better than silver something. It takes most players more than 18 months of play time to become a slightly better than average player, or about low gold level.

Take the time to get your experience up. Get your 1000 wins, ask for a Rioter to join you after the 999th. They are fun to play with.

Edit: Having looked at your account and seen your individual skill metrics I would HIGHLY recommend you spend some time improving your skill set before trying any ranked at all. Everything from your builds, to runes and masteries, to your farm rates, and average deaths per game is very sub par. Spend some time watching some streams. Practice on last hitting so you can manage to acquire more than just a mere 25% of the farm available to you. Work on better decision making so you die less frequently. Read some guides and look at some pro builds so you understand where your runes, masteries, and in game item builds are less than ideal. I know it seems like a daunting task, but you will appreciate all the hard work you put in later down the line.

Lolwut?

I just got my 1000th win, and I already play Ranked for 2 seasons... I was Silver4 after 6 months in Ranked, and I'm currently Gold4. And I don't even consider myself talented... Your estimations are vastly overblown...

Not at all, that's for average players. Think about how many RANKED games you had to play just to become an AVERAGE skill level player. The learning curve is steeper in ranked so you have to learn faster. Those numbers are pretty accurate and have been for almost 5 years. I took them from a post that is that old and archived on the old forums. I've found them to be quite true indeed.

I started playing last season and I regret playing ranked when I did because in hindsight I feel like it was too soon. I had about 500 wins at the time and honestly thought I could do well since I had a decent champ pool with champs I felt I really excelled at. I realize now that even though my micro play and mechanics were not too bad, my macro play and overall decision making were awful. I did place in Silver after placements and climbed for a bit... but then I went on a massive losing streak and got stuck in Bronze and ranked started feeling stressful since I kept falling in ranked and tilting came more easily.

Soft reset ended up putting me in Bronze 5 this season but I've watched streams, LCS, and gotten over 1000 wins since starting this season and when I played rank this time around I could really see the improvement and now I've climbed to Silver 1. I don't necessarily believe you should have to wait until 1000 wins or have to watch streams or LCS like I did, but make sure that you play norms in draft pick to get the feel for ranked before you play it (I used to play a lot of Team Pick and Blind pick). Make sure you're comfortable playing from behind or ahead. Being able to recognize that is half the battle in my opinion.

Ok, I think I'll wait a little while cause most people are telling me to lmfao

Ypu should get Mastery 5+ on some toplaners that you like if you want to play Ranked imo. You really have to learn to "embrace your lane", because really, each lane is played differently.

Don't start ranked play until you feel ready to accept that you need to improve every aspect of your playstyle and that everything you think you do right, is wrong. Be ready to look at yourself and learn from your mistakes. Be aware that ranked is harder than norms, because people try harder regardless of their elo, and people get aggressive much faster.

Also, stick to a main role, and get a secondary you are decent at. Since DynQ got in, ranked got harder in this aspect because you have more chances than not to play against dedicated mains of a specific position.

I mained jungle for most of the season with ADC off role, I lost plat trying to convert to Top main and jungle off. Took me a while to reach plat again because I wasn't nearly as good as top laner as I am in the jg.
