is riven mid still viable?
i want to play her mid since i feel like you can't impact alot in toplane as you would do in mid where you are more free to roam either top or bot and snowball harder

She can mid, however she will likely be poked out of lane and/or cc'ed whenever she wants to trade. Being melee in midlane is normally a bad thing, unless you are Zed. Basically, if you are going to commit, you HAVE to commit or they will win the war of attrition.
Ps. jungle riven is decent and is pretty fun once you get rolling :D

Short answer: Yes.
Long answer? VERY YES.
You do have to be a teensy bit more skilled than the average Riven though due to Mid tending to have either a lot of range or a lot of CC.
She can mid.
But she is much more of a counterpick mid than just a mid pick in general.
I still have fun with her mid, and actually find more success with her there than top.
Your damage is higher against midlaners, due to the fact that they are usually squishy and easily brusted post 6.
It isn't a top pick, but neither a bad one. It's "ok".
She has a lot of hard match ups there, some unwinnable, but if you get the right match up she can still do it.
