is rakan even good?

IDK I'm honestly asking with the intent of learning.

all the games I have with him are extra hard. his ult sometimes carries fights sure, and one game I saw a rakan that left lane and got 25 assists by end of game. so idk what it is that isn't working. is it just a bad pairing with ashe? or is there something about how he lanes that I don't get?

All that happens is he dashes on the enemy AD and they either dodge that, or dash out of it, or that he engages while I'm positioned weak to avoid fights in that moment, the flow of lane I mean, and so I try to help but because his knockup is used the enemy counter-engages and outdamages us because rakan has no damage. he can't even poke the enemies often enough to sustain the lane. Overall his kit just feels useless outside of his overpowered ult.

If you don't want ppl to dodge your knock-up, you gotta ult before using your W becuase the enmies will be charmed so the can't flash out of it. Rakan is the strongest together with Xayah because he can easily engage fights and jump back to her because his E has a greater range to Xayah.

If you wanna have more dmg on rakan, he should build the Spellthiefs line instead of the coin line

I don't get this part, ulting so you won't miss your W. Last time I recall you should always try to chain cc(Speaking about tank rakan) , so wouldn't that be like the opposite of what you're supposed to do. Sure it would make your W hit, but if you "waste" your cc like that and you're building tank, imo that would make you useless.

Watch some Rakan proffessionals if you don't believe me. Ofcourse chaining CC is the best way but sometimes the best way is not necessarily the very best

well all I know is I have like 80 games with ap rakan and I can tell you that's strong also to stop rakan from missing his w he needs to ult first and since charms are different from other forms of cc it stops most dashes and forces them to either get knocked up or use a blink like ezreals e or flash the downside to this is you lose out on cc since part of the charm is cut away by his knockup

I think he has dropped a little.

He can't proc Relic Shield. Coin is different now. I prefer tank Rakan otherwise you get squished instantly. His jump out is fine but teammates don't position for it, so unless you have Xayah you are often stuck. He is a fine champion. But nothing insane. I agree with my other friend that he has a strong laning phase because everyone is weak at that point. But as the game goes on he stays squishy and relies completely on his team to kill someone fast.

Short answer: yes, and he'll be better once the next patch goes live (he should be seeing some helpful changes).

Long Answer: He's a support. Damage isn't necessarily his thing. He's there to CC the other team so your ADC or the rest of your team can get kills, and if someone dies, finish off a kill.

If you go the coin line, build tanky, and be prepared to do a lot of CC. Your big tools will be your ult and knock-up, followed by your shield (Without Xayah especially since it's sooo short range without her but still a big part of your mobility).

If you go with the Spellthief line, you're building more to poke. Build AP and health items (slightly similar to coin build), especially one that help move speed and cc, like item 3116 or item 3100 .
