New urgot may be the hardest counter to Kayn

Since urgot will build even tankier than now, rhaast will be the ideal form to kill him. But Urgot is also ranged, so Kayn will actually advance towards his blue form by fighting him. The more you fight urgot as kayn, the less effective against him you're gonna get. 2 weeks after releasing kayn, rito releases a champion who counters him pretty hard. Maybe.

Aside from the magic damage passive, the damage between Shadow Assassin and Base Kayn isn't different enough to warrant that kind of accusation.

Quite the contrary I'd say. Base Kayn is about as weak as a Kindred without stacks. Waiting for your other form to be ready means that your team will have a jungler who can't do much neither in teamfights nor on his own for other 4 minutes. You're already getting your first transformation just in time for mid game, on average, so having to wait other 4 minutes can easily lose you the game.

It raises an interesting dichotomy of 'what happens when his form isn't optimal for the matchup.' Is Urgot the only case here?

Gnar maybe? Since you build him tanky anyway, mini gnar is probably more resistant to burst than the average ranged champion. Also champions like Swain and Vladimir, especially vladimir i'd say.

Btw, red form isn't really op on tanks that stack armor, it's strong vs champions with just high health. So I'd say it'd be really good vs Galio, who's mostly tanky vs magic damage. And Cho'gath, at least if he doesn't build full armor.

Also, as a reversed situation, maybe all "melee adcs" (yi, trynda, yasuo), fiora, jax and riven. They don't build much health, and don't rely on burst, which red form can avoid with R. I'd say rhaast would almost always lose to these guys, while blue kayn might have slightly more success.

Still, new Urgot really stood out to me as a possible hard counter.
