Thoughts on Season 5 Changes (OPINION INCOMING)

These are my own personal thoughts on the upcoming changes to League as they are currently on PBE.

If you don't know about the upcoming changes, I recommend you read this before you continue: http://8bitchimp.com/league-legends-pbe-pre-season-5-patch/

RANT INBOUND

New Elixirs: Pretty cool. I like how they are more diversified and more narrowly purposed to players have to decide what they want to use them for.

New Towers: I sorta like these changes. The shield given by the second turret should have a smaller maximum and the inhib turret should have a decrease in it's armor pen, but other than that I think it's alright.

Baron Buff: I'm indifferent about this one. But I do find it interesting how Riot is trying to give buffs to winions around champions.

Dragon Buff: What the heck Riot. This completely negates dragon's importance as a global gold giver, meant to help the entire team rather than granting a slight buff to a single individual. For the buff to even be of any actual importance, you have to get multiple stacks on it, and that is now extremely difficult to do with the percentage damage increase and reduction dragon gets against the last team that killed it. Not only that, but you reduced the XP it gives. I wouldn't have minded if you reduced the global gold, but it's now completely removed and, in my blunt opinion, lacks significance and really isn't worth the risk of trying to take.

Red Buff: Indifference.

Still Waters Buff: I don't like this kind of mechanic. A power-up that just spawns in top and bot after 20 minutes? It also gives low elo players another excuse not to buy wards.

Smiting Monsters Effects: Ehhh. Kinda cool but I don't think it sits well with regular League themes. Nunu no longer unique in getting bonuses from monsters. item 3070 Nunu

Jungle Items: Very interesting in this direction. I'm not sure if it's a good or bad thing yet. Smiting players seems a bit... Strong...

Crab Camp: Really Riot? Give another objective junglers need to worry about. Not only that but yet ANOTHER excuse not to buy wards!

RANT OVER

So all in all I'm sorta excited for the preseason but there are some changes i really don't want coming through, as I feel it takes away from the League experience.

The buffs go to the entire team. They're also less snowbally but have more potential to be significant late game. Right now, taking one dragon just gives you enough gold to get the next one. With this one, it gives you less immediate snowball potential, but getting 3-4 gives you a very strong stat advantage and getting 5 pretty much wins you the game. It's like Baron Buff on Steroids for 3 minutes. That makes it worth taking, but it also means you can run strategies where you push towers a lot early and don't put any focus on dragon. There are strategies and options, unlike now where the worth of dragon compared to any other objectives you can take is very easy to calculate and requires almost no thought.
