I still buy a control ward and use trinket to keep the river warded. It's just unnecessary to rush a sightstone.

Sightstone is still useful to ward your lane bushes vs your enemy laners, ward river from mid, and actually warding gromp or wolves is actually useful. It might not always let you know where she is, but it isn't uncommon for her to clear those out before a gank, so it can at least let you know shes bot side, and you should play back

If you're playing safe and watching the map, you don't have to rush sightstone first anyway. Especially in lower ELO. The only exception I'd make to this--if I don't intend to rush it that is--is with a Xin or Hecarim jg when on blue side since they like to rush you from your turret.
