Lag? "Get a new computer", I say improve your client.

Anyone else experience that gosh darn lag? In game and in the client? My laptop only started to lag when they 'improved' the client. I have low specs on but it seems that they added MORE GOSH DARN EFFECTS FOR MORE GOSH DARN LAG. Make Low specs meaningful! OR JUST BRING BACK THE OTHER CLIENT WITH LESS LAG. If you can update the current client then you can update the old one, or remake it. Old tech? Make it new tech. Is that so hard? All I want is just less lag. I want to be able to honor my teammates post game. I want to ban a champion. I want to pick one properly. You guys just focus on the players with decent computers. [sg-shisa]

What do you think the new client is? It's the old client, remade with newer tech.

You have two Settings available to you to improve your performance and cut down on lag.

  • Enable Low Spec Mode
  • Close Client During Game

Have you tried the second one? It should cut out lag in game.

Also, what are your computer specs?

Well, games have minimum specs for a reason. You shouldn't expect the client to run smoothly if you do not meet this criteria.

If you're experiencing lag, then the issue simply isn't the client. You just have significantly worse specs than my goddamned MacBook.

You cannot reasonably expect Riot to hold back the client to accommodate people with obsolete computers. If the game is still developing, then you're going to have to accept you will need to eventually upgrade your computer to continue playing. Riot tries to keep it toaster-friendly, but there's a limit as to how far they can go with that without screwing over everyone who does have a computer made in this decade.

If you have anti-virus in your computer outside of the Windows default one, you can disable the custom anti-virus and just run the Windows anti-virus from now on. Windows anti-virus is pretty well made these days, and should be fine for typical customer use when it comes to security.

I used to use Avast, but after it blue-screened my computer during the April Update where I ended up needing to do a re-install of my OS (thankfully I was able to get the data out, or else it wipes my data too. And reinstalling everything afterwards was also a pain), I've since just switched to using strictly Windows anti-virus, and so far it does the job pretty fine.

As for why I tell you to switch off custom anti-virus? Because when I do, my League's FPS more than doubled under the same settings. I suspect those custom anti-virus use a lot more resource than needed because they don't have access to the core part of the OS unlike the Windows default anti-virus which would be allowed for such things or something, but yeah.

Maybe you could just try to fix the problem on your own? Not ask riot to do it for you? Fix broken registry items Upgrade your RAM Those are just a few you can do Are you sure the client is the problem? It could be something else

I'm glad people came to my question, a lot of them helped, some didn't, but thanks for your answers! Especially from Dusk.
