Do not blame me for not "following my laner" or "letting my laner roam" leading to your demise

King Odin··73 votes·7,626 views

These two things can make me quite incensed and here's why.

If I am an immobile champion like Orianna Heimerdinger how can you expect me to follow my laner if they are Talon Leblanc Katarina when they can just wait in a bush and kill me? They are more mobile and have way more kill potential than I do. So don't expect me to feed my laner just because you can't back up to tower when I MIA.

Also it's better that I push the lane and try to make them lose xp/gold instead of wasting my time trying to follow them. For all I know they and the jungler could be waiting for me in a bush leading to loss of dragon control because I died. I agree if our jungler is coming bot too then that would be a good time to roam as well, but don't expect me to follow my laner step for step wherever they go. We as a team will gain an advantage if they lose their tower/cs forcing them behind a little. Also it is important not to react to enemies pressure by following where they apply it. If you pressure mid someone has to defend mid or lose it, so you end up forcing the enemy jungler etc mid and then your team can secure dragon etc. So don't complain about me not following my laner when you could have avoided giving up an easy double kill bot or a single kill top/mid by just backing up.

I know it's frustrating but you must understand that different champions work differently. Leblanc Katarina will nearly always roam whether they win lane or not so you should really expect that. I will try my best to keep my pressure up and of course roam my self but it's not always smart to counter roam your laner , especially if you lost lane and you're behind. Not saying it isn't useful and doesn't lead to triple kills for you but it really depends the comp and how everything is played out. But just don't blame me.

I am using mid laners just as an example since I find it is botlane that complains about "letting my laner roam" the most.

You are right though. People always want to blame others for their deaths. If I MIA ping my lane 3 times and warning ping your lane twice and you STILL die to the roaming mid, that is not my fault for not following. In fact, I have a ping available called "on my way" that I will use if I do follow. As a frequent kat player, the worst case scenario is that I leave lane to gank bottom and they smartly ward and back away. I just wasted time and now my lane is screwed (unless they tried to follow me).

Orianna isn't immobile.

True, But I think that compared to roaming mid laners like Akali Ahri Leblanc Katarina Talon she is immobile

Feathermane5 votes

Why would she be less mobile than Talon, Akali or Ahri? Are they gonna ult just to arrive to botlane?

Ummm... youre right, except kat and maybe Talon. They might want to jump to crab

yes she is. compared to some of the champions that OP listed, orianna is definitly immobile. She has some mobility in her speed boost, but is still classified as immobile

Sirsir1 votes

Well she certainly isn't mobile. A tiny MS boost doesn't qualify for mobility, especially when you sacrifice half your non-ult burst potential for it.

Being unable to follow laners is understandable, I find it really stupid when people blame Heimerdinger for a roaming Leblanc

HOWEVER

If you are someone like Zed and the enemy Cassiopeia is roaming more than you, and you are not AT LEAST trying to pressure down the turret and/or warn about MIA's while everyone else is focused on their own laning brawls, then don't blame other laners for dying to 3/4 man ganks and feeding your lane opponent in mid

Yes that happened to me in ranked, Zed never roamed or pinged MIA and blamed everyone else for a fed ass Cassiopeia that apparently duoed with their jungler to provide some wicked ganks

junglerboy161 votes

Well, if it is a Heimer into a Leblanc, you should blame him for letting Leblanc roam. If he were any good, she would have her back to her tower and be down in CS, nearly oom, and sitting at half HP. Heimer is a hard core lane bully, and letting someone roam out of his lane is his problem. That said, if she does roam, and if he pings MIA and danger, you share the blame for the roam.

Aids cuz League6 votes

Ill be totally honest, this has to be one of the dumbest things I've ever read. Now that it's off my chest and said and done.. you all need to remember to not blame any one person, its everyones fault for all parties involved. If LeBlanc roams bot and gets a kill or two its bot lanes fault for dying to her+Heims fault for not following+Jungler for not helping+Tops fault for just guarding their top turret. Once someone starts blaming someone else, that person starts getting demoralized and keeps giving them kills, and you just keep making it worse.

Firstly, Orianna is certainly not an immobile champion and should be following her lane if it's MIA and she knows the direction. She can turn a bad engage right around with her ult.

Secondly, you have the ability to smartping MIA. However that isn't where your job stops. You also have the ability to see which direction they went if they left lane directly, and if you didn't see it then the very least you can do is look at the map to see who's lower health/more extended and therefore more open to the roam. Danger ping that lane to alert them to the potential roam likely coming to them. Using your smartpings can create a huge communication advantage over other teams, provided you can do it properly.

If you don't follow, don't ward and yet fail to take uncontested tower. You deserve the blame.

So you are a farm mage, but you couldn't afford warding your lane, couldn't follow to help, couldn't push, couldn't generate any pressure. What do you even exist for?

Rinky Dinky6 votes

lol ok

Because a swain or heimer is totally gonna be able to take that unconstested tower as soon as that person leaves lane right?

Not likely.

junglerboy161 votes

Heimer most likely would. I don't think you fully realize how powerful he is in lane. Swain though? Yeah, probably not taking tower anytime soon.

Rinky Dinky1 votes

Strong in lane? hell yeah

Can he take a turret in a single push?

Hell no.

Not without ZZ'Rots at least, the Donger Portal

Sammystorm3 votes

When you are laning against an assassin as a farm mage it is usually a good idea to shove the lane into the tower to limit their roaming and to start chunking that tower.

Sammystorm4 votes

Swain and heimer not so much but hiemer is a bad roamer anyways. However someone like orianna should be able to knock down a turret depending on how the laning phase ahs went up to that point.

Llanite1 votes

Then it goes back to the original question: Why do you even exist?

If you can't push, can't roam, can't gank, can't counter-gank. What do you contribute to the team? Being dead-weight doesn't sound healthy to me.

FYI, Swain should definitely follow, while Heimer should take a turret within 2 minutes or less.

Lil Peeto2 votes

I don't ever die from your lane roaming, I do, however, have to play back, losing farm and pressure. I DO NOT blame your dumb ass for them doing their job as a heavy ganker, I WILL blame you if you let them do it for free. Follow them if you can, counter gank if you can, push tower and force them to lose farm, exp, and a tower if you can't do either of those. It's not your fault when the enemy does their job, but don't act like you can't punish it

KaisadiIIa1 votes

Also it's better that I push the lane and try to make them lose xp/gold instead of wasting my time trying to follow them.

You don't roam/counter roam as Orianna?.... She's one of the best champions to do that. First off you have your w to help you catch up and reach the targeted lane, your ultimate can turn any losing fight into an EASY double/triple kill AND you can clear the minion wave in mere seconds (causing the enemy laner to still lose xp).

ALSO if any of the champions you mentioned hid in a bush and waited for you to come, you can q-e-r-w-q (with auto's) and either severely damage them so that they have to run away OR kill them. This is assuming you have SOME Ap, but even just finishing Morello's with double doran's gives you enough to win trades. Your E can really mess burst champions up since it gives you more health and a good amount of defensive stats and if your not maxing it 2nd then you're not playing Ori right against them.

Anyways that's just my 2 cents.

BastionKross2 votes

I understand that immobile champions sometimes don't have the option of following more mobile opponents on a roam. If that situation comes up:

  1. Call or ping MIA.
  2. Push the lane as hard as you can to make the roaming champion pay for leaving lane.

If you do those two things, I have no problem with you not following your opponent on a roam.

Risurin1 votes

Talon can only jump into enemy champion last i checkd, and katarina need a target(at least a ward). yes they have mobility, but they arent the most mobile and hard to follow champion. Orianna for instance has a spell to speed herself up, regardless of w/e is around. you dont always see a katarina Shumpo[E] her way to bot lane or like a talon have enough enemies in the way + cdr + mana to Cutthroat[E] his way to a side lane, even his ultimate Shadow Assault [R] wouldn't be a reliable way to move on the map (as it would be a huge waste of dps for the gank).

And usually the problem with letting an opponent roam, is that often people arent shoving the lane to at least make their opponent lose the exp/gold, push towers and use their pings to signal missing people in their lane and possibly where they were going. They are too busy last hitting while their opponent can roam get things done on the map, and come back before the wave hit his tower. In that sense, you are doing almost the perfect thing for the situation. just need, with the help of your jungler to make sure the opponent roam paths is light up with ward, and then you are almost guaranteed to have a huge exp and gold lead + turret global gold + open up the map for the team

As a Talon main, you can't just follow Talon when he's roaming. All you have to do as Talon is to be patient and jump onto the enemy mid that is trying to counter-roam you. Every time I see the enemy mid laner following me, it means I'll have a free kill in a couple of seconds.

Yes you can, by having him fall behind from his roaming. with some wards,it shouldnt be hard to ping talon roam, then shove mid and get exp/gold advantage, and possibly the tower for the team, which will also open the map for counter roams/deep wards/ganks. Pinging the roam will mean it ahs good chances to be a wasted effort. With a level and item advantage, you should be able to defeat any roamer. Sure this assume that everyone play their role well, but its not really that complicated or hard to pull even in soloq.

Alternatively, with simple ward, you can have a jungler and the roamed lane help you counter the roam, for instance by collapsing into the roamer, which may help dueling issues.

As ADC main, i've seen my fair share of solo laners camp bot because they strongly believe they have to kill bot at X minute into the game, and their opponent matchup is staying in lane last hitting and not doing anything to pressure the roam. This is mostly my point here. Its not about blindly following your opponent when he move out of lane, its about reacting to his play and countering it to negate its effect or, even better, get an advantage out of it.

KaisadiIIa1 votes

The whole point of the post, and of my comment is that you do not necessarily have to follow that Talon if he roams. You can ping it and keep pressuring mid, or gank the other lane... there are too many things better than following him. Nobody is defending that you should let him roam for free.

To be honest I never ping MIA when i'm top.

Mainly because I don't want to set off a false alarm since they could be at base.

One game I got reported because Tryndamere came to mid 3 times in the laning phase and killed him, they blamed me for not pinging MIA (I didn't to be honest) but it was not fair that I get reported for not pinging MIA.

Distractivated1 votes

Ah, the old cliché..."Better safe than sorry"

Miku Lv991 votes

I've found many times the enemy mid laner roamed and got kills in bot lane even with standing at tower. Especially the old Fizz and Akali when they were really strong and had tons of mobility and very strong diving potential and always seemed to get fed early game. Although most of those I wouldn't fault the mid laner for not following their lane. I'd fault them for feeding so much in the first place.

Borbland1 votes

I agree, but if the enemy midlaner babysits top/jungle, destroy the mid tower then come to help.

Nothing is more annoying then getting roamed and babysitted by enemy jungler at the same time.

But it's true, sometimes that Kata roams and I ping danger like crazy, and they still continue pushing.

Then Kata gets a double...

AtheosisX1 votes

I agree with your point mostly, but in those cases you can follow them to the lane via another route instead of literally following them. No doubt that is a bad idea if you are a mage and they are an assassin.

Heretic Chicken1 votes

Basically, with farmer champions, you should have a good wave control, allowing you to push your opponent to his turret, preventing him from roaming, or, at least, making him chose between roaming and losing a lot of CS/tower damage, or staying in lane to push back. The first option makes the enemy take a huge risk, cause he'll lose XP/farm for nothing if his roaming isn't a success.

And, even with a bad roaming champion, you should always keep your eyes on the map to look for counter gank opportunities, especially if your bot lane is getting dived 2v4.

Digivolve1 votes

I agree with this, though you need to be sure you ping and even type it out if you really think they are roaming.

while its on everyone to have map awareness you should try to help your teammates as much as you can.

Also if you see them roaming on a ward a bit early or see them pop out you need to take something from it like shoving mid or ganking the opposite lane, honestly most of the time following up by that point will just result in giving them another kill if they are coordinated at all.

Malix Farwin1 votes

While you may be right in some situations but if your mid laner has been sitting in bot lane for 2 minutes straight, not hiding just pushing the lane with their bot, Then you better A. push mids turret or B. being your ass down to bot lane. Hiemerdinger does a great job of punishing roamers by pushing their lane hard(objectives > kills) orianna can do the same, not as good mind you but fairly good wave clear. The worst mid laners are the ones that llet them roam without punishing them in some meaningful way.

Thryale1 votes

I don't always die when the enemy laner roams. And sometimes the enemy laner roamed and is now sitting in my lane for almost a full minute befure I die due to some crazy tower dive/engage.

So yes, when the enemy laner is able to simply sit in my lane and grief me while you do nothing about it, I will blame you.

B1naryB0t1 votes

You're doing the right thing by not following in that instance. IMO just ping and hope they aren't THAT stupid, meanwhile punish the enemy midlane for roaming by pushing a turret down.

Arcade Andrew1 votes

The problem in bronze, Is even when the best of us have map awareness

we dont always know that the enemy mid might be coming bot or top

I assume when the enemy mid isnt on the mpa and the mid lane is pushed that she backed.

this is where mias come in, WHICH 75% OF BRONZE FUCKS never call... one mia ping is not enough it gets lost in the confusing of noises and such, imagine bot just engaged, you think theyll notice and mia ping? ONE very quite mia ping? nope

you need to spam that bitch so they know mid is mia

DrNova1 votes

The biggest problem is no one calls mia's half the time. Hell there is a good chance op didnt call mia's half the time. either no mia's at all or the "one second before they jump from bush mia.

ceral41 votes

Are you saying that katarina ward jumps to get to bot? And that talon dashes to scuttles to gank bot?

LitoJ1 votes

ping mia ping mia ping mia

Your botlane is still pushed to enemy tower At least 1 complete minute has passed since the 1st and 2nd mia pings. Your botlane is still nowhere near their safe zone. "Enemy double kill!"

Every time.

I follow my mid lane opponent quite a lot believe or not, or I'll try to out-roam them, however sometimes I cannot always roam or follow because I have to push my lane first or help with other objectives, such as helping my jungler escape from certain demise or even get the mid lane tower.

I can't always be everywhere, I will communicate as much as I can and ping, but your teammates also have to be aware of what's going on, especially if they're being sent warnings that occur at over the time frame of at least 10 seconds.

I can understand bot lane not immediately backing up on a mia if it's an immobile champion that's roaming, but if it's someone like Leblanc, you better move it or lose it.

Athenes Lulu1 votes

If my mid doesn't follow up OR push to enemy turret like crazy, then that's the problem.

That's the kind of shit people never do in low elo.

joejoemax1 votes

People don't do this in low elo because chances are the river isn't warded and you don't know when they will be back and with who. I play viktor mid and people always tell me to follow the leblanc and I am thinking are you stupid or something. Now if the mid laner doesn't ping mia that's a different story.

The Trent1 votes

Just another reason immobile mages aren't that good of a pick. Immobile mages pretty much can only do good in lane and then late game suicide for 1 kill.

Silents4291 votes

The only time its your fault is when they are consistently roaming and hardly in lane, because that usually means you aren't pressuring enough.

If I am winning lane as Swain You bet your ass I am going to chase them down and murder them in the river, otherwise I ping and keep farming.

SwordArt0ffline1 votes

Calling Mia or pinging doesnt always save your bot lane. Theres always a possibility of a 4 man dive.
