I also remember when he sucked balls and was barley playable. Also his signature moves stayed and they changes his most boring one. I think its all for better.
I dont even remember what ability he had instead of the barrels.

remember when gp e (raise morale) used to: kill an allied minion, inspiring nearby champions to receive Raise Morale's passive benefits for 10 second... that denying cs was awesome

Good old times when he was a toxic ball of free stats that would thoughtlessly Q you every few seconds and 2 permaslows to make sure you couldn't escape him.

I wish if they had to make him a villain, they went the Barbossa route instead. Let him retain that playfulness here and there and not be a complete asshole.
As for being Donkey Kong...yeah where does he get those barrels from? In fact where does MF get her bullet hell hailstorm (E & R) from?
I miss when Gangplank was jolly and fun - they really should have kept his old VA.
They said they didn't want him to be quite so "Pirate McPiraty" but the just changed him into "Murder McPiraty." Just as stereotypical, but less fun.
sigh I miss his laugh... his laugh when he ulted was glorious.

I don't like what they did to him aesthetically either. His barrels make a kind of sense I guess, though I think they could have come up with something better than barrels.
Still, I'd have taken the old E with the new ult.
I liked old GP more than the new one. Didn't have to play the barrel minigame to do damage. And Raise Morale was fun for the support capability and the passive buffs it gave. And they ruined his laugh, it doesn't sound nearly as cool when you ult.
