Plat V told me dodging was a good tactic for ranked. Is it true?

When I complained about a 4-man in blind pick forcing me adc and then taking all AD champs, one of them told me I should have dodged que. This was just before the game ended, so in the after-game chat this happened:

(I'm ValiantCoruscare)

ValiantCoruscare: Dodging gets you banned if you do it often Saìnt: no it doesn't Saìnt: i dodge ranked all the time ValiantCoruscare: ... Saìnt: it's literally the wait time Saìnt: that's it ValiantCoruscare: Okay...

I looked him up, and he's Plat V. Is this a legitimate strategy? If it won't get me banned, dodging que could absolutely help in ranked. Hell, even if it made you lose a little lp, it'd still be a useful tool if it didn't do anything else, but Saìnt makes it sound like it doesn't even do that. Riot, is dodging que supposed to be there as an option for avoiding trolls and people who make terrible pick choices for the team comp? Because sometimes there are games that you know for a fact are going to be un-winnable or not fun at all, just in champion select.

if your team first picks something like katarina, and the enemy team picks naut/sejuani. then you guys pick kassadin/miss fortune. then the enemy team picks lissandra and janna, just go ahead and dodge. right off the bat, nothing you could do for your team will come out with the win.

people queue dodge because they know theres no chance they can win in champ select when people make selfish picks and you dont even get the opportunity to carry yourself.

why waste 20+minutes, and -15+lp, over 5min requeue and -3lp. at least the dodge doesn't count as a loss or lowers your mmr.

if you ahve 4 noobs with you you better dodge... except if youre in series. For a game of around 40 mins everytime you can wait 5-10 mins between them and have a good experience...

I have to admit I started dodging in ranked. For me, it's less for champs picked, and more for attitude.

A) I'm going ADC. B) Well, I haven't gotten to ADC for about 5 games and I pick above you, so I'll be going ADC. Sorry. A) Fuck you I'm still going ADC.

I'll dodge that. summoner 4

Even if I let him ADC, he's going to be trouble.

Definitely dodge if you have someone on your team who:

  1. Picks a troll champion into a role
  2. Says "X" or feed/afk and doesn't get "X"
  3. Someone is being toxic in Champion select
  4. You have that feeling in your gut something isn't right It is better to dodge and have the wait penalty than to waste 20+ minutes and lose LP.

I only dodge when the team comp is weak, or a troll is on my team, or when I am the mid (because I never play mid so I prefer dodge)

Dodging does make you lose a little LP. Dodging enough puts you in Leavebuster. I wouldn't make a habit of it.
