*New Draft Feedback* Can we have a "But not this role" button if we pick primary Fill?

Valiant Yordle·1/15/2016, 2:57:24 PM·223 votes·5,995 views

As it is, in the new draft pick, if you pick Fill as your primary role, you aren't given a second button/choice at all. Instead of having no second button, you could make it so that you have a caveat button, which lets you choose the one role that you don't really want to play right now.

It's really frustrating for me, who pretty much always is happy in soloque to fill any role but marksman, to have to choose two roles specifically, because if I select fill, there's a chance I'll end up on Marksman, feed, and likely get flamed.

My friend was complaining about it because he played a jungle game and did really, really poorly, so he wanted to play a different role. Any different role. He picked fill, thinking "oh, it probably won't put me in the same position again, and I really like filling".

It did.

Yeah I can pretty much fill any role... except jungle...[zombie-nunu-bummed]

The whole point of being "fill" is to be the one role no one wants. If you really don't want to play a certain role, well, queue up for the two you really want to do. Fill is for those who don't care what role they play. Not for those who are ok playing 4 of 5 roles.

This was one of the more commented suggestions when it first was unveiled. Unfortunately, their "solution" is "you have to pick two, but change them up from game to game."

I'd love to be able to pick "fill !adc" myself.

They just should let you pick between 1-5 options. Sometimes I want to play one, sometimes 3, sometimes 4, sometimes 2. I WANT CHOICE.

Riot pls

This was pretty much my first thought as well. Like I'm fine filling any role except mid, I'm absolutely trash at mid. It would be really nice if you could say 'any role but this one' and I think it'd make matchmaking even faster.

FistOfSharkiesha1/16/2016, 12:40:31 AM5 votes

They should allow the preferences to be toggled to "anything but"s. This way if you had 1-2 roles you suck at or just don't like, you could fill for everything but those roles. Also would allow you to pick 1 role you wanted and 1 role you don't.

I noticed that within the past year or so- "fill" stopped always meaning "support" for me. I was genuinely surprised when I called "Fill" and was freely given mid-lane for the first time. And then- it happened again- and again then top was the position left open. I was genuinely dumbfounded after multiple seasons of "fill" always meaning "support".

I like that "fill" can be multiple things, but I do agree that I wish you could say "fill- but not X". "Fill" is me saying I'll take the role nobody wants in order to promote team unity for not arguing about who goes where. "Fill" is not me saying I'm good at every role. I'm a bad Marksman, I main Mid and Support, and I play Top reasonably well and my Junglers are the ones where you sit in the jungle until 6 then proceed to gank whenever an ultimate is up.

spawnman621/16/2016, 12:56:34 AM3 votes

I agree. The picking of two roles is nice, however it could be improved by more choices available.

DrCyanide1/15/2016, 11:51:06 PM3 votes

That sounds like a really good use of the existing UI space, I'd love to see that implemented!

TotalJerk1/16/2016, 12:15:43 AM2 votes

Fill but not support everywhere.

highly agree

My favorite champ is ashe. With Team Builder, I could queue up as Ashe every single game. Now I get punished for 15 mins for dodging a game because I ended up in a role I don't want to play.

Thank you Riot. I'm done. Time to find another game.

Tricky Steak1/16/2016, 8:41:38 PM1 votes

Don't you think this would be a better idea?

  1. Instead of having to choose only 2 roles, we should have the possibility to choose up to 4 roles.

  2. Every players must select at least 2 roles out of 4 in order to enter the queue. (It means there would be 2 optional roles)

  3. The roles must be entered by order of preference from left to right.

  4. If a player select "Fill" on a certain role, he would not need to select any other role.

Examples:

  • **Case 1**: A player want to fill but play adc & mid in priority. The player has to select in that order:

ADC, MID, Fill, Empty

  • **Case 2**: A player want to fill but not play adc. The player has to select any combination of roles without adc in the order he prefers:

MID, Supp, Jungle, TOP

  • **Case 3**: A player want to play Top & Jungle only. The player can leave the two last roles empty since they are optional:

TOP, Jungle, Empty, Empty

This system would cover efficiently any possible combination of roles a player want to play and would also greatly reduce queue time.

I agree. There should be a minus button, lets you pick Fill minus ADC. :) Cause I would like to play all but that in my games; but im locking myself into 2 choices every game to avoid 1. I will not be as likely to stay up on my other 2 roles unless I now go out of my way to queue explicitly for them.

My post on this topic didn't get any traction, but I'm glad yours did. This needs to be added right around yesterday.

Flemman1/17/2016, 12:26:57 PM1 votes

the prpblem with that option is that support will be the n°1 "not this role" pretty quick, leading to situation like actual TB

Umbernox1/17/2016, 5:41:59 PM1 votes

I just want to say, where this would be good for people that really just don't want to play a specific role at the moment, it would make it very difficult for people to learn how to play every lane or position. For example, if someone is really bad at jungle, they would just put that down for the I don't want to play this position, and then they would never learn how to play jungle. Whereas in the draft mode how it is, they can be made to play that area. Even if they really suck, they will eventually get better because they are being forced to play it. I do like the idea, but it would leave more room for those people that no one really likes. "I can only play this role" .... No one likes that. Especially if they are going to be playing draft in ranked or even regular, they should know how to play everything, because it is draft mode. Even in the old draft mode, it was pick order, so if you got stuck with something you couldn't play you had to learn how to play it.

ZGM Dazzling1/15/2016, 5:19:55 PM1 votes

But how would the match making system place you? Just because someone has "adc" as their first choice and you have not adc, doesnt mean theyll get adc.

Something Snazzy1/16/2016, 6:14:23 AM1 votes

God I hate the new system. Any fill is incredibly fucked. I love filling but mostly because I love using my wide champion arsenal to either counter pick or fill necessities (e.g. Taric if they are AD heavy, tank top if we have a Yi jungle, AP support if we have an AD mid, etc). That is mostly gone. Furthermore, I find myself constantly shoved into a role I either hate, or shoved into support again and again and again (I don't even mind support, just not 4 times in a row.....)

edit This turns "fill" from filling a role to simply a "I can play any lane." This makes me sad.

Maratsune1/16/2016, 7:23:18 AM1 votes

Fill. Except jungle, please. I'd be happy with that. Then again, considering I've literally never jungled, maybe I should just suck it up and get past that hurdle. It's been 3 years, after all.

Arkantasa1/16/2016, 9:35:13 AM1 votes

agreed lol

Yuumi Zuumis1/16/2016, 9:38:35 AM1 votes

I really want to pick Mid/Fill, since I main mid but don't really care what I get beyond that - as long as it's not support. Naturally, having Fill anywhere in my selected roles (even as the secondary) just lands me as support almost every time. I'd love to be able to pick Mid/NotSupport so that I get mid if it's available, or top/jg/adc if it's not.

RIPxMidnight1/16/2016, 3:59:11 PM1 votes

How about an option linked to a player's account that lets him rank his fill preference.

E.G.

Player 1: Top > Mid > Jungle > Support > Marksman

Player 2: Marksman > Support > Jungle > Top > Mid

You can see that Player 1 prefers solo roles to duo lanes, whereas Player 2 prefers teamwork to solo lanes.

In the current system, if both select "Fill", there's an equal chance that they would get the unclaimed support role. With a preference declared ahead of time, the system would weight Player 2 higher to fill the support role and give Player 1 something else.

Rito make it happen pls

NegusInParis1/16/2016, 4:23:39 PM1 votes

Please call the role by it's name "bot" :P

Foreboden1/16/2016, 4:27:24 PM1 votes

You know, I don't think this is such a bad thing. I mean, if we pick fill and we get a role we aren't used to and lose the game, maybe you might decide on practicing that role so that if you do happen to choose fill the next time and you get the role you weren't good at before, you will be good at the role. You'll become versatile in playing all lanes and become a better player all together.

TOXlC SUMMONER1/16/2016, 6:46:57 PM1 votes

Can we get something that says i am willing to wait to not be put as the support when i click to jungle. Seems terrible, again looks like Riot Games is trying to turn this into DOTA 2.

Dealth1/16/2016, 7:03:33 PM1 votes

Might as well just be able to select up to 5 roles with a minimum of 2. (preferably a minimum of one, but I don't think that will happen)

spirit cooking1/16/2016, 7:33:13 PM1 votes

why not just check boxes for the roles u want. I don't like to adc, but am happy to apply my bronze skills to the other roles
