Blue build Ezreal

Been leveling another account (currently level 24) and playing around with different Ezreal builds.

Initially the new essence reaver looked like an amazing item, especially combined with trinity force. 40% CDR with just 2 items, yes plz! However, I found the build took a long time to ramp up (essence reaver is 3600gold & trinity force is 3800 gold)). Buy something like berserker greaves on top of that and you are looking at 8500gold for those 3 items.

So then I decided to give the old blue build a shot and actually found it a lot of fun and was having a lot of success. I think this is due a lot to the fervor of battle keystone. Fervor seems to really make Ezreal a lane bully early on, and the early tear really lets you do some serious poke with your Q. Manamune is also on 2500gold, cdr boots 800 gold, iceborn gauntlets are 2600. 3 items for 5900 gold (much quicker than the previous builds 3 items), and then you can add one of the new last whisper items (depending on who you are playing - I find the grevious wounds one to usually be the better option) for 2700 gold.

4 solid items for 8600 gold, only 100gold more expensive then the 3 items in the original build I was trying.

The build was putting out very solid damage with the nice kite advantage and was spiking really well at the 20min marker, which is when a lot of these games seem to be being decided atm.

Anyway, just thought I'd share that a non-crit build in this new crit meta seems to be having some success, and I think it's great. I always enjoyed the blue build ezreal but I found it to be a little weak in season 5. I think fervor's really revitalizes this build!

Curious to know if anyone else has been playing Ezreal and what builds they have been having success with.

The issue with essence reaver ezreal is that his Q cannot critically strike so it takes away one of his strongest points, which is kinda depressing. If they could just make his Q crit (maybe for reduced bonus dmg or something) he could actually make use of all the new crit focused items imo

Oh really? I did not know this. Perhaps that's the other reason I found the essence reaver build to be somewhat disappointing, that would make a lot of sense.

Yeah, I made the mistake of trying a high-crit chance build ezreal in an aram. He can still just auto attack and get the crit benefits like a normal ADC, but that really goes against his identity imo

yeah especially since crits now do more than just damage xD

TBH I actually kinda suspect that fervor of battle is actually the better option on many adc's over bloodlust. not every one I guess, it depends on when the champs get their power spike.

Ya I think I agree with you, especially with all the lifesteal options now available (not just bork or bt!). Even the new mercurials has lifesteal, which will likely become a required buy for adcs - assuming the game time gets slowed down a bit. Right now games seem to end once players have 3-4 items and I can't imagine that will continue to be the trend I guess we'll see.

Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is that the lifesteal from crit won't actually be as impactful on adc's as it seems to be right now, but the added damage from fervor's might make a huge difference in the lane phase.

I too have found the Trinity + ER item build to be absolutely fail on him. Much more expensive than these two items used to be and Trinity Force in particular offers far less stats, notably attack speed, AP, and AD. Essence Reaver has a large combine cost and doesn't give you more AD or CDR when finished.

I'm still working out item builds but I think selecting gold efficient flat damage items like you mentioned is the better path for him. I hope Riot either throws some buffs his way or works on Trinity Force again because literally all the Trinity Force users got shafted except Gangplank and Yasuo. My friend who plays Irelia has no idea what to rush anymore because it is so garbage on her. It's no good on Jax anymore either but thankfully he can rely on Guinsoos and Gunblade now.

Guinsoos is quite strong on Irelia as well, I would tell your friend to rush that. Irelia is being banned a lot in high elo atm because guinsoos + tri force makes her a total beast. Gunblade instead of triforce meant even work well on her.

But ya the life of Ezreal is tough atm. Blue build has been the only build I've tried so far that has felt good and I've had consistent success on, and this is with 40+ Ezreal games atm. AP Ezreal feels weaker this season as well unfortunately :(.
