Anyone else feel like Kled and Skarrl are what Quinn and Valor should have been?

Having Skarrl actually changes the game for Kled. The mounted lizard gives Kled access to more health, abilites (one being his ult) and even is a resource to be managed by Kled

Valor just shows up as particle effects and to make Quinn go fast .-.

People said the same thing when Kindred was released. And while I do think Kled fulfills the "dynamic duo" fantasy better (Skaarl fundamentally alters Kled's mechanics rather than just being a pretty particle effect), I don't agree that this was necessarily the space intended for Quinn, as Valor was supposed to feel like his own Champion -- a fighting equal, which neither Wolf nor Skaarl necessarily do well (Wolf plays like more of a sidekick, and Skaarl plays like more of a pet who boosts Kled's combat prowess rather than being a character worth fighting all on his own).

+1, we meet again my friend.

Well Valor WAS his own champion, until Quinn changes came out.....

To be fair, Valor is her passive, Q, W and R.

Even if it's just particle effects for the most part.

I always felt Quinn should have been the ADC and Valor a fighter. On her ult she would convert from ADC to melee with bonus armor and MR.

Agreed, although I would keep Valor as more of an Assassin than a Fighter, as eagles are swift and have the means to kill quickly (like Assassins) but aren't really good at taking hits (unlike Fighters).

IMO, the melee/ranged dynamic was a huge part of what made Quinn so fun and unique before her rework. She was the first Marksman to have a transformation mechanic, and it really pushed the idea of Valor being half the Champion.

...Jayce is a marksman. He's just unable to function in bot lane because he's the only transformation champion in the game to have mana costs on all 6 abilities, making him much weaker early.

Valor Bot1 votes

Jayce is tagged as a Marksman under the current class setup, but it's an outdated system. He's classified as an Artillery Mage/Skirmisher hybrid now (and rightly so -- I don't think Jayce's main damage/threat comes from pelting people with ranged auto attacks)

but have you ever seen an ADC Jayce pop his W in cannon form and literally oneshot someone with 3 crits? cause I have. LOL

Sooo..... old Quinn?

Lugg1 votes

Old Quinns ult actually hurt her since she had no range and no tankyness at all.

Here's a better question.

Who misses the old Quinn/Valor pair, where Valor was a transformation mechanic and not just a speedboost, and when Quinn had to actually try to get her passive marked on people?

I do miss the transformation, but the updated version is just better.

Doesn't matter what she should have been anymore, Riot completely went against their rework goals and now shes in a worse spot (arguably stronger, but shes toxic to play against in most matchups)

Anyone else tired of this comparison? Both champions were made with different tech available and her she would have needed a heavier rework (with probably a lot of new animations) if they were going to do more with Valor.

She might actually get a VGU in the future to better support the thematic of them working as a team.

ADepressedLeona3 votes

That being said, the marksmen update was not too long ago.

They could have easily done something dynamic with Valor other than "Valor is now Quinn's taxi"

Ralanr1 votes

I'm going to disagree on the count of that seeming to require more work than a class update provides. Rarely do class updates give new models an animations, preferring to recycle already existing animations for new abilities.

Graves reload animation was an idle animation for example.

They added a few I guess, but more would have warranted a VGU on Fiora or Shen level.

I really don't think Quinn was in need of any changes substantial enough to warrant heavy animations/VFX work. If anything, her update removed a great deal of effort that had already been put into Valor's animations, VFX, and SFX.

To some point, i agree, but valor is still used in all of quinns abilitys. Even if just used as a weapon :b

i feel Kindred was what Quinn should have been or at least Kled

To be fair Quinn is particles: everything on this game is particles.

No, I don't think that mechanic would be well suited to Quinn at all.

(Obviously it would work even less well for Kindred, since it directly contradicts "Never one without the other.")

However, if the marketing before Quinn was released made you think that she would be like Kled, then it was bad marketing.

I think the rework is mostly good, trying to use Valor as a melee attacker was always awkward and not usually worth the risk, but it makes her fit badly into the meta because she doesn't have a traditional "shoot stuff a lot" marksman ult.

Having Valor actually changes the game for Quinn. The pet bird pecks out enemy eyes, marks targets for additional dmg, and carries her for super fast roams.
