How to ACTUALLY Nerf Yasuo

Edit: nobody likes me or my opinions.

As an Ahri Ahri main, I have always had trouble against Yasuo Yasuo . To engage on him, you need to get close to him to auto-attack so you can break his shield, so it's easy for him to attack you before you can do much, and then right as you get ready to go full burst on him, he uses Wind Wall. This blocks literally all of Ahri's Ahri abilities, and you have a hard time even if you ult around him. If he kills you pre-6, he'll take the lane, and even the game, with ease. This and the fact that he has no mana costs really makes it nearly impossible to beat a good Yasuo Yasuo player as a skillshot-based champion. In my opinion, hard-countering many champions, no mana cost, a shield, an ability that blocks all projectiles, and an ultimate ability that does massive amounts of damage all are parts of the epitome of an unhealthy champion. Therefore, I have come up with some changes that hopefully won't affect Yasuo Yasuo mains too much, but also making him much more balanced. They won't changed the damage output, because let's face it, that won't happen, and he's supposed to be a high-damage champion. Not all of them need to be implemented, but at least one should be used. They are as follows:

  1. Yasuo Yasuo has a mana cost, and his passive shield is shown like the passive of the Statikk Shiv item 3087 .
  2. His Wind Wall has a health bar of how much it can absorb, similar to Yorick's Yorick wall.
  3. One of his two passives are nerfed (i.e. crit chance is only 1.5 times the usual)

This will also prevent Yasuo Yasuo from being a tank that can also dish out massive amounts of damage. He's an assassin, so he should be built like one, and melee champions shouldn't be viable as an ADC. He shouldn't be built as a tank, and nor should he be viable in positions he's not meant to be in at all.

Thank you very much for reading my suggestion, and I hope you liked it. Feel free to leave any other ideas below. [slayer-jinx-wink]

I honestly never see Riot giving Yasuo mana as a resource. Currently his "resource" flow is a false resource. Instead, it is more of a meter.

Here is how to fix it.

When Yasuo tosses out his windwall, it will block projectiles, absorbing their damage up to an amount equal to a base stat scaled by rank, + an amount scaled by the current amount of flow accumulated. This will consume his flow and place his Windwall on cooldown.

This also means it will consume his Flow Shield. Conversely, by popping his flow shield, you subsequently weaken his Windwall.

This makes his flow into a true resource.

Now, there is a point where I feel this should also come with some compensation. I believe there should be one, or several of the following in order to compensate.

  • Increase flow generation rate
  • Increase flow cap
  • Decrease % of flow needed to obtain flow shield (doesn't need to be completely full for shield to block incoming damage)
  • Decrease Windwall cooldown
LordSirChipmunk1 votes

I honestly think that it shouldn't be a nerf, and more of a change that won't really affect the mains while also making it fun to play against him as a champion that uses skillshots. This is overall seems really fair, and I like it a lot. Personally, decreasing the cooldown of Wing Wall seems like it would be the best compensation. I just find it annoying that he can stop your engages in a heartbeat, and then burst you down, while he can engage pretty much whenever he has his flow shield. Making the Wind Wall consume flow makes him more choice-based, and less spam-spam-spam-knockup-ult-win-based.

Definitely upvoted.

As an Ahri Ahri main, I have always had trouble against Yasuo Yasuo .

I'd imagine so, he counters you.

To engage on him, you need to get close to him to auto-attack so you can break his shield, so it's easy for him to attack you before you can do much,

Your AA outranges every ability of his but his third Q. Though he can still make it to you to fight if the minions are right, you have time to react.

and then right as you get ready to go full burst on him, he uses Wind Wall. This blocks literally all of Ahri's Ahri abilities,

Stop throwing your entire combo at his wind wall then.

and you have a hard time even if you ult around him. If he kills you pre-6, he'll take the lane, and even the game, with ease.

"Carries can carry", I don't see the problem here to be honest.

Should a snowballing Yasuo not be able to carry?

If Ahri snowballs she can take over the game just as easily.

This and the fact that he has no mana costs really makes it nearly impossible to beat a good Yasuo Yasuo player as a skillshot-based champion.

It is nearly impossible to beat a good Yasuo if he counters you, yes.

That's the nature of a counter. I don't want Kennen nerfed because he counters Yasuo, nor should I.

Everything else being equal, the champion that counters their laning opponent will and should win.

Though the implication that Yasuo counters all skill-shot champions is a false one. Cho'gath mid dunks on Yasuo in lane, Taliyah beats him, Viktor does fine, Anivia, etc.

You also have to consider that most mages, Ahri included, have stronger mid games than Yasuo. Yasuo's mid game is his weakest stage, because he has to itemize for full damage first. This leaves him prone to getting blown up if he isn't snowballing. So if you play safe and don't feed you can be more useful at this stage of the game.

In my opinion, hard-countering many champions, no mana cost, a shield, an ability that blocks all projectiles, and an ultimate ability that does massive amounts of damage all are parts of the epitome of an unhealthy champion.

Yasuo's ultimate does puny baby girl damage, lol. And before he has crit it doesn't offer any armour penetration anymore.

  1. Yasuo Yasuo has a mana cost, and his passive shield is shown like the passive of the Statikk Shiv item 3087 .

Giving Yasuo mana would either make him garbage, or the costs would be so puny he might as well be manaless.

  1. His Wind Wall has a health bar of how much it can absorb, similar to Yorick's Yorick wall.

Would destroy his utility, which would destroy his team fighting and make him far more feast or famine. The power of wind wall is part of what enables a champion who frankly has poor base stats for a fighter to function. By allowing any ADC with high attack speed to destroy it pretty much immediately would gut him.

  1. One of his two passives are nerfed (i.e. crit chance is only 1.5 times the usual)

Would he also get full crit damage then?

This will also prevent Yasuo Yasuo from being a tank that can also dish out massive amounts of damage. He's an assassin, so he should be built like one, and melee champions shouldn't be viable as an ADC. He shouldn't be built as a tank, and nor should he be viable in positions he's not meant to be in at all.

Bruiser or "tank" Yasuo was dragged out back and gunned down literally a few days ago.

As a response to what you wrote:

  1. When he Wind Walls, I obviously don't use all of my abilities. The wall just straight-up stops my engage in its tracks, and I'm now close enough and vulnerable to let him engage on me, without even his shield down.
  2. I don't play ranked/draft mode, so I don't have a choice if I want to go up against him or not.
  3. For the Wind-Wall-having-health idea, the health of it wouldn't be too low, scale with his ad and/or ap, and also scale with points into the ability.
  4. This isn't Overwatch, where you can change your heroes mid-game, so hard-counters aren't always too healthy for the meta. Countering champs is an essential aspect to League of Legends, but it shouldn't be the deciding factor of a game.

You don't understand.

Yasuo doesn't "get" to wind wall your charm.

He has to.

Yasuo is very squishy early game, and if he is charmed by Ahri he is 100% going to lose the trade. Might even die.

So if you can waste his wind wall at the expense of one of your lower cooldown abilities it gives him a window of vulnerability you can take advantage of.

  1. I don't play ranked/draft mode, so I don't have a choice if I want to go up against him or not.

That is a personal decision and has no bearing on discussions of game balance.

  1. For the Wind-Wall-having-health idea, the health of it wouldn't be too low, scale with his ad and/or ap, and also scale with points into the ability.

Would it have any armour?

Because let's say it had like 2,000 HP. Two crits without armour reduction would destroy the wall immediately late game.

  1. This isn't Overwatch, where you can change your heroes mid-game, so hard-counters aren't always too healthy for the meta. Countering champs is an essential aspect to League of Legends, but it shouldn't be the deciding factor of a game.

A counter is inherently a deciding aspect to the game if all other things are equal. If the Yasuo plays as well as you, at least, he will win. Of course, the game isn't a 1v1 game. Yasuo is very gankable, because his kit forces him to push the wave to be effective and he's squishy with no reliable escape. Your top lane Malphite might do well, which will make Yasuo's life hell past laning phase. Counters only truly decide things in laning phase, barring extreme cases like "LOL DUDE WE PICKED A TEAM WITH NO HARD CC INTO MASTER YI AND KATARINA WHY ARE WE LOSING DUDE".

And frankly, Yasuo is not a "hard" counter. Teemo hard counters Tryndamere, because there is basically nothing Tryndamere can do in that match-up at all if the Teemo is not completely braindead.

I don't know if Yasuo actually hard counters anyone, to be blunt. Maybe Vel'koz.

LordSirChipmunk1 votes

As I keep saying to people, this is intended to be more of a change than a nerf, to make it more fun for people to play skillshot champs against him. When I said I don't play draft mode/ranked, what I was getting at is that I can't just ban Yasuo, and I have no choice if I want to play him or not. Finally, Vel'koz actually counters Yasuo in my opinion, because his ult can't be blocked by wind wall. Also, his q splits into two, so it can go around the wall.

its not the part about being able to break it, it is the fact he has a safety net like that as an assassin/fighter, how it can absorb abilities that would normally kill.

i don't care about the damage, it is the fact he makes crit more useful than any other champ by existing. one shiv is twice as useful on him, or pd.

meanwhile you forget that a crit is 2x the normal damage, meaning a crit with 50 ad is 100 damage, vs a 90 ad with no crit hits doing only 90. crit being the HIGHER damge output, and crit also makes damage twice as effective because it doubles the already positive change in damage output.

I hate it when yasuo mains try to defend his free crit, you are given easy access to twice the damage output far earlier than any champion in the game, you also fail to understand that your q is a 1/1 ad ratio, so every ad item you buy, you get it in your 4 second Q that reduces even fucking further with any cdr, does 100 damage at max, and CAN CRIT. item 3134 with crit is item 1038 level damage for 200 gold cheaper and added effects.

On top of the part where crit is never usually alone, but when it is, it boasts high ad items. Usually always being paired with attack speed, making 2x crit over the top useful Based off of champ.gg build path maxed at lvl 13 the q has BASE 100 + base lvl 13 no runes no masteries, he has 90 AD. 100+90ad= 190 damage on a 4 second CD, Now throw in some crit, making it a 380 power ability. item 3031 existance... Throw in the ult change and 50% of the targets armor they bought vanishes and you have more damage that isn't being blocked while twice is coming in. And also the fact that lifesteal is also hightened with crit, as you heal back more the more damage you do, making crit ideal for lifesteal on top of crit.

CRIT: Makes Damage better Makes Life-steal better

Anyway you slice it, crit has its advantage, and in some cases overdoes many early ad item choices, there isn't a lack of damage when you double your existing... putting low ad on par with itemized ad, while future ad investment overthrows all other ad investment.

I suppose I'm a little bit salty, but my point still stands that Riot calls him an assassin, and even if he's more of a juggernaut skirmisher, I don't really want him to be an ADC or a tank. He seems unhealthy to me, and if you think that a q ability with a 100% attack damage ratio and an ult with a 150% isn't dealing massive amounts of damage, I don't know what to say. I can't remember a single fun game where I'm an Ahri up against a Yasuo, and League of Legends supposed to be fun, so Riot can take your money on cosmetic items.

Ruin Lance1 votes

when did riot call him an assassin? Look at yasuo's champion info page. It clearly says that he's primarily a fighter.

and I've played yasuo in pretty much every way there is to play him. I can safely say that tank yasuo does significantly less damage than glass cannon yasuo. I think someone who is biased is more credible than someone who has no idea what they're talking about.

maybe you should try learning to play against yasuo instead of being as stubborn as you are and acting like there's no way to play against him.

you're trying to gut the champion but hes fine as he is what i would recommend:

  1. learn to play the laning phase properly 2.get good at your main 3.freeze lane play extremely safe try to always keep the wave under your tower or somewhat near 4.farm and try to scale keep an eye on the mini map and set up smart ganks with your jungler 5.look for roaming opportunities to snowball your self 6.learn to play the laning phase properly 7.get good at your main

also what do u mean by " his passive shield is shown like the passive of the Statikk Shiv" ? cause theres a white bar under his hp that indicates its up and even thought the animation of it when triggered fades slightly before the shield value you can keep an eye on the white bar when it fully depletes then its actually down but the difference between the animation and the bar is like 0.2 or something so u wont notice it.

LordSirChipmunk1 votes

What I mean is giving him Mana, which would be displayed in the bar, and then having his flow stored in a buff icon, that also has an animation for when it's full, similar to how his q gets an animation when he's ready to fire the whirlwind.

They won't changed the damage output, because let's face it, that won't happen, and he's supposed to be a high-damage champion. Not all of them need to be implemented, but at least one should be used. They are as follows:

Just skipping to the point.. ok so lets see what you have

  1. Yasuo Yasuo has a mana cost, and his passive shield is shown like the passive of the Statikk Shiv item 3087 .

absolutely not, you said this wont change too much. This is a massive game warping change for the champion. His shield status is already visible

  1. His Wind Wall has a health bar of how much it can absorb, similar to Yorick's Yorick wall.

No, this changes how he does when he's behind and would get autodestroyed by ahri's W + autoattack. This would change how it works massively and it would be far less effective in teamfights thus making him a much worse pick in high elo. All this would do is give wood V a placebo to pacify them.

  1. One of his two passives are nerfed (i.e. crit chance is only 1.5 times the usual)

This would do nothing. Making his damage less reliable would either randomly cause your fuck-ups to go unpunished every now and then which happens anyways at some points in yasuo games inevitably if you ever fuck up or it just does nothing noticeable and since he stacks attack speed it will likely be unnoticeable since it isn't really random chance. I notice you have no math here which suggests you are just tossing random crap out and hoping it sticks. As for his shield its already been nerfed repeatedly and people like yourself still aren't satisfied so this isn't REALLY an openended nerf I believe.

Absolutely nothing you suggested would support this

Now, time to get ready for all of the troll, "Get Gud" comments.

You probably do need to get gud, but at game design not gameplay. It sounds like your gameplay could use some work too

His Mana Cost is a pretty cool thing for him as it allows him to do what he does without restrictions. Pretty fair if he isn't fed.

His Passive is IMO what makes him a bit annoying since two crit items = 100% crit but its IMO also core to his Identity

I like the Wind Wall Idea with the health. I just don't think It should be too low (5 hit IMO since thats the point is to block skillshots.) and only get taken down by abilities so it's not entirely worthless.

The Whamboozler1 votes

Correction. Yes it is.

Yas players tend to assume that it's easy for people to just "play around" a champion with a kit like Yasuo's because Yasuo's kit is pants-on-head crazy and lets him outplay even his hardest counters if he plays smart. But not every champ is that overloaded. Not every champ has all those options. Some champs are reliant on things that Yasuo can negate pretty easily and they have little else to fall back on.

Other champs are not. Can Ekko outplay a Yasuo? Oh hell yes. Can Zed? Sure. Even the OP's champ of choice Ahri has a SHOT at it. Not everyone can. Yasuo is designed in such a way that "outplaying" is almost always an option for him (Save maybe against Annie, and we see how much hate SHE gets for being the champ with the least counterplay in the game). Not every champ has the kind of tools Yasuo has. Not every champ can deal with him. And the ones who CAN? Yas can outplay them.

The bias is strong in yas players... and there are probably even a few who aren't just knee-jerk defending him because they like him. Some people play him and honestly feel that he's not an overloaded monster because they don't feel that way. After a death as Yasuo you can usually look back and say "well, shit... if I had used windwall THEN instead of earlier"or "If I had dashed to that minion and flashed". But not everyone can do that.

Imagine for example you're playing Lux and you're against a Yasuo. Lux is a solid midlaner and not really an OP one I'd say. She has ONE easily missed or windwalled skill that she NEEDS to land on him to set up her combo and ANY chance of killing him... and if she goes out too far and he dashes onto her, it is also her only hope of getting away. Yasuo has THREE different things in his kit to reduce her advantages and put the fight between them on HIS terms. His shield to mitigate her poke from her E... his windwall to block her Q,W and E if he needs to, and his dash to avoid skillshots while farming OR to close the distance to her if he wants to go offensive. If he lands a clean knock up on her she's probably dead unless she's sitting under her tower, and if she plays super passively, he's Yasuo and scales absurdly hard so he'll be an unholy terror to deal with before long... probably more than able to tower-dive her squishy butt if the jungler comes to help him.

Now, is Lux assured to lose? No. But he sure as hell has a lot more tools to play around HER than she does to play around HIM. And that is the problem. That is why people hate Yasuo. Because his kit gives him more tools to work with than so many other champions and a lot of ways to outplay them, cockblock their skills or shut them down. When you beat a Yasuo it's usually because that Yas made a mistake. The fight is entirely in his hands. He can punish mistakes hard but he's hard to punish himself. OP or not he is a obnoxiously frustrating champion to fight... in the same camp as people like Fizz, Zed and Ekko.

So shove your arrogance back up your ass where it belongs and stop telling people they're bad because they can't outplay you. Not everyone on here mains the overloaded garbage champs in the game.

Except it perfectly is possible to outplay even good yasuos. Why do you deserve a chance if he plays it out well? Also yasuo doesn't do everything and anything like lee sin or ekko.

Lee is ALSO a problem child, even if he isn't very strong right now. This is the same knee-jerk defense I hear from "every" yas player. "Well so and so is worse!".

You don't get off for murdering your wife if your neighbor killed his wife AND his parents. Two champions can BOTH be obnoxious and overloaded. Ekko is one of the most overloaded, overpowered pieces of crap in the game and the fact that you're even SLIGHTLY comparing your pick to him to say "at least I'm not THAT guy" suggests that even you realize that you're nearish to the top of the "overloaded as hell" charts.

And if you want to make a point about something, don't use the kind of logic that small children use when they're in trouble to defend your point. No Timmy, just because Sarah dumped a full glass of milk on the dog does not mean I forgot about you stealing cookies and lying about it earlier. You're BOTH getting punished.

You did not read the first part?

Look. I don't rankbash but your mentality explains why you've been stuck in silver for 3 seasons now. Because you close your eyes and refuse to see counter play. Your mentality of awing instead of getting gud is what is holding you back. It is possible to play around yasuo and it is not as hard as you say. And how many yasuo playrs are "gods"? They all make mistakes and it's up to you to play around them or abuse them. Also every champion can win against their hard counters when played smart, that's the fucking pint. It's not fucking Rock Paper Scissors but about your skill.

You have yasuo in your name, you might want to change it if you don't want to get downvoted for nothing ust because of your name. People don't like yasuo mains because they fucking suck at playing around kits.

Yeah. Ignore the haters. THe boards think they're the majority, they're not. Reddit is many times bigger than this place.

Your attitude is relatively decent as you aren't trying to nerf yasuo into the shit tier and lulululul to the yasuo mains, but on the other hand your changes are stupid and you refuse to play around his kit.

Yasuo is cancer and we need nerf to bring him down to tumor and more nerf to bring him to normal blood cells
