Finally a good way to lessen AFKers

I just want to address this AFK problem. I recently had to play 2 promos because of losing the first one purely due to AFKers. The first game was questionable whether we could win or not and someone ragequitted. But the 2nd one was purely troll, the duo was flaming bot lane for doing badly but we were extremely far ahead. I was at one point 15 and 3 as Kassadin and they had no chance. The duo purposely AFK to throw the game to spite bot lane.

Similarly even though I won my 2nd promos the only loss I had was AFK jungler who left at lvl1 because he was being forced jungle. What's strange is I only meet these people in promos. perhaps maybe Riot purposely match you with people who AFK often or something.

Anyhow AFKers should lose 3 times the LP and MMR decay. Other teammates LP loss should stay the same though to prevent abuse. I understand if someone AFK in a normal but in a ranked is just ridiculous. I know there are people out there with legitimate connectivity issues, or sometimes you guys get bugsplat/firewall error and can't reconnect. But the majority (90%ish?) AFK I see is either through rage or pure trolling.

Half of the time my internet cuts out I get accused of ragequitting.

How often does this happen to you?

disregardable1 votes

It happened a lot when I was still in my uni's dorm. Like once every 5 games or so. I've lived with my dad over the break, and it's only happened like 3 times. I do get these awful random ping spikes though.

Means he's downloading League R34. Kappa

Were you trying to play ranked while in said dorm?

Ranked and normals. shrug

No offense, but you are one of the people that I hate. Like, I hate you as a person and I haven't even met you. You have about a 20% chance of your internet going out and fucking up the game, yet you still play ranked matches. This is baffles the shit out of me. I really don't understand the logic of some people. I would like to give you the benefit of the doubt and say you are not a business major, but you are making it hard for me to think otherwise.

International politics with a concentration in economics. It doesn't usually take the whole game to fix, just like 10, 15, maybe 20 minutes.

SexyTaylorSwift1 votes

Meh, same thing lol....and 20 minutes of 4v5 completely fucks your team over. Why do you intentionally lose games for your team like that?

Sometimes they do well though. And really, I want that Victorious Morg skin as much as anyone else. I suck too much to actually get one, but I can at least try.

It's an interesting proposal. Main downside is that legitimately DC'd players, say due to an ISP issue or maybe even due to something wrong with Riot's edge network, will be hella pissed about this.

Still, this is closer to workable than almost anything I've heard on the topic.

This is my impression as well.

I honestly don't care about the people with legitimate issues. They are a vocal minority and they should be ignored. It sucks that they can't afford good internet, or they don't know how to maintain their computer, but whatever. If I don't see them in ranked, fine. No loss (literally).

Last I checked, legitimate issues were a huge problem this year. Players connecting from the east coast are experiencing all kinds of packet loss and DCs during peak playing hours. Many firewall errors, login server splats, etc.

Maybe they aren't the majority in your particular area of the player base, but I will tell you that my neck of the woods is very high on what looks like legit issues, relative to ragequits.

yes, but why should i care? their problems negatively affect me. i had a 2v5 for christ's sake. 2 "legitimate issues" and one rage quitter because it was 3v5. If they can't connect, they shouldn't play.

You shouldn't, but you don't set the policy either. Riot does, and they do.

Feels super bad to get punished because of something that isn't your fault, and unhappy players don't buy stuff.

They need to remove LeaverBuster is what they really need to do. They need to acknowledge when any given player's action on a team can no longer be game changing, and allow people to leave the match without consequence. I realize your bane is people leaving the game without consequence, but where are you stuck? You're forced to remain in the game, or else you will be punished for abandoning the match. Is that fair? I certainly don't think it is.

I would honestly rather be able to leave the game at any given time, for a legitimate excuse, then be forced to play on a match that I know i'm going to lose. Riot and the competitive gaming environment need to recognize that as a whole. Under normal moba gaming rules, if your actions are no longer game changing you should not be punishable for them.

This means, intentional feeding. If you played to the best of your ability and the score is 4-41, and buddy doesn't want to surrender the game for whatever reason, yet he doesn't want to participate as a teammate either. You should not be reprimanded for intentionally feeding. Because it no longer has any affect on the outcome of the match.

When your actions no longer have an affect on the outcome of the match, you should be free to leave it without penalty. But the age old question will be...who decides when your actions will no longer affect the outcome of the match? That'll be the new bane. Because you have a vast community of people with little to no judgemental capabilities, including the development and behavioral staff.

Strange to meet them only in promos, as you say, but, at the same time, due to knowing this issue, its not strange at all. Cause you know they'll be there always ready to play the promos with you. Such nice guys.

I afk during my own promos cause im so hard.

The problem with increased LP loss as a punishment is that your progression is really based off your MMR. LP is just window dressing since how much LP you gain or lose from matches depends on your MMR.

So even if you do triple LP loss for an AFK and tank someones LP their MMR is still unaffected so the system will is structured to inflate their LP gains until they get back to where their MMR says they should be.

A lot of league players however dont understand the LP/MMR interaction so maybe this would still serve as an incentive for some folks not to AFK.

Regardless, its pretty sad how little Riot has tried to address this issue. Its pretty much leave buster and thats it, which clearly has not been enough over the last several years. You would think several years would be enough for Riot to at least try or add some other solution but hey its Riot, I've learned to expect little attention to leagues most glaring issues.

That pro scene though. Riot apparently cant give it enough attention, ever.

It won't solve anything. Something important happens like relative died or something? You will get demoted for it because of the LP loss and gl getting back with the MMR loss.

Three times the LP loss will hurt A LOT. What if you lose 15 LP for game (average MMR), and you just worked your ass off to get to 44 LP? You lose 3 times LP and have a hard time climbing it back because of the triple MMR loss. so you are either back at 0 or downright demoted. Just because your relative or friend decided to have an accident during your LoL game.

I think the afk penalties are already too strict. Real life is more important then lol and I don't like riot telling me other wise.

Increasing punishments will just increase the incentive to walk around aimlessly in spawn and then screw over people who actually legit dced.
