Rengar in his current state is kinda unbalanceable
Either he can oneshot people and he is useful, or he can't and he has little to offer to a team, other than jumping in, dealing some damage and getting blown up.
Rengar's been this way for about a year and a half now. I guess its the Boards turn to try and gut rengar now because they can't build defense.

He's really good at getting kills. And that's it. He doesn't have any escape potential, any good cc (bola strike is good for securing kills, not for disrupting abilities in teamfights) and he has a strict long cooldown on his ultimate. Keep in mind he's only able to instakill when he gets super fed. Even then he can only do it to squishy champs. Pick hard cc champs and tanks. Rengar will always go for the squishies first, so be sure to keep near your anybody who needs protection (mage, adc etc.). More advice, before "qqing" on the boards, play as the champion and figure out what his strengths and weaknesses are.

I thought it was just me, the roar when he comes out Literally startles me into inaction. It isn't "oh hey he kills me so quick" (tho yeah that's a problem sometimes)

Honestly you would be amazed at how much impact a level 9 oracles lens does against both rengar and shaco. While they remain immune to autos you can hit the red image with a spell and save yourself the trouble of having to deal with him if he was ccd. It's free and well worth it. With rengar just pop it when you see his mark above your head. His burst however is another story. I feel his snare has too large of a hit box and needs to be more like elises cocoon. Its just too easy to land and when you do its a secure kill unless they have qss. If you don't want to take the risk just try to make sure he is banned out.
Rengar's burst is too fast, everything is instant with almost no animation and his engage range with ult is massive. With both zed and kha'zix comparatively there is more time to counter play with a cc, flash, zhonya's or whatever else, slower animation, more visible engage. A rengar that's even moderately fed can jump from stealth and 100 to 0 a carry in like .25 seconds, which is too fast for most people to even press any buttons.
That is very unhealthy gameplay. Sure, if he gets behind and can't burst he is useless which is why he is not overall OP. He is the worse case of a feast or famine kit in the game now after the Fiora rework, and needs a rework himself.
