Darius Vs Garen

Darius uses mana for doing nothing magical, Garen has no cost for spinning around over 10 times without getting dizzy and slamming a Giant Sword into the ground, his W is a magical barrier that attaches to his rediculous Pauldrons(Pauldrons OP) I understand giving Darius a mana cost is cool and all, but make it energy or something instead. Ive played both Darius and Garen before you ask if I have or not. But wouldn't it make more sense for Darius to use energy or stamina, than Mana, especially since Darius is nowhere close to being a magical being. Unless dunks are magical.

Mana helps gate Darius's Ultimate. If he was resourceless or used energy, he would not be able to recast his ultimate. It's kind of an important ability.

I never thought I'd see the day someone says "Bring Darius to Garen's level.", hell must have just frozen over.

Then they would have to nerf his power. Garen is also suppose to be his counter if you will. Counters out his passive bleeding effect with his healing.

Its not about countering, its just understanding why he uses Mana when hes not even magical, it doesnt even have to be brought into the game, its just dumb lol

No unfortunately, the problem here is that it is you that are dumb. The simple fact that you think Mana holds Darius back from reaching some mysterious full potential shows how much you don't understand.

Darius must be limited by Mana. That is what allows him to have his strength. It isn't about what makes or doesn't make sense. Champions that use do not use Mana are meant to be powerful from the get go; this is their advantage for being manaless. Mana users are forced to manage their resource in the early game because as they gain levels, Mana becomes less and less of a problem thus making them more powerful by removing that which gates them. Non-mana users on the other hand do not get increase in resource, so they hit their limit much sooner. One of the primary ways you counter a Mana user is by letting them use up their Mana. This becomes increasingly difficult as the game goes on because the pool just increases and if you had no other way to beat them, you're pretty screwed. Energy users run out all the time, they recover quick, sure, but in the lategame when fights can be dragged out and you need a couple of spell rotations that energy regen is suddenly going to seem like an eternity.

That is the key concept you fail to understand. Whether or not dunks are fucking magical doesn't matter.

Spoiler alert - The original post is downvoted for a reason, I'll give you a hint; It's the one I said.

Oh wait... it wasn't just me! Would you look at that, there's another reply by the admirable CaptainWednesday who said what?

Mana helps gate Darius's Ultimate.

Wow... Mana gating. Who would've thunk it. Oh look, he's been upvoted! I wonder why that is? Could it be that he has a point? One that you completely missed? One that I explained to you in detail? One that you chose to ignore?

Either way, you still don't get it. His kit is meant to be Mana gated. Sure, Darius and Garen share similarities but at the end of the day they have different systems in place to keep them balanced. This is going to stay true, whether you like it or not and like I said, it doesn't matter what does or doesn't make sense. They have different power curves; they fill different niches; as such, they are balanced differently. Wouldn't you know it, one of the levers in place for balance that differentiates them happens to be... Mana.

In the words of another upvoted reply by the honorable Pyrobob4:

Dunks are fuckin magical, whats your problem?

So I am gonna have to agree with Omnipherious here. Darius is gated by mana because it gates him from being able to spam abilities for days. I don't even want to think about what laning against a manaless Darius or I might have nightmares. Thats why by default darius would have to do less damage overall with his abilities. meaning if you wanted to have him do as much damage as he does now, then you couldn't go as tanky.

In this game you can't think of mana as a magical thing. Otherwise it doesnt make sense on like... every adc that has mana.... In this game mana is a resource that gates spamming in the early game. Think about how it would feel to lane against any champion with mana if they could just spam instead and maybe it will make more sense. (A syndra who can unlimited spam balls, a caitlyn who spams peacemaker, a GP with unlimited Qs and oranges, a jayce with unlimited shock blasts)

I've read a few threads that Omnipherious has been on today and although he seems mad, the points he brings up are basically all valid. The guy is really knowledgable about the game so just take what he says with a grain of salt and dont pay attention to the tone if it bothers you.

In fact I dont know if he's always angry or if you can blam this post here for pissing him off: http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/site-feedback/vRuMEkOF-riot-is-intentionally-causing-problems-for-general-discussion-forums-to-force-us-to-use-boards Because even I was kinda mad after reading that.

No he probably does get angry over everything, and though he may be right, never said he was wrong, he didn't read my post correctly, so he thought I meant something else, so he got angry over that and started rage-toning his words. Then because I told him to "settle down" he continued to get increasingly butt-clenched, in fact, right now, if he were to take a dump, it'd be like a pepper grinder for his poo-poo. I'm actually a really nice person, but community members like Omni who continue to point valid thoughts and are never told be wrong, are why we have toxic people, toxic people never think wrongly, never do wrongly, but you do, everyone else does things wrongly except them.

welp, that'll teach me for trying to clarify someones angry post. Was just trying to be helpful man.

anyways, reading your post below about the change of name I actually think mana is a decent name for it.

Researching the word a bit, its roots are mostly from polynesian culture. The word generally refers to status almost, as a person must gain presige through something like warfare in order to gain mana.

Saying that someone brought a lot of mana to a region is like saying someone brought prestige to a region. Although often confused with MP or Magic power in games to fulfill the same function, it really isnt something that is expended for magic. its more of something that you can gain by performing actions.

Not really relevant but I thought it was cool so I thought I would share.

I didn't read past them, I read them, I chose not to Upvote or Downvote, because it proves nothing, I'm saying you guys can't read properly because you're taking it way too serious, I'm saying it is DUMB, to call it MANA, instead of STAMINA, or ENERGY. So please, make yourself look more idiotic than you already are by trying to correct something I intentionally said but you misread it cause you can't read. Continue please on your anger posts.

Runeterra is a world literally filled with magic. Magic permeates everything. Lee Sin is a perfect example. He uses energy, and has plenty of magic like abilities. Not every martial artist can gain remote vision of a target.

Besides, Darius can pull Malphite, Nautilus, and three other champions over a wall without breaking a sweat. If that's not magic what is?

The trees and walls were never there.

redniwediS1 votes

Then ignore the wall part, pulling them is a feat in and of itself.

Okay, final try.

Look at the way Mana works and think about real human energy / stamina.

Champions use Mana to do things, you use to much you will run out and be no longer able to use anything. A human being can get into a soccer/basketball/<insert sport> and run/jump/kick/etc. If a human being exerts themselves too much, they wil become fatigued and regardless of their fitness level, become less effective (muscle pain, cramps, hunger, etc). This is exactly the same as how Mana works in League. When a marathon runner paces themselves so that they don't tire out too quickly, it is the same as Mana management. Why do they do this? So that they still have some reserves for the burst at the finish, just like how Mana users in League can manage Mana in lane and wait for the right opportunity to unleash a barrage of abilities. If you use up all your Mana at once, you are forced to wait for it to be replenished; potions take the place of food/drink while returning to the fountain essentially takes the place of rest/sleep. Once again, how do you not see this? Why are you even refuting it?

The alternative resources to Mana are so unnatural in the real world. Who in the world has never ending Stamina like Garen while simultaneously being restricted to a finite number of actions due to time? There are no humans that have energy which regenerates like the Ninjas or Lee Sin. If we had a robot that had its own renewable energy source (e.g. solar power), that would be the closest we could get to a direct comparison because said robot could theoretically expend vasts amounts of its energy and regain it relatively quickly; this is of course as compared to human fatigue and recovery.

Your argument is flawed because you want this make sense when in fact Mana is the closest comparison to making sense. I'm not even attempting to be really hostile towards you, you simply refuse to face facts; it doesn't matter what does and doesn't make sense OR if dunks are magical. You are entitled to your opinion but when you blatantly ignore a bunch of people that explain and the others who didn't even see value to post because they flat out disagree, you need to at least reexamine your stance.
