Would be nice if oriana wasn't meta all the time

I don't understand why she hasn't been addressed, clearly she is very strong as she is consistently In pro play, remember when it was always Viktor or Ori? The touched on him left her alone.

Always have games where people complain about ori's damage and spam. It's so boring having to see her often just as we dislike Lee and Graves.

She isn't always meta from my experience.

MysticFlameHaze1 votes

Well she's not a necessary pick but she's never really not around and I see her far too often.

Don't compare Orianna to Lee Sin and Graves. She's nowhere near as popular nor is she as oppressive.

MysticFlameHaze1 votes

Not as oppressive as those two but she's the second most played mid laner and close to Graves in play rate so you're not completely right there. Orianna is very popular. 16% play rate. Graves 18%

HalcyonDweller1 votes

OK, that is my mistake.

However I still do not think that play rate is a valid reason for nerfs. If they are too strong then that would be a reason to nerf them, but if a champion has a high play rate because of them being fun then other champions need to be brought up to their level.

That's my point though, I find her damage to reliable and strong, similar case with ahri, the first few points with her wasn't her damage bring too strong, was her play rate and steady win rate. Which just lead everyone in the boards as usual jumping on train

Ah ok. When your post didn't say anything about her kit or its reliability, I thought you were making an argument based solely on pick-rate.

similar case with ahri, the first few points with her wasn't her damage bring too strong, was her play rate and steady win rate. Which just lead everyone in the boards as usual jumping on train

It's her reliability that leads to the play rate and steady win rate. The reliability is a problem with her kit, which is why Riot is nerfing it. Riot isn't just nerfing her because of her play-rate being high.

Yeah I know that's my bad but can't the same be said for orianna then?

HalcyonDweller2 votes

That depends, and it is exactly what we should be discussing :)

[slayer-jinx-catface]

Which parts of her kit are too reliable, and how?

I'm down to analyze it and discuss if you are!

Okay so

  1. As another person up above brought up this point at level she has a nice advantage against most lane opponents in the fact that her shield is strong enough to block most of another champs level 1 spell and with that her passive is a strange why does a champ like orianna who is supposed to have Windows of weakness when her Q is on cooldown by having something that compensates by increasing her auto attack damage to a very good amount? Early levels it is easy damage with thunderlords.

  2. I know many say her Q is a low cooldown because she would need it to position her ball for the W, but the fact that it becomes close to 2 second cooldown at max rank and your average build of CDR it's very frustrating to find an opening depending on your champ. I believe mid game it should be a longer cooldown so it isn't as forgiving to quickly move it into the right position after you missed it.

  3. Her W I understand the damage it needs to give off and it has a fair cooldown, I am unsure but it seems to sometimes have the scenario of doing the damage to you before the animation has actually reached you when an Orianna lands her W at max range, similar to the case where Annie's W was stunning you before it actually hit or Kassadin's fixed E where it dealt the damage before the wave actually hit you.

  4. Her E grants too much for being an AP mid, it is up there in base strength at max rank compared to supports who are supposed to have strong Shields to assist their allies, yet orianna will do something similar in defending her teammates she is a burst mage and should not have similar protection to what a support is supposed to be doing, Lulu shield nerf down to 210 from 240, orianna shield is 240 max rank. More so when the ball is on her she gets 30 bonus resistance max rank as well.

So that would be a shield as strong or stronger than a supports as they don't build as much AP as she would, free resistance and small damage. Karma has also been used as a support and mid can put out damage close to but not the same as Ori but her shield is 190 base at and 210 when casted with her ult.

That's all I can think of right now. Basically my opinion of her Kit, I have a little more I can add on to her W utility but that's a bit alright with me.

That's a great point, I don't know why they let her have such a powerful shield early on, it's definitely unfair for opponents to not even have any chance against her in a lvl 1 trade.

\2. I know many say her Q is a low cooldown because she would need it to position her ball for the W, but the fact that it becomes close to 2 second cooldown at max rank and your average build of CDR it's very frustrating to find an opening depending on your champ. I see what you mean, I honestly think she and Azir kind of have the same problem with this. Their re-position ability is used for it's high damage and poke rather than its intended purpose. It might too forgiving to Oriana players who make mistakes.

I personally think she would be more balanced if her damage couldn't come from nowhere, like if she had to kite and apply multiple instances of damage. Maybe they could gate her abilities so they do more if the enemy has been affected by other abilities previously, kind of like her passive giving her auto-attacks wind-up power.

This is possible, it might be a bug, or an unintended or outdated function of the code. Definitely would be good if Riot looked into it.

\4. Orianna is sort of an enchanter, having the ball equip to allies and all that. But I agree if she gets such a strong shield then her burst should be lower.

I play a lot of Orianna. I think a little power could be taken off of her level 1 E. It grants a shield and armor/MR. Combine that with her passive AA steroid and thunderlords means she wins almost any level 1 trade.

Beyond that, I think she is in a great spot.

MysticFlameHaze1 votes

I actually completely agree with that, have had that and seen it happen multiple times

Was she even popular s6 and s5?

Season 6 yes, if I remember correctly I think season 5 was Viktor azir and orianna

She's never a contested pick, but there's never a meta where she can't hold her ground against the top picks.

KoKoboto1 votes

I think she has too much utility for her burst and lane control she has early.

MysticFlameHaze1 votes

Her utility is a bit annoying but yeah a bit at level 6 or so she becomes difficult to fight

LadyRenly1 votes

being "never bad" is a bad thing? I think that shows that she is balanced and in a decent spot if she's never terrible, because I've never really seen her as "top tier" or P/B

In contrast to champs like Malz who become p/b then gutted, I appreciate this consistency.
