I still don't understand Items

Hi,

I still don't get items or how to build items on a champion. Also, I don't know how people melt health bars the way I've seen some do. I usually main support, so is there anything I should be doing as a support better in my item builds? I don't build much damage. To be honest, I never build damage at all.

But I'm trying to go into top lane or any other role, but I never know how to build a champion because most supports can get away with building the same starter item, a pair of boots, and then a sight stone.

I need some dialogue on this.

It honestly depends on the champion and the match-up. Generally speaking you wanna itemise against your enemy laner and the jungler, if possible, and then consider the rest of the team while also building damage/utility/general tankiness.

The first thing I recommend to a player going into new roles is to start with a simple champion, a champion whose kit isn't hard to get or follow, champions like warwick, garen, annie, master yi and a bunch of other really straight forward champion so you can learn the gist of the role and then move to the gist of the specific champion rather to struggle to learn both gist at the same time. This way is a tad easier to determinate mistakes and you can improve a tad faster.

As for items it really depends on the champion you want to pick up, top normally is run down by ad bruiser (around 70% of the champions played top regularly are ad bruisers) so normally what you get is some defense (armor/hp) item first and then some attack item (if you think you will tie or lose lane) or rush the attack item first and then the defensive one (if you plan to stop your lane). What item to get first, what item rush depends on the champion you are playing and the match up you are against, so cookie build are really a bad idea.
