Pls nerf this tank with dmg, pls just stop that he has no counters, hes bad in laning phase but its completely ignored when the mid and late game come, he just has so much dmg, you cnat trade because he gets the hp, and when you focus him and kill him, its ignored because the enemy can now kill you, i get it LCS is more important but do something for your casual players, please

I voted "No he's not balanced" because he's underpowered in lategame and he simply doesn't chunk like a Juggernaut's supposed to.

Darius Illaoi Nasus They get on top of you, it's bare seconds till you're minced meat and your team's not far behind. Garen just can't do that and he has no in-combat sustain either.

Ok sure but why1 votes

You can never balance a training-wheels champ

Y'know, there's a reason why he's NEVER picked at all in competitive scenes. And that still highly relates in soloQ, unlike Ryze.

Garen as a champion has many problems.

His gap closer is just extra movement speed, and a silence. Sure, you could make the excuse that since it's an auto attack as well you can use glacial augment and frozen mallet to make it hard to get away from him, but really there's a lot that can go wrong before he even hits you.

If your champion has any form of reliable cc, he won't be able to get to you. Even slows can keep Garen from getting to his target. Garen can't just run into the back line. Most successful Garens have to hide in a bush to surprise an enemy - no one wants to be up close and personal with a Garen, so you can't just walk up to them.

Maybe his damage could be toned down a bit, but most people that have problems with him just underestimate him and don't play around him, like you have to do with virtually every champion in the game. Not to mention that CC is usually more important than damage in a teamfight. Unless Garen is instantly deleting every damage source immediately at the beginning of a fight, it's not that big of a problem. If you don't have a way to keep him away from you before he kills you, that's called "Counter-play."

Really, you can't say anything about Garen that you couldn't say about any other tank. In fact, he's probably one of the worst tanks in the game, just because he has no real hard cc. That silence will do nothing to stop Jinx from punching holes in your back line, should they be too slow to get away from her.

Run me through a scenario you believe exists in which he is unbeatable versus X champion of your choice. Garen doesn't really feel too "weak" or too "strong" against most champions in my experience. The villainy passive gives him some leeway with people that are ahead. If he can get on top of them; his healing passive that gives him insane 50% or lower regen is extremely nice for trading with lanes like Jayce, Teemo, and Gnar. Who have range on him and escapes. (I count as extra speed for Jayce and Teemo as "escapes")

Garen can be kited extremely easy unfortunately for him, most champions that are played into him from my experience have the mobility/CC to deal with Garen's only tactic which is charging straight at you- as someone pointed out the most viable strategy is often sitting in a bush so you can utilize your entire kit. Garen's persona seems to be all around all ins and running in and out. I enjoy him as a champion personally but find him to be pretty balanced, or even deserving of a buff.

The Villainy mechanic is a waste of time for the first half of the game. 90% of my games have the ADC as the villain during the laning phase. That has no bearing on my opponent in top. And if my top opponent is kicking my butt, he will never become the Villain since kills against Garen do not count towards who is decided as the Villain.

It's an unreliable mechanic aside from the occasional situation where you happen to get close to the Villain as a team fight is dispersing.
