Is muting chat ok?

Jungle was the one role I thought I'd never touch as it seemed so complicated and I was never good at it when autofilled. But, after a handful of games I fell in LOVE with this role and I want it to be my secondary role next to support once I'm better at it.

Thing is, I've heard junglers get a lot of flame when it's unjustified/undeserved and its the main reason Im nervous to play the role now. So my question is, is it ok/recommended to mute chat while playing jungler? Is there any information that could be missed that can't be communicated with pings? Would it put my team at a disadvantage if I muted? I feel like it'd relieve a lot of stress if I don't focus on what people are saying, making me play better. I won't ever mute pings, even if they're spammed as it's not as bothersome, only chat worries me.

You should mute chat in literally every game no matter what.

Chat offers NOTHING of strategic value, and will only ever negatively impact your games. Its useless, turn it off.

I usually 99% of the time mute chat unless im playing with people. I dont mute pings though because they can still be valuable information, but yes mute chat is a good thing.

It's absolutely okay! There's even an option in the settings to turn chat off by default now.

Tbh I wish there was an option that would allow players to disable the in-game chat in their settings, that way they wouldn't have to constantly mute everyone from the start. Either way, the chat is useless. If you mute people they can still see what you type, meanwhile you can't see what they type. And if we're being honest most people communicate through pings anyway. That said people mainly use the chat for flaming.

Getting flamed sucks, and it is really easy to just go in to a defensive mode and not listen to anything. But what that person may be flaming MAY being the keyword may actually have some substance to it. You could actually be making a mistake but because these people are toxic cry babies instead of constructive criticism they just flame. So try to take it their criticism to your advantage then mute them.

I mostly go into muting chat on the off chance i either forget or test the waters i end up regretting it. At least in my elo they almost never have anything useful to say.
