How to bring tanks back?

Legit question, I have no idea.

In my mind, purpose of tanks is to a) soak up as much dmg as they can(that's reason why Mundo is simply tank for me, he doesn't make you focus him bcs of taunts and ccs, but by running at your adc and murdering him)and b) providing engage/cc. In this meta it will result into blowing up in 3 secs when focus by 5 ppl(is it bad thing?).

Sure I read all of the cryposts about nerfing conq, pens, overall dmg, buffing tankiness, reverting runes etc.

So what's right step?

Should be tanks able to 1v1 their opponent? In lane? Midgame? Late?

Should the pure tanks(cc bots/vanguards or wardens if you want) be able to be unkillable at some point of the game? To what point? In what point? Surviving 1v5 for how long?

I'm really disconnected from this class, I'm also really biased, it gives me ptsd just to look at mao/malp and think of times when they just sat in lane for 30 mins, unable to do anything(sure, roaming and stuff, but you know what I mean).

Will anyone expect proscene play tanks when they will do no dmg? Relying on your team doesn't sound like smart strat to have in soloQ.

Buffing tanks items will just lead to abusing them by other classes.

Nerfing conq/pens without looking into tanks dmg will be unhealthy for the game imo.

Facing tank that is unkillable, but does near to zero dmg is annoying, but right, right?

Facing Cho(hell even Ornn and others) that is unkallable, kiteable(with flash/Righteous Glory/Frozen mallet not that much), oneshoting squishy isn't ok, right?

Any top tank players left here? Any opinions on topic, despite I hate tanks, they should be playable(are they really unplayable? winrates ok(poor Mundo), played mainly by otps, idk, I'm just bsed, but they feel ok).

Riot will never-ever bring back anything remotely tank related because the wide majority of players these days are Call of Duty fanboys that just want to see fights, damage and year long stuns that relate to 20 min stomps.

IDK if you care much about the pro scene or not but since this new type of league/meta I've seen more 3-0's and boring(40+kills/ how can that be boring?// clown fiestas) games in my life.

Riot also want the NA LCS to be decent on the international stage and the only way to do so is to cut out many of the Koreans/Asian teams strengths and that's the late game, since many teams tend to play smart and safe for the first 15 or so mins.

I'm a tank player at heart and honestly the only tank items I buy these days are

item 3193 - Since league is around that 40+ kills per game league and fight 24/7 it helps. + It doesn't really give HP since many champions and items these days have HP% damage(The more HP you have the more damage they'll do) so that's a good item to have.

item 3800 - Pop it and once in a fight pop Gargoyle.

item 3107 - using all 3 in a teamfight are the only viable option these days in my opinion.

There are great tank items but many have so much HP that it's actually just horrible to buy these days - vs item 3153 item 3151 and champions with %hp damage.

Even the masteries/runes are nothing but "vs Champions" "champion kills" etc for more damage -

IDK about winrates because winrates can be a bit deceiving but for the most part you just gotta play damage dealers in league these days.

Tanks are decent late game but games don't go late game for you to be able to peel, engage etc, especially since so many tanks are countered by range, poke tops now.. so it really just sucks being behind already but also to give up on lane phase.

Not a fan of league ATM because I loved being a tank(FULL TANK) not 3-4 damage items and 1 tank item NO! I'd be lucky to do 9k damage in an hour long game because I prided myself to be the biggest M.F for my team.

Nerf the rampant anti tank garbage in the game so armor is actually a stat again.

I'd love to play a tank, but playing a team oriented champ in soloQ is begging riot to match you with 4 monkeys that don't know what team play is. Especially as a jungler, playing a tank invites the enemy jungler to play a carry jungler that can clear their entire side before you are even done with your second camp, then force your teammates into a rage quit by making them say "GG shit jungler" at the 4 min mark.

I'm gonna be a bit hashinshin here but...

Tanks are boring to play, boring to watch.

No one wants to play Tanks.

 

As Moody P said, most tanks aren't even "bad".

I may only be Gold but I've seen many Tanks succeed and win games.

Mundo, Shen, Volibear, Rammus, Amumu, Leona, Nautilus, Blitzcrank, Sejuani, Malphite all see success in Gold.

Tank players: We just simply don't want to die. If ADC gets to kite me with 10/0 score and I'm at 0/5. I should still be able to tank and kill him/her.

Cost Efficient items.

item 3001 3000 > 2800 item 3075 2900 > 2750 item 3742 - 425/60 > 500/70

etc.

Tanks cannot get their items quick enough and at the same time CDR items are not as abundant as let's say item 3161 item 3078 item 3812

I think one of two things should happen. Option one would be to remove damage from non-abilities that aren't based on offensive stats. For example, the true damage conversion and healing of conqueror should exist, but the 8% base and stat increases should not and in exchange the 8% should start at 0% and scale based on offensive stats. The other option would be to give tanks things that make them threatening other than "I will do more damage to you than you will do to me.".

As someone that use to play tanks, I pretty much don't play League anymore, but I come back to see what's new or new reworks to see if they spark my interest.

I just wanted to throw out that via u.gg currenlty no tanks in top have under a 49% win rate and only a couple have under 50%. I think this is a perception issue not reality. Tanks are statistically performing fine except for pro play, people just want season 5 tanks that can solo carry in low elo and it's not gonna happen.

By making item 3071 less effective against non-tanks....

If a Zed is gonna buy black cleaver anyway and faceroll over squishy champs with +400 hp, whats the point in playing a tank and "forcing" him to build it to "counter build" you

Well, most Tanks drain all of their mana after using 4 abilities. Meanwhile Aatrox can spam all of his abilities while healing all of his health back. Same with Renekton. Tanks lack the sustain to deal with the best meta champions in top lane and their items dont actually make them that tanky anymore.

Then you got champions like Darius who can kill a full tank with one combo and 2 auto attacks.

Tanks just cant tank that well simply put. Riot seems to compensate some tanks by giving them more damage and that is a terrible way of attempting to buff tanks.

Tanks only need survivability, a little more early game sustain, less damage to champions, CC, and good damage to minions/monsters.

Right now, they have less survivability than riven and irelia, way less mobility, less sustain, equal CC, and no damage at all in comparison.

1 lower damage 2 lower % hp damage 3 give tanks the option for actual late game items with good stats and not passives that work against each other like cold steel on or with thornmail even if they have to cost more than infinity edge maybe something that gives enemies 20% attack speed versus you for 20% less auto damage (no on hit effects or spells just the auto part)
