"Ekko is a skirmishing assassin who 'lacks the raw power to burst his targets down"

Totalis··87 votes·7,126 views

ha! HA! Just played a game with an ekko who had 100 cs at 20 minutes, at the end was 1/10/7, and this dude took half of my adc's hp with a single spell, it didn't even matter which one!

Last time they said they were making an assassin that didn't burst was Fizz This is why I don't trust Rito

No offense but assasins are supposed to burst.

Jeddy01716 votes

Yeah. The words "assassins" & "burst" & "DON'T" doesn't work in the same sentence.

Well the person you should be saying this to is Riot here. They're the ones who said he didn't.

ASSASSINS like to BURST down enemies, so DON'T approach them.

There, it works.

Jeddy0173 votes

Point is: Calling something an assassin then going on to say it lacks burst is questionable when you consider the job of an assassin. An assassin needs burst to do it's job or else it's a fighter or mage.

The sad part is that when Riot made good on what they said about Fizz by shifting his design to be "more damage by staying in your face rather than upfront burst" he was declared broken then, too. I'm thinking people just don't like Fizz regardless of what Riot does or says about him. His mobility at least made sense in the context of a fighter, what with his entire kit looking like it was outright designed for high mobility and being in their face fairly often.

That said, before he was turned back into a burst assassin, he could have used his numbers toned down a little and I think most people would've been fine with him. Other than, y'know, people that just plain hate Fizz' existence in the first place. But they're going to hate him no matter what, so it's not like you need to base anything around their opinion, just like no one should base any ideas about Kalista on my opinion of her. My idea being outright deletion.

DJ Rand2 votes

You're right.

Here's my reasoning behind agreeing:

Fizz can be untargettable 3 times in a span of six seconds (two Es + hourglass). On top of having a dash that doesn't stop at the opponent but instead passes right through them, allowing him to use an enemy/minion/etc as an object to propel himself away from danger if they're right on top of him.

You basically have to wait for him to use his full combo + hourglass + use another one or two abilities, before you can retaliate. That 'slippery' style can be very frustrating to play against.

Tbh saco can't really burst anyone. His damage comes from AA

q crit + backstab + e + shiv + hydra if they arent dead you're behind

Splininka16 votes

Or maybe if they aren't dead you should have been behind!

Gotta get that 20% bonus damage.

Zair Umbras5 votes

That's what the Backstab is there for, to signify he was behind them. Backstab is the passive's name.

Splininka13 votes

Dang. That's what I get for trying to be clever. Good catch.

10/10 tho

Panwar2 votes

Lol. I was wondering if anyone else remembered that. He was supposed to be an in and out assassin that did high dps, but wasn't bursty. When I saw them say that about Ekko I was thinking. Oh ho, here we go again.

insaiyanbacca1 votes

well the only reason i could think they would say he lacked burst is if he had less burst then most assassins but he doesnt so idk

Reaper Soraka18 votes

The whole concept of an assassin without burst damage eludes me. "non-burst" and "assassin" just don't combine, since assassins require burst to assassinate high-priority targets. The idea of an "assassin" in league of legends was to go in, kill a high priority target (such as ADC, other AP carry, or support.) then get out. Either the title "assassin" or the "non-burst damage" must be dropped from the idea for it to make any sense.

How could a non-burst "assassin" work? Isn't it just a mage or bruiser at that point, like Ryze, Brand or Darius?

Martyrofsand12 votes

How about a champion with a lot of mobility who depends on making several passes in order to kill someone. IE someone who comes in, does their damage putting you around 60% HP and then got out, and then they come back putting you at 20% HP and then got out, and then come back and kill you, and then got out.

Maybe not exact numbers but you know how about an assassin that gives you a chance to make strategic decisions instead of one who just appears, kills you before you can respond and is instantly gone spamming /laugh.

Having crazy mobility should cost you damage as it should be a requirement that you USE that mobility to get into and out of fights over the course of a long fight to kill your target, not that you get to instantly delete people while coming and going as you please.

SFHFWill2 votes

Sounds good but that's not an assassin. That's a duelist. Also Ekko has stupid amounts of burst. So he's not what you described.

That's the problem. Ekko doesn't have a lot of damage. He gets most of his damage from Luden's Echo and Lich Bane, not from his actual kit. Riot is right on the money here, if Ekko had to rely on his passive, W and ultimate to get kills he'd be a CC bot stuck as a support thanks to that huge AOE stun, but he's not. Itemization is that screwed up right now.

Finally someone that realizes that damage from an item isn't a champion's fault. It's the item's fault.

No matter what the community says, it's always the champion's fault. . . . Until it isn't.

If buying a few items are causing such a major issue, however, it suggests that maybe how he scales off the items should be looked at (in other words- his ratios).

Gavran1 votes

Except it isn't his ratios, it's the item's ratios and his kits synergy with the items.

Also he's fine but that's a whole other thing.

Partholonian1 votes

As for the item's ratios, a item 3285 nerf is on the PBE -- which will affect not only him, but Ahri Leblanc Katarina and other mobility spamming AP champions too.

Martyrofsand4 votes

That would explain why an Ekko with Sorc Shoes and Dorans took me from 100-0 with just his kit, I was Thresh, because Ludens and Lich Bane where totally to blame.

The items exacerbate his damage but they are not at fault for him having far more damage on his own than he should for the amount of mobility he possesses. Sadly he isn't alone in this, Zed/Yasuo/Ekko/Leblanc/etc all with way to much damage for how mobile they are.

SFHFWill3 votes

Ekko has a crap ton of damage. I saw an Ekko 1 shot an ADC. By one shot I mean literally ONE SHOT our ADC late game. He flashed and hit R and Ashe died. Just 1 button.

Steelflame4 votes

Ehh.... That means Ashe was on his clone. As there is no way Ekko can reliably hit it on someone by flashing on them...

Riot: Diana was a huge mistake, a mix between a fighter and an assassin.

Riot: Now, we present Diana 2.0

Like any tank can't do the same with no damage built

well, most adc's take a lot of damage if they have no defense built

allthemuslims4 votes

Half of Ekko's E damage is literally from a Lich Bane proc. His assassination combo is literally like a less damaging, slower skillshot reliant Diana who needs to break her dash into 2 parts.

Auz the Ripper1 votes

I'd say he plays more like pre-rework Fizz because of The CC, damage, and "get out of jail free" card

Aych Pii1 votes

"get out of jail assuming you haven't been there longer than four seconds and are willing to blow your ult+most of your burst to hard disengage and probably limit your ability to participate in the rest of the fight" card.

Meanwhile, Fizz has both AoE burst and a strong slow attached to his untargetability, plus the ability to just use it to dodge shit and the re-engage as part of the same use. All on a 10 second cooldown.

And his OP kits make a champion like Lux looks so UP...

Aych Pii1 votes

No way he's taking two thirds of someone's health with the .2 ratio on E unless he's got a lichbane, too. And hey, everyone has access to lichbane burst. It's even possible he had a luden's echo there, too.

(Also, that was only about half her health, and keep in mind E is the only guaranteed damage in his entire kit.)

I just went in on an ekko, had him down below 100 health, ignited him, only for him to ult and come out unscathed.

Strawberrycocoa3 votes

I guess compared to Zed or LB bursting you dead before you can even react, Fizz and Ekko don't "burst".

Although I bursted someone 100-dead before they could react as non assassins too (Annie, Brand), so it's not just one role.

Vekkna5 votes

Yeah, Fizz takes a whole 2 seconds longer to kill you than LeBlanc. He just happens to be invincible for all of those 2 seconds. Therefore not bursty.

DJ Hatsune Miku1 votes

What happened to "light-fighter" since skirmishing assassin sounds like Flora and Yasuo... Ya know... Melee adcs lol

Ariel the Cruel2 votes

That's basically how he plays. Except AP.
