Garen

I don't understand why he's not a competitve pick. I mean I know why but at the same time if you think about his kit, it makes understanding why very hard.

His old kit sure was easy to identfy why, but now day? Buffed Q, more spins, armor shred, hp regen, exicute, no mana, built in shield and resistances. Built in movement speed and cc removal. Built in silence. Good team fighter, engage, disengage, frontline diver tank.

I mean when you mention all the things hee has going, its hard to see why he's not played in LCS and other tournys. Which is why, I made this post. Is garen really not competitive or are we just thinking about his build wrong that's stopping him? I know he doesn't have much room to out play others just himself but Honestly he's just naturally strong without the plays. Which brings up the question do you need an out play mechanic to be competitve if your champion (garen) is Strong without 1, which he is strong with out. Granted some will call his Q an out play or w timing. But could it be something as simple as the correct build path simply not being discovered yet or a Rune set up that has yet to be tried? I know the most common are Conq or Grasp.

When you think about it then the strongest high elo picks arent those that are really strongest but those who are the strongest of those that arent easy to deal with via teamplay and are good in teamplay. So you basically delete all primitive champions that are easy to deal with via coordination or something like this and after that you choose the strongest and most broken picks that have to also suit their preferences from leftovers. + there is that factor that champions are simply stronger in right hands in comparison to other champions and that some of them doesnt fit into team comp and playstyle that whole team require or is simply better than 5 overpowered picks. Right teamcomp of 5 mediocre picks can be better than teamcomp of 5 overpowered picks if you know that I mean.

He offers almost nothing. Everything he has is melee range and he has only a 3.5 second 30% movement speed steroid as a gap closer. His only CC is 1.5 second silence. Which are all contributing factors, but the real reason is because top lane is the worst carry lane, and because of this pro teams want to spend the most minimal amount of time on top lane possible.

We pray that he never becomes a professional competitive pick, lest he be shortly nerfed to actual oblivion.

He had his day in pro last season, and we can be satisfied with that for a long time, until Riot breaks their game again.
