Why is Ryze weak?

Forget the champion.gg stats for a minute. What about Ryze makes him weak?

Actually even looking at the Champion.gg stats, he has an overall winrate of 44%, but if you extend that out to look at people with experience on the champion who actually get how to play him, and have taken the time to figure him out as far as team play goes, you see his win rate jumps to 51.5% and 53% respectively.

So he's not weak at all, you just have to put in the time to figure him out, which I assume is exactly what you were getting at.

See, but here's the thing. I've played Ryze occasionally in normals, but haven't practiced him nearly as much, and I've seen first-hand how powerful he is. His damage is nothing short of fucking staggering, I can't think of another mage I've used who can melt teams so well once he has enough of his items.

Well there in is the thing. He's a high skill cap champion, some people have a natural affinity for some champions, or an easier time learning them. It's just more common that people need to put in quite a few games to really figure out how to play a champion well.

what makes him weak is he has a short 2 seconds late and early between spell cast where he can only auto whoch usually gets him killed super fast.
hes weakish early and you can obviously see this by him not being played anymore in professional play.

Ryze's high skillcap and super complicated mechanics are so hard that he got negative win rate

true even pros dont play him.

He's fallen to 44% because everyone got lazy into putting effort of timing his passive/permasnare right in such a small window. Back when he was pre-nerfed, his passive stayed almost 5x longer than a Morg's Q.

The problem with ryze is that they nerfed him so hard that he too hard to play effectively.

Check out my post explaining Ryze http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/oRhBxn5B-why-ryze-is-both-underpowered-and-broken-and-how-it-can-be-fixed

He's high skill cap now, along with extremely stark weakness that can be abused by a fair number of champions.

Hes got bad match ups in top lane and mid lane is pretty mediocre for him as well.
