Why does Ekko, a mobile high damage assassin, has one of the highest base health regen?

Health Regen: 9 at (lv 1) - 24.3 (lv 18) ranking at the 7th highest base hp/5 at level 1, and 5th at level 18. Ekko has already more than decent laning phase, being able to easily engage ranged champions, dodge stuff, potentially mitigate some and waveclear. his weaknesses are being weak when his spells are on cooldown, being poked, but these are mostly mitigated by using his mentioned above strenghts. abnormally high health regen seems to not be in line with his being poked weakness

Survivability is his trademark, as indicated by his shield and ultimate, which are both easily avoidable for opponents. He isn't a 100 - 0 burst assassin as others are, which is a HUGE flaw, but gains survivability in return.

But he can 100-0 pretty decently, while doing so with more safety than most assassins

Because he'd easily get repeatedly poked out of lane in certain matchups if he didn't have it. He can't do dick about it if a ranged champion decides to auto him every single time he goes to last-hit.

he can't do dick except set up his W or EQ onto them for a trade

ekko has far more options than most melees against a ranged opponent

That's one trade. Meanwhile the opponent will be constantly autoing you for free with no cooldowns. On top of that it's extremely telegraphed when Ekko is trying to go for a trade, so you can often just back off until his W gets wasted during the laning phase.

I wonder why Zed, Talon, Katarina and Fizz have normal health regen. both are melee and supposed to be poked when against mages. this is why they have high mobility and poke themselves. Ekko should not be an exception.

Zed is resourceless and his passive makes him capable of being far less predictable with last-hitting. He can farm with spells forever with no trouble. Katarina is also resourceless and has high uptime on her instant blink. Talon and Fizz both are known for having shitty laning phases.

I know right? He basically has a free warmogs

Nerf it. Only tanky melees need to have high HP regen. Gnar is the worse offender at 34.3 at Iv 18 while Darius is reasonable to an extend at 26.

I remember when Riven used to have this issue. I guess we've gone full circle with another flashy/outplay champ.

TotalJerk1 votes

Riven is designed to be a top laner. High HP regen is OP up there because HP sustain matters more. Also, Riven can instantly engage whenever she wants while Ekko has to telegraph his intentions. Thirdly Riven doesn't have to use mana.

Well, if it isn't an issue then hopefully it doesn't get nerfed. Only time will tell.

At least he isn't an immobile melee and he DOES have a gap closer, as well as a MS boost. Personally, I don't think high HP regen is even necessary for champs with gap closers and burst, but that's just my opinion.
