Remember back when it took map awareness / vision / skillshots to catch someone and end the game?

TheThundersRoar··76 votes·4,707 views

You know, back before item 3092 ?

Now any chimp with enough brain cells to press a button can practically snare you for 4 seconds, without even having to know where you are, catching you out and ending a close game. Or just killing you for snowball and/or objectives.

Seriously. There is a reason everyone gets this, and why midlaners don't sell it after lane. Apart from its huge poke in lane and its stats, it's the perfect peel, chase, engage, and catch item. You can't get anything better.

I didn't think too much of it at first but literally its a huge pain. Like I was playing Quinn and got caught by spookyghosts in mid lane Then I literally watch master yi run at my from middle of river to kill me

why is it ironic

Quinn is the one that usually catches the midlaner out

I agree, broken item. Slow duration should be halved.

Silver Fluffenbu9 votes

just give it an "if" modifier. If there is a sightstone in your inventory, spooky ghosts does spookyghost, if there isn't, it makes a fart sound and does nothing.

PickleBabah8 votes

I think for it to suit its actual purpose (to scout, I think), you could just make it so that you have to be out of combat for ~5 seconds before using it.

Captain Aishi2 votes

that's a really smart suggestion right there

I want the fart sound even if I have a sightstone D:

Remember Twin Shadows? They moved that active to Frost Queen

yes, I know, they should have retained the old active

Old active was fucking garbage, though...

I miss Twin Shadows. Such an awesome and unique item that worked for a numerous amount of roles.

Athenes Lulu2 votes

Too bad even with its awesome yet powerful utility, there's no room or time to get that because tankier options are almost always better.

Remember when it had MR?

The Twin Shadows active was never a skill shot.

Yes, I know. But they put the Twin Shadows active on Frost Queen's.

Frost Queen's used to have an active that was a skillshot but it was a completely different active to the one it currently has.

I believe that was what he was referring to, though.

Good to see both of you are on the same page, and past that misunderstanding.

Because at higher levels of play it was very unsafe to move around the map for a large group of supports(not tanks+not disengage supports like janna),since moving around the map to gain vision was crucial to the game, these supports completely fell out of favor,so the new active was introduced.

However, due to that being one of many problems these supports have, the item was released overpowered to help(presumably?) them, and had some(in competitive and top tier solo q play tanks are still dominant, though bard and soraka are outliers) success on that regard.

I think that sums it up(Oh and talisman was eviscerated for whatever reason).

I kind of wish they would go back and make the actives for FoTM and ToA a bit more distinct, but I may just be letting my desire for more support active items get to me. Two out of three of the fully upgraded support starter items have a slow in some form and one a now lackluster speed boost.. :C It would just make more sense if the item actives echoed the stats on the item itself. Imagine if ToA gave a team wide buff to resistances? Perhaps FoTM could transfer a portion of a tanks health modified by some amount to a target in need like Tahm kench's E. Oh well, at least one can dream.

FoTM has VERY little room to work with active wise,as the current active isn't very strong and you sure as hell don't want to buff it. ToA has a pretty damn unique active which also fills a needed niche, unfortunately that item was more or less deleted.

Two out of three of the fully upgraded support starter items have a slow in some form and one a now lackluster speed boost..

The speedboost is very strong, the problem is that FQC also has a very strong active, and also actually has stats.

Speedboosts are much more statsfying than auras, that's just the way it is.

Perhaps FoTM could transfer a portion of a tanks health modified by some amount to a target in need like Tahm kench's E. Oh well, at least one can dream.

It sort of does that already, just without giving up hp.

Old active was near to useless COMPARED to the actives on FotM and Talisman, and was hard as fuck to land unless you are peeling or engaging in teamfights.

Glad they made its active into something actually useful, but the numbers are overtuned, active-wise.

Your Real Mom1 votes

And to make it worse the old active did DAMAGE. Which made it so difficult not to take kills when playing support. Which usually led to "lol I'm support trist I'm afk/ afk farming because my brain shuts down when supports take kills."

Athenes Lulu2 votes

It does nearly miniscule damage especially later on, so you must be really good at taking kills if you KS'd with that :^)

Your Real Mom1 votes

There were several times where I was playing a game and the support saved frost queens active and got triple or even quadra kills just by using the active alone.

Biffolo1 votes

Because it was a garbage active when it was a potato skillshot.

warmcorntortilla6 votes

Does no one remember when spooky ghosts was an item you could buy? They just removed the item it was on and put it on frost queen's so that it's worth buying. Before, the item was p much worthless and there was no point to upgrade it all the way.

CHOPSTICKUHH5 votes

Turn it back to twin shadows

The Whamboozler4 votes

People complained about losing vision due to wards going away. People got blue trinket for long-range perma-wards, people got Frost Queen for foolproof scouting. People are not complaining about Frost Queen. Every problem they try to fix they put their foot in something else.

Owntrolf3 votes

The best part is Twin Shadows slowed for only 2.5 seconds and cost 2.4k and does not have a gold passive.

The current FQC basically pays for itself, I easily get over 1k gold by 30 minutes effectively making it like 1.4k gold

Is its gold generation being nerfed? No. Is its slow being nerfed hard? No. Its mana regen is. Now, mana-hungry supports that have been shunned all Season 5 in favor of tank supports are getting a nerf, while not really hurting it to the people who actually go to buy it first on a laner.

Okay, yes, the slow is also getting nerfed. However, it isn't that much of a nerf, not enough to make it bad. In fact, it'll be better early as a gank support tool. You know what's staying? The gold generation being available after CSing. Sure, it's more options, but if lane Smite isn't allowed ever, then god damn, lane support items shouldn't be.

Zedex2 votes

Define mana hungry....They all got their respective mana regens and numbers buffed at the preseason due to removing mana pots. When I play these illusive "mana hungry UP supports"(Lulu, Sona) I literally can watch in between pokes as my mana bar regenerates faster then it should (due to mana being a mechanic that limits spell spamming, but is slowly getting invalidated by absurd mana regens and mana-less champs) and then laugh as I"m able to continue poking all lane until someone dies or I do. Its disgusting that you believe there are still mana hungry supports.

Athenes Lulu2 votes

Because of the removal of mana pots from the shop, rushing frostfang for the early mana regen is now optimal compared to sightstone rush.

Don't forget that in many cases, spammy utility supports often rely on only FQC for mana regen, because mage items are not the only things they build. They can't just afford that anytime during lane, either, because anyone who has been botlane know that you can't leave lame anytime without killing your own ADC and/or tower.

Maybe if they still kept the blue sodas in the shop and that Morello's and Athene's weren't so overly expensive, then people wouldn't be crying about how OP FQC is in terms of mana regen. 150% is just right.

Jack Rakan2 votes

Thats bullshit tho, mana champions still got hit hard last season... while there are still champions that require NOTHING to cast spells, and some which require almost nothing (energy) to do so... I want my mana pots back.

No it doesnt. Try using it on Akali while shes in her shroud, it just ignores her and goes for someone else instead.

Cerbearus1 votes

It will not target you if you are invis when it is used. However, for someone like Kha'zix who has short periods of invis, as soon as it hits him, his ult is completely useless for 4 seconds

a stats-wise decent item that provides vision in a patch where green wards were removed and trinket wards were all nerfed... I wonder why everyone gets this D:

I remember the first time I saw Leblanc with Frost Queen's Claim and wondered why she was fed.
