Pantheon shouldn't get a free pass with dragon

KingRadishMan··36 votes·4,661 views

Dragon damage needs to be changed so that it deals the same amount of damage consistently over time.

I think it's ridiculous that pantheon can kill dragon at level 3 without taking any damage. he is practically one of the only champs that can do this.

I don't really have any issue 100% with pantheons passive blocking some damage from dragon if the damage is more spread out ie:(same damage more attacks over time) Then pantheons passive would not be so overwhelmingly effective. He shouldn't get a free pass over other champs just because his passive was overlooked in the design.

We had a Pantheon who tried to pull that shit last game, we warded it up and ambushed his ass :I

But still, dragon needs to be a team objective, I don't think it's healthy that the entire team has to change it's route just to prevent a single champ from taking it early.

That's why you ward it. Sneaking dragon is a risk because it could be warded. That's why it's a team objective. There are plenty of times when you can 1 man or 2 man it but without a full team effort to secure it, it's a risk.

AbodyHUN6664 votes

That's true. I just liked it better when the risk in early dragond was getting executed by it. I mean it's a fucking dragon, it has to deal lots of damage.

The issue is that the ability to solo it early is just incredibly strong unless you trade off something massive for it,as demanding vision and presence near it so early is a very big constraint on somebody,if your bot lane is pushed in it won't be warded, hell even if it is pushed they will lose pressure to ward it,same goes for mid, your are putting your mid/bot at a very notable disadvantage but you don't actually pay anything meaningful for it,smite raptors,go to drake, either clear ward or do it/use red trinket, either you get drake or you get a big advantage for bot/mid.

Come on now. Even if you have it completely warded at the 4 minute mark, it is utterly ridiculous that one champ, 3-6 minutes in, can swing the dragon fight and 3+ people from the other team have to focus on stopping that interaction. It frees up so many resources and map control for the enemy team just for the threat of Pants sneaking an early dragon.

A Global objective should not be soloable at level 3, that's just stupid.

FluxBound5 votes

although this is such an easy fix, the more champs are around it, the lower it's armor/MR is. maybe a bonus if all 5 of one team is there. Dragon becomes reverse Wukong

So you don't think it's healthy that some champions are better at some things than others? I know that's not what you meant at all, just saying. I think it's perfectly okay that jungle panth has this strength, it has a counter play, and one that's very easy as well. I see that you view it as bot and mid losing pressure to keep pressure on drag pit, but panth also wastes his time trying to do drag if you guys do keep pressure on it. Sometimes it even turns out in a kill.

Also, the entire team doesn't necessarily have to do anything. The jungler can also spare 75 gold to ward drag. If you see him take out the ward then immediately head there. Idk, I think the only time getting an early drag alone is worth is when the enemy team is too bad to react or just doesn't notice. If they do notice and react, then panth would be at a significant disadvantage for the coming fight.

And, you know, dragonslayer panth skin.

There is being better at something than others and there is the ability to fucking solo a global objective 4 minutes into the game. He would still be a really strong dragon taker due to his passive, but no, snagging a global objective at 4 minutes is not a "strength" it's a design flaw.

AbodyHUN6661 votes

The problem is, we are talking about a level 3 drag, the whole enemy team has to alter it's playstyle against it (starting at top buff, getting warding totem, pushing early to roam at level 2), and if Pantheon try doing it the enemy team put itself behind for nothing. Panth can even sweep the ward then leave for extra lulz luring even the enemy jungler.

jmaishere1 votes

ww makes it a solo objective

Knight Devout1 votes

Same thing, only that his team wasn't braindead and also picked a strong early game comp. They got it even faster because they could force and win and teamfight if we had followed, and their botlane followed us to save Pantheon and then proceeded to take dragon down.

Khristophoros13 votes

Because it's difficult to ward dragon.

This. Level 2 drag is so well known now.

Crownsy1 votes

Because it's difficult to ward dragon.

It is actually a huge loss in lane pressure for Bot lane to go ward it that early. Unless your talking dropping a real ward not a trink, and even then it's a huge amount of early resources to stop a champ soloing a global objective 4 minutes in.

Rebonack13 votes

It isn't as if it takes him about a minute or so to kill the thing. Champions killing dragon at level 2/3 isn't exactly anything new in League.

Hullabaloo9073 votes

i think before it wasnt really worth the risk or the effort, but now it is.

Sammystorm2 votes

It is arguable less worth it now because you are providing a worse lane advantage to your team mates by missing out on your ganking time. 10% damage boost is really shitty early game. Where as bonus exp and gold actually made a noticeable difference. Bonus exp let you level first and have a good stat boost (or hit 6 first). By the time jungle kills dragon people will have around 40 ap or 70 ad which makes it 44 ap or 77 ad after the boost. For most champions this will be 1-2 damage boost per skill. Not that big of a deal. The mexp boost allowed you to have a base damage increase which is much more noticeable.

Granted the new dragon boost scales better but it isn't particularly game breaking especially since they lose out on so much time that they good be farming or ganking.

Endtroducing3 votes

Yeah but securing the first buff leads to securing buffs 2... 3.... 4 and so on. Eventually it will tilt the game in you favor lategame as these days close games seem to hinge on dragon control. Having those stacks will help you lategame more than a minute worth of ganks or other clearing

Sammystorm1 votes

Yes getting first buff can lead to that but again it does not provide a significant boost until later. Getting a successful gank at level 3 puts that team quite a bit ahead of the jungler who does a level 3 dragon. That lead will make that team better equipped to grab the 2nd dragon which would nullify the first's teams gain before it really had a impact.

Hullabaloo9071 votes

Pretty much as soon as you get your first bf sword or rod, the first dragon is worth more.

Sammystorm1 votes

Still not really. It gets useful once you complete your first item. 50 atk from bf sword + 8% from buff = 54

So for Lucian that adds

4.8 for his q

0 damage for his w

0 for his e

1 damage per shot on his ult

Not really noticable.

Where as a level up will give him

+30 damage + a ratio increase for his q

+40 damage for his w

or 45 per shot on his ult.

It really isn't good until later in the game.

GundayMonday1 votes

Right but now it's a no-risk high reward play for panth. He doesn't take dmg, so even if you go to "stop" him, he probably just walks away. And then does it again immediately after the coast is clear.

That level 3 Nunu dragon at least leaves him with close to no HP!

BeatzBoyFTW11 votes

As if he can kill dragon in about 10 seconds at level 3.

coppinslinger10 votes

I think in pantheon's case in particular, its kinda stupid because it doesn't require the same amount of mechanics that it takes for MonkeyKing or Fiora for example. But the fact that he can do this is really the only thing that's keeping him viable in the new jungle, so eh I'll take it.

California Ice8 votes

One time, we waited for pantheon to kill the dragon at 1000 health at level 3 thanks to my trinket/ward. When it hit 700, we killed him and got a dragon. Pantheon then said "hacker" and afk'd.

A lot of characters can level 3 dragon, it's just harder than Pantheon. I know Nunu, Wukong, and Fiora can do it

Narasimha3 votes

Wait, Wukong, really? That actually sounds more like skill on the Wu then.

Remlap12231 votes

Bitches don't know about the decoy...

Narasimha1 votes

With an 18 second cooldown? Thats...not very useful. At all.

Remlap12231 votes

Well if it was any lower it'd be OP. You,uh,do know that monsters still attack the decoy until it disappears, even after you reveal yourself right? That's two hits the decoy tanks. It's not as enduring as Pantheon's passive, but it certainly helps.

Narasimha1 votes

No, its only one hit. Drag has an attack speed of .3, and decoy only lasts for 1.5 seconds.

Remlap12231 votes

I said jungle monsters, not dragon. If I wanted to say it I would have. Regardless of Drake's attack speed, it deals a crapton of damage and decoy still helps.

Long Dong Wukong1 votes

Also decoy is the only thing keeping Wukong afloat in this jungle. He gets to mitigate some of the damage that is wrecking almost everyone else.

He still has an optimal clear that requires him to go back before his second buff to buy a Ranger's, but it's better than nothing.

Long Dong Wukong1 votes

If you time Decoy right you'll cancel one attack and then have the decoy soak another. So you basically get two hits out of decoy.

Scroll up for video

Long Dong Wukong1 votes

I think I forgot to reply to this or something... I could have sworn I did... but no, you can cancel the first attack by hitting decoy, effectively switching Dragon's target and making it not attack, and then it will shoot at the decoy once right as it disappears.

You can get two hits out of a decoy.

Here's a video of it being done, it's still possible even with a couple mistakes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJwBwIpg_9U

Dunno about you but, people generally are not looking for junglers or even thinking about dragon 3 minutes into the game

Crownsy1 votes

yea, because junglers are clearly visible everywhere else 3 minutes into the game. We get it pantheon mains, you love to do it. It shouldn't be possible 3 minutes in. You should at least have to call in mid/bot so that there is some tell.

And yes, you can revise your entire early game strategy, buy a ward, and ward dragon. but for that investment, you lose vision in lane since you have to put your sight ward there. Plus, smart pants take sweeper if they are going to do it, and then you lose the ward and he can come back a minute later and do it, either forcing you to give up lane pressure to trink it, or poss get ambushed as you roam up.

BeetleBoy3 votes

Don't complain that Pantheon gets a free dragon, counter it. Place a ward in dragon pit early. When Pantheon solo's dragon, he's left with low health, sometimes he barely gets it. Just wait for him to get 3/4s of the way done, go in, kill his ass, and take dragon for yourself.

Pantheon doesn't get free dragons when I play, he gives ME free dragons.

Knight Devout2 votes

Just make his passive unable to block attacks from epic monsters, and it's done.

Seriously, the "ward argument"is bogus, not all botlaners are braindead assholes who won't help Pantheon by also warding dragon to know if it's warded, OR just follow up when botlane goes missing. And what do you do if Pantheon goes dragon while your jungler is ganking top? You ask your jungler to pick tp over flash? You ask your top laners to pick tp and hope the enemy doesn't do the same?

You basically revolve all your early game strategy around the fact that Pantheon can take dragon solo ?

Then I ask for equal opportunity Barons as well. It's nonsense that only aa-based champions can damage him. As a support, you're just standing around looking silly while the 'big boys' like WW or Jax take him down in seconds, unassisted if necessary.

Enemy has a pantheon jungle? Tell your mid lane to roam to dragon pit around 3:20, and rip pantheons face off for a free first blood.

That shit takes him so long to kill, it should only ever happen to you once before you know how to stop it.

and if he's not there, they gave up lane pressure and likely a ward for nothing.

It's stupid, at any level, that a global objective is soloable at 3 minutes into a game. Im ok with him being strong at it, but if he wants to do it that early he should at least have to call mid in and give up lane pressure.

Different jungles require you to play differently.

Eve requires you to buy more pink wards (or conversely, makes your green wards less valuable).

Pantheon requires you to be more vigilant with dragon.
