Locket and Redemption is stronger than support champs' abilities

Support champions should feel good about their own unique abilities and skills like the other classes and champions do instead of relying heavily on these strong active items. item 3190 item 3107

Also, I think we focus too much solely on healing and shielding power.

  • % heal/shield power mastery and items are just a bad idea to me since it benefits some champion more than the others. Janna can benefit it because of her E and Ult. Lulu's ult does not benefit from that and only has a 0.5 ap scaling, but supports' build usually has less than 100 ap since item 3107 and item 3190 are a must build now.

I just hope one day picking a support champion means I am utilizing what the champion gives to the team with their own abilities. It is ridiculous to see even Leona's jobs are shielding or healing with these items like all the other supports do.

The +shield/heal stat is for enchanters. Lulu also has a shield and she is not a full enchanter like Janna. without the +heal/shield, enchanters don't really have much to build except pure actives. Also, they're as powerful as support's abilities because Riot wants to make the role more exciting to play and attract more people to it. The reason tanks used to build it so much is because it really was that powerful, and I've seen that mostly fixed by now. Locket just so happens to give tank stats, and engage supports don't have an item for them (yet- we might get something at the tank update). Also, those supports still have a niche like Leo's single-target lockdown.

The healing/shielding power is their to fill a niche. It offers scaling utility on a supports budget, that isn't easily abused by other lanes.

Their have been problems trying to give the scaling that supports need. AP is too costly to build on a supports budget, we can't put a ton of AP on support items without mid laners abusing it, and increasing the AP ratios on supports tend to bring then into the solo lane.

The thing with Damage supports is, while they can't afford a ton of AP, they can compensate by building Magic pen, and trade off any utility scaling. The shielding power is simply the inverse of that. Get more power in protection, at the cost of damage.

Also, their are a hand full of supports who don't even rely that heavily on Scaling, and is other wise item independent. And for champs like this, is where you buy itemization less for the scaling and more for the utility that comes with. And that's fine too.
