The power of the word "no"

King Lego··3 votes·924 views

I wonder, was Morello the only one who had the guts to say that word to any Rioter, with little to no concern if he would break their feelings after whatever idea on champions, items, runes they came up with? (as well as buffs and nerfs)

Was there anybody at Riot games who had the guts to say "no" to CertainlyT when he designed Zoe and reworked Akali? Or to the designer who reworked Irelia?

Are we, the community, the only ones who are saying "no" to insert what's broken and unhealthy for the game when it was 1st introduced?

Did most to all Rioters watched the movie "yes man" a hundred times that the word "yes" got programmed into them? Hence why everything that's introduced gets passed?

Alright alright, TO THE POINT i'm trying to make. Riot, you need someone to keep things in check to whatever unhealthy or toxic that's introduced and not let it see the light of day (a.k.a a Morello). Season 9 might be promising (to me at least), but you need to have someone with the guts to say "no, this idea is dumb, don't let it pass through" without any concern if he offended someone for saying that. Just because an idea is UNIQUE and CREATIVE and to ONE UP oneself, doesn't mean it should be there and absolutely doesn't mean it will be healthy for the game. What pisses me off is how there are features are in this game (champion, items and runes) makes me want to play this game less and less.

thing with yes and no is that you can say no to a no XD.

I hear you and looking at how little PBE is a ground for testing crazy ideas regardless of them ever making into the game is a sign of how little they end up saying yes to stuff.
why are we being so conservative with PBE? it feels like just a weekly precursor to what to expect on live.

How little PBE is of an effect for testing makes me question why it's even there. There were some stupid changes that even by looking at it, you know it's a very bad idea to add. The Banner of Command disaster is a good example of it. One thing that bothers me so much is how i am dying to know if there even 1 Rioter who says "no, that's a bad idea" and goes full Morello on whatever idea that got introduced. I feel like critics are not welcomed in Riot these days.

It's honestly there for bug testing. Balance cannot be gleaned from the PBE simply because of the skill discrepancy (you have people like Pants are Dragon who play in Challenger going against bronze-gold players) and the fact that a good portion of the PBE's community play there on high fluctuating ping.

Which is even worse. Riot needs to fix that and add a legit method to test things more effectively with no elo difference and no high pings. The lack of such thing is what's causing this game to go haywire.

lol morello made Zyra one of the most poorly designed champions in the game like even zoe has a better design then her and your acting like he would of said no to zoe lol

He didn't work on Zyra alone, and at least Zyra isn't even overloaded. Morello was merely the embodiment of a giant nerf hammer.

My point was that you said things like zoe and akali wouldn't have happened if morello was there and you saying he did not work with her alone jusy proves my point more. Also the reason most of the reworks happed is because of the kit were too generic or had little room for counter play example would be old akali so I would say it is more accurate to say that stuff like zoe and akali would of happened or had less counter play if morello was there.

I don't know how Morello was. All i know he was a giant nerf hammer, that was hated for nerfing everything, and when he left, everybody wished he didn't leave. Just take the word "morello" as someone who would say "no that's dumb you can't do that" rather than the real Morello himself. I don't even know how much of meme the dude is. He sure did love nerfing everything, i bet.

At one point, just because champions have such basic abilities doesn't mean they are bad design. Sometimes we need simple champions. New Akali is much more overloaded than old Akali though. Hell, her shroud itself is enough to add her to my list of "bad design champions". Like what the hell is true stealth? How is it even a good idea? Turrets are supposed to be immune to any form of stealth and yet CT's new Akali shroud is a huge middle finger to that big golden turret law.

Akali's new shroud looks like it was made by some 12 year old who sucks at tower diving. I mean, i'm not that good at tower diving, and would add such thing to the game if i had the chance but come on. My own guts even tell me the new Akali design has a form of bias.

just wanted to add this quote as its very relevant “He who dares not offend cannot be honest.” — Thomas Paine

what sucks is this lack of openness results in ongoing gameplay issues.
@ Devs yall should have a meditation and chant a positive mantra before every balance brainstorm session (chant honesty rocks, find your centerMasterYi ). chill vibes allow for deeper analysis.

I guess that's valid enough in Riot's design philosophy.

However, another quote that's relevant enough to be taken to the design philosophy too would be this: "Your scientists were so preoccupied that they could, that they didn't stop to think if they should."

Ya, in this case, those people saying you shouldn't might be afraid to say so at risk of offending.

Zoe has been a pain to play against if you never played her. so annoying to get used to.

Say they released Yasuo today I think many people would question their direction.

Aatrox is quite strong now too, and prior to his latest buff he was a little under the radar. I was actually unhappy with how they turned Aatrox into a Riven 2.0 at first but he's grown on me, I like the aoe spells he has and how it works with his E.

I'm open to a lot of kit designs as long as it comes with visual clarity.

I for one like Irelia Akali Zoe, getting the balance right could be done a bit sooner. it's more a question of finetuning for me. As far as gameplay goes they are fun and original and I don't dislike this direction. there are/were concerns with them and they are legitimate

"Ya, in this case, those people saying you shouldn't might be afraid to say so at risk of offending." Well, my friend, i'm a designer myself, and one thing i learned is to never take anything as an offense and instead use it to your advantage and grow from it.

I guess Rioters are just snowflakes?

Yasuo had a heck of long time history of problems. I think he needs a rework to my opinion. Aatrox, yeah I like the new Aatrox. At least the new one isn't toxic as the old Aatrox. As for Irelia, Akali, and Zoe, those 3 need a mini rework on something.
