After the initial 2 seconds are up, if there's only one target and they're maxed on stacks of Impure Shots, is it best just to go ahead and cancel the ult and begin auto attacking again? Just curious.
Well you can if you think you can deal more damage without your ult. In general MF's ultimate is a poor 1v1 tool and the only time I use it in those situations is when my opponent turns and run where I can't touch them with my autos/Q anymore. DPS wise if you can auto them, you are probably better off doing that then doing damage through your ult.
