Why is mundo being buffed?

So I just checked s@20, and was scrolling through the usual PBE notes, and saw that Mundo was being buffed http://prntscr.com/cfspmn.

Why? I don't like Mundo as a champion personally, but that's just me. But I do think he is a somewhat balanced champion. Why the grevious wounds application on his q though? His cleaver already chunks like a mother******. Now its getting a range and "damage" (meaning the grevious wounds) buff? That just doesn't make sense to me. Let me know your thoughs

I actually really like Mundo's kit but he needs a buff - at the very least to his AA range so it's like Naut or Sion. Other champions almost as tanky as him have a ton of CC and game changing ultimates. His winrates are also pretty poor everywhere.

All tanks get much weaker late game due to VS/Lord Dominik's/Mortal Reminder/Black Cleaver etc. severely reducing the gold efficiency of their items but unlike Naut, Sejuani, Sion etc. who have many ways to impact the game beyond just being tanky and having good base damage, Mundo has nothing beyond that. I think people see Mundo get tanky and do a lot of damage mid game and think that his dueling ability means he's fine. It's not that simple... people just have less appreciation (even though it matters more) for CC compared to solo kills and raw tankiness.

Mundo can't currently be viable unless he becomes broken beyond belief. As long as 800 gold item 3123 removes him from the game, he will never be a better pick than a less heal-based tank/fighter.

Even though i'm an Illaoi main, im actually looking forward for the possible GW buff on mundo. Means i can pick him back up as another counter to Illaoi

they range might just be an indicator change. mundo didnt really see a lot of play recently and the buff is something that could definetly make him see more play due to tanks who heal a lot beeing played in top (gnar, olaf). also i think its something thematically fitting. you know the infested cleavers are not really good for your healing
