So you can have 3 possible arguments about balanced MMR ratings. As a player you will follow ONE of these.
- Normals are for fun
- You are attempting to learn
- You want to play to win
If you are school of thought for number 1, balance does not matter. (does not apply to you) so this one is out of the way.
2 and 3 both also prove that normal MMR do not matter either though.
Number 2 means you are just looking to get better, The random high ELO match up will give you a clue if you are doing something right or not. IF you totally get stomped it means that you have glaring flaws and you need to address them. If you are holding your own that means that you got a grasp on the champ. Either way you are learning (painfully) but effectively. A player just abusing you flaws is a very eye opening experience.
Number 3 well in that case you are supposed to be playing ranked anyways. People are not as boosted as you might think. People are just highly inconsistent at below plat. If you want to play to win and have a "fair" game; you go to rank. You are put with people close to your skill.
So no matter the reason you are playing, normal MMR does not matter. Fun,learning, to win they all have a place in the current setup. The problem is not that normals are designed wrong, its that you are looking for a type of mode/reason that nomals are not designed to have.
aka
Number 1, balance matters. It's not fun getting destroyed by people who don't belong anywhere near a rating
Number 2, balance matters, because if you lose, obviously something was done wrong, but losing to super high ranked people just says "oh, they're high ranked, of course they're beating us, even if we change our playstyle to try to wait for their mistakes, what are thooooooose?"
Number 3, balance matters, because you can't win against unfair odds.
