Soraka Ult vs Karthus Ult

These champs have Similar Ults IMO (obviously one damages and one heals) but they are both non skill shots, global ults that can really turn a team fight in your favor. I'm a little confused as to why Sorakas' (160 sec ranks 1) ult is on such a shorter CD than Karthus'(200 sec ranks 1), i Get if Karthus had a shorter ult CD he could be a monster, but would raising sorakas ult CD be the end of the world? Countless times have assassins been in a 1v1 or the bot lane was in a skirmish and Soraka just saved the day by clicking R. Maybe give it a channel or something it just seems a little too easy to use and its so frequently up IMO.

Soraka's isn't always used to its full potential, whereas Karthus's is, unless someone on their team is already dead.

If Soraka wanted to heal the top laner while they fought, or even save a squishy who walked into a death bush, anyone who was already full health/close to full wouldn't benefit as much. Whereas if Karthus was trying to KS his team with his ult, he will always do damage to everyone provided they aren't dead.

Karthus does way more dmg with his ult than Soraka can with her heal. Soraka's in a good place right now.

I really didnt mean this post in the case of soraka vs karthus, i more leaning towards sorakas ult is very strong and off cool down quite frequently when she builds CDR. would sorakas world come to an end if she had a 200 sec ult rank 1? she rushes cdr so we could reward that.

Back in Season 1 global ultimates were in a place of high power. Oh Panth ulti across the map? RIP.

TF gating across the map, RIP.

Shen can still do it, Karthus can still globally ult, but they have to be more careful now with how and when to use it.

Somewhere around S2 or S3 they nerfed Global ultimates hard. They reduced the range on some of them, and with that they also nerfed the CD of all Globals to make their uses more.. justified? I guess is the word.

Longer CD = Longer window for the opponent to abuse. If they know Karthus ulti is down, they can freely poke him without fear of having to back and ending up dying.

Soraka's ulti is a different story, because it's a heal. It's not used to kill enemies from long distance so it avoided the nerf bat.

If there's a Karthus enemy and Soraka ally in the same game, generally Soraka is going to save her heal to be activated during Karthus' casting of his ult. As for cooldown increase, I don't think so. Soraka is a support and has to be able to be there for her allies when they need it. Making her ult have such a high CD early would place her disproportionally out of place compared to her support friends, namely Braum, Leona, Lulu, Nami, Zilean, etc.

not really, heal is like true damage since karthus ult has to chew through resistances, generally soraka ult heals much more than karthus ult can do damage

Karthus ult has a much higher AP scaling than does Soraka ult. Damage will always prevail over tankiness/resistances and healing.
