New balance ideas for ranked point and promotion system
So I've been playing league for 2 seasons now. I win about 50-55 % of my games. According to RIOT I should be advancing, but in fact I've dropped to the bottom. After paying attention to about 100 games I think I've figured out why.
-wins don't give enough points -losses take away too many points -losses outweigh wins in terms of being demoted -after being demoted you drop to 75-79 points -after being promoted you start at 0 points
Here are some examples
Immediately after ranking here is an example of what can happen (This exact thing did in fact happen to me) 3 wins, +30 points 1 loss, -26 points (now at 4 points) 1 win, +7 points (now at 11 points) 2 losses, demoted
In this example, we have 3 wins right after a promotion, but its not enough to secure the rank.
Loosing only 1 game at 0 points is enough for a demotion, but you need to win 2/3 to promote.
Now for suggestions
As often happens in lower ranked games, people rage quit or d/c. This should reduce the penalty of loosing the game to the other players, as its not something under the control of a player.
Another suggestion here is to make the point gain/loss modifier less significant. loosing 26 points and gaining only 7 is a pretty extreme gap.
Final suggestion is to start a player off with a 15 or 25 points buffer after gaining a rank.
Even though these mostly aren't an issue in gold or higher, it does have a huge impact on bronze and silver, and will help actual good players get into better ranks, while keeping the less skilled players in the lower ranks.
Please feel free to input your suggestions, comments, or ideas.
This is NOT a place to bitch about ELO hell.
