Season 4 AFK Analysis
This is a little list I made throughout last season to keep track of afks in matches throughout all types of game modes, to try and help understand more of how common afks actually are, and whether or not certain game modes have more or less afks than each other, and for which reasons people tend to afk. I keep track of my friends just in order to prevent them from being considered 'unique' players repeatedly in the data, and assume that for the most part they won't afk, but I keep track of it anyways because sometimes they do. Everyone else is assumed to be unique players.
There were actually also a large number of ranked matches I forgot to record during my grind in the last two months of the season, which didn't include much afks for the most part, but did include an instance where I got disconnected due to a power outage.
I've also kept track of when it appears to be a server problem, as we all know the beginning of S4 was pretty much hell when it came to server crashes and DDoS attacks.
DNE: Does not exist. Everyone was afk/lost connection to server at once. This is either due to a server crash or a DDoS attack.

There was a number of matches where I was flaking during my trip to Prince Rupert, on a 20mbps CityWest connection because that's the only ISP there and it is really bad and unreliable. Outside of this one month long trip, I have had few dc issues with League outside of server crashes and DDoS attacks. There was also a match that I disconnected from due to a very short power outage that corrupted my game files and required me to uninstall and reinstall League, which took about an hour at the time.
One of my friends gets dc'd on occasion due to having a bad isp, living in Hawaii and having bad ping in general, and having a big family who all share the internet and other people sometimes stream movies and shows on it without warning for him. In one team builder match, one of my friends got dc'd and this led to another friend intentionally leaving the match.
Oddly enough, it seems that the mode with the highest leaver rate is Team Builder, and I'm not sure why, really. This is however closely followed by Summoner's Rift. It seems like the most important factor for leavers is the length of the match, considering the longer game modes tend to have a significantly higher rate of leavers whereas shorter modes like Ascension and Showdown don't even have any leavers. After this, frustration would play a role in the leavers, which is mainly prominent in game modes like ARAM and All For One where people have to play champions they may not want to play. Also, ranked does seem to have less leavers, as people in ranked are (hopefully) taking the game more seriously than they would in normals.
