IP earned based on your toxicity level

Stark6000·1/12/2015, 9:04:19 PM·93 votes·3,969 views

What do you folks think about this idea.

Riot breaks toxicity into 4 levels. Extremely toxic, Toxic, neutral, Good Behavior. Neutral would earn ip at current levels. Good behavior would earn 1.5x ip. toxic and Ex tox would earn fractional amounts.

result:

Increase in IP gains for players that contribute to a good game experience. Decrease in those that negatively affect the game.
Rerolls that can not control themselves would constantly gain fractional IP and lose incentive to act that way/play on that account.

I havn't thought this through but sounds good and with IP gaines being so punishing for new players this would help immensely.

It's a good idea, I like the concept of being rewarded for positive play. Similar to the free skins that most players received, maybe a few toxic members will change their behaviors for next season.

The logistics of this idea would need to be reworked, because it could be manipulated and exploited. But the idea of having a positive player receive bonus IP or other incentives while restricting toxicity would be a step in the right direction. It's one thing to ban accounts, usually players don't change their ways until it's too late and they're held accountable. It's another to actively strive towards being a positive player and actually earning something for it.

Why only punish bad behavior when you can also reward the good?

And still there is toxicity in probably every 3 or 4 games. This is MORE about increasing IP and less about reducing it. We've seen how long it takes a new player to acquire base runes and a handful of champs. Its ludicrous

So basically, toxic people play more, and good behavior people play less. Sounds like a really fun direction to head the community in.

junglerboy161/12/2015, 11:20:16 PM5 votes

Anybody who does not care about IP (too lazy to grind for it or already owns everything that IP can buy) wouldn't care at all and would be toxic anyway.

Llanite1/13/2015, 4:20:49 AM5 votes

This only leads to 2 things:

+They will make new accounts (Not like they can buy anything) +They will bot for IP.

Either of which is worse than it is currently.

Stark60001/12/2015, 9:14:45 PM4 votes

They'll also be banned more. I don't think you'll see much change in the amount people play either way. If people were just grinding IP they'd repeated dominions all day with the unbalanced champs.

As a player that lose my sh** quite easy on this game, I think some sort of reward would help most of the rager/toxic player. It would help me, anyway.

Flowflow1/13/2015, 4:21:49 PM2 votes

Terrible idea, those who get place with people that queued together and they don't like them could simply troll them by reporting them. It puts the power to destroy others game ADDITIONALLY besides trolling. So you want to add another method of how to get on someones nerves.

PrinceArchie1/13/2015, 2:16:23 PM2 votes

So would inversely, nicer players receive greater IP boosts? For example a player which has been given things like "Helpful", "Friendly",etc.?

Junkο1/13/2015, 2:46:38 PM2 votes

Remove the reducing part, it's already really fucking terrible and would just get people to bot more.

I love the idea of an increase though

I think its hard to reward people for good behavior on a game by game basis but I do like the core of your idea. Perhaps a better alternative is every month or two of a season Riot rewards players who exhibit good behavior with a small reward (such as an IP boost, discounted champs, runes or rune pages) and if you go the whole season being a good player you get a bigger reward (like a skin, summoner icon, special ward, etc.) You could even have the rewards scale so that players who have good behavior season after season get greater and greater rewards. The important thing is for Riot to broadcast that good players get rewards so if you don't get a reward you will feel like you are missing out and strive to improve your behavior.

While I'd love a free 1.5x IP bonus since most people are positive (if really one person is really toxic every 3 games that's 1/30, so most people are positive) I don't think Riot would increase it since it would become the new baseline.

I'm wondering what would be Lyte opinion on creating scales for toxicity. If people would strive to become less toxic if there is a "scale" to progress.

GundayMonday1/13/2015, 4:09:00 PM1 votes

Lyte gave a talk at GDC last year and said that the majority of toxic behavior comes from the good/neutral playerbase having a rare bad game. What you're proposing would make us all have less ip. :3 (I'm still a big fan of the idea, but wanted to make people aware about the potential fall out)

What you are proposing isnt really fair. You would create reward disparity between people who play positive and play a lot, and those who play positive but play only a little. Also since the vast majority of people are considered positive this would overall just be a general increase in ip gain. If you are thinking that you would have strict requirements to get to the top tier, like number of positive reports, you are unfairly rewarding those with social status over those quiet but no less positive players. I doubt I have ever been praised for taking the champs no one wants in aram but I think thats more deserving of reward than typing some positive words in game. People just assume I wanted that shit champ, maybe I get a "ty" or "tyty!" but no one clicks that little button at the end. This isn't a problem as long as I'm treated the same as every other "positive" player.

So the people who have played for so long that they no longer care about IP can be as toxic as they like? It's a nice idea, but it won't stop everyone. It'll help the new player experience only a little if you start at "neutral" too.

This is a great idea! Everybody please up-vote this post, perhaps we may receive a red card? (Hehe)

Subject 51/12/2015, 11:17:53 PM1 votes

When i get out of class, who would like to start something community based on this? I am certain Stark would be more than interested in making the post.

Migrañaboy1/13/2015, 2:46:09 AM1 votes

Don't think that rewarding the well-behaved with more ip gains is the direction that Riot will take, specially when it represents 95% of the server. Rito needs to drain IP if anything. :^)

It's not my fault I fart a lot.

Ace Access 1/13/2015, 10:10:06 AM1 votes

maybe not being negative for an entire season gives you a 10% RP/IP discount for any 5 champions (who cost 4800IP or more) and their skins or a trial bundle where you can get a 3day trial on any 10 champions you want

Vexxan1/13/2015, 11:38:05 AM1 votes

It's alright but most people I notice are toxic in ranked. Or at least more often. So I would say something like an LP clamp for those people would work best. Wanna be toxic? No LP for u. Sure would work for me. What do you guys think?

Ghiefelstein1/13/2015, 1:44:17 PM1 votes

Positive players win more games. You get more IP for wins. The incentive is already there. You could increase the reward, but the biggest reward for me is more enjoyable games. No extra IP or skins can compete with that.

worldwar1 gunner1/13/2015, 2:12:20 PM1 votes

This idea is horrible considering the current player base is full of people who will report you just for dieing once and the says your feeding. If they were to base ip on toxicity level there would be a really unbalance of ip gain for every league player even if they are not toxic.

EvilDavid08261/13/2015, 2:14:33 PM1 votes

and how exactly would you judge players with this? This can lead to a lot of misunderstandings. And sometimes people doesn't mean to be toxic, they might just have had a bad day. Sometimes i swear at my teammates as well but i don't consider myself toxic.
