Played for over 4 years, just got first chat restriction - toxic players more common?

Has this happened to anyone else? I am a 36 year old gamer, and I feel that the League of Legends player base has become so negative and toxic that I imagine there are others out there like me. I take responsibility for the restriction, even if I was defending myself against angry 12-year-olds provoking me.

But people in LoL are too quick to

  1. Be toxic toward one another
  2. Purposely throw games or go afk even at level 30
  3. Hit that 'Report' button after games to report teammates and opponents out of retaliatory anger and frustration

My account received a chat restriction for 13 games because I have been reported for multiple games. Listen you guys, I'm 36 and don't get upset easily but I find myself being provoked more and more and losing patience with other players lately to the point that now I have been restricted myself. I have to say that the player base has become more and more toxic and angry since I first started to play League in 2010.

For example, I know that in the last week I randomly joined a team of people who were on headset and had premade the team except for jungle (me). Then one of them decided to be a jerk and I unknowingly asked the team to report and then in turn they all got abusive and reported me.

I know that I have been provoked and defended myself (and my mother) to people on my own team and even if the restriction is _somewhat _ warranted I think it is a symptom of the immaturity and toxicity of the player base increasing. I have friends who I try to get to play this game but they refuse because of bad experiences. It is all very frustrating, especially when I find myself receiving chat restrictions like this.

How is Riot working to improve this?

TLDR -- Longtime player, first ever chat restriction. Has the League community become increasingly more toxic as of late? What can Riot do to fix this?

Mistakes happen and no system is perfect. A lot of the false positives are probably due to spite reports from toxic players. What you presented is a circular argument that is self-reinforcing. There are clearly some unfair bans even if they don't happen to the entire player base.

Yeah, there are issues with the system. Even if you're not actually toxic, just responding to toxic players can get you a ban. It's absurd.

Riot doesn't even acknowledge unfair bans like in that thread so the statistic is pretty meaningless. They almost never admit mistakes.
