Why is Yi no longer favorable mid?

Every time I play Yi mid as an assassin now my teammates crap all over me because I decided to take him mid even though I do fine with him. I mean he is still an assassin. Most people take him in jungle these days but in the mid lane he's an absolute monster that can counter most other assassins/mages too unless they have major CC.

So why is it that most see him mid and just starts groaning about it?

As a Master Yi Mid "Main", I'm curious as well actually.

His greatest weakness is the thing every midlaner has. lol.

I play him mid sometimes and he works absolutely fine with proper wave control and spell dodging.

People really are stupid sometimes though. I've been asked more times than I wish if I am going "ap yi" after calling mid with him. Dude like seriously...?

Unlike other assassins who has an escape, Yi is easy to get lock down hard by mid champs such as Malzahar .

Because you don't see him there in the big LCS plays man! How dare you play something outside the meta!

Seriously though, the only objection I have to Yi mid is the same objection I have to any other physical damage dealer mid. Mid is the traditional spot where we get magic damage from, and if we don't get a good source of magic damage from somewhere else the other team can just build armor against you. As long as that's taken care of, I consider Yi to be a decent counterpick mid lane, and he's probably better there then in the jungle.

Because people is brainless. Yi is an assassin and can go mid. I think he hasn't a good kill potential, but he can be devastating roaming.
