Supports, do you feel the same way?

I'm a main support, and i'm one of the few people willing to die for my carries.

However, lately I find that the magic number is usually 3 deaths in my lane to figure out if my carry is terrible or not and then i'm just unwilling to take the hit after. At which point I'll go and start warding enemy jungles and ganking the mid lane instead and not spend as much time bot.

Does any other supports feel the same way? Or is my mindset just terrible?

To elaborate, usually 1 out of 3 things happen at this point due to my actions:

  1. Forces the carry to play more carefully, gain more farm/experience because i'm roaming warding and ganking (if i'm playing an aggressive support).
  2. Carry fails and keeps feeding/lose towers.
  3. Carry loses tower but plays smart and is able to farm safely now that the bot lane is going to another lane.

In any of these cases, 1/4 of the map will be lit up because I will usually have 1 pink and 3 wards down.

As an adc main, supports are kind of like big brothers to me. I feel like they need alot more credit, if it werent for them, the adc would just fall over and die

Ditto. If a carry dies before 4 minutes, that's a red flag. If he dies again after that, it's pretty much confirmed already. 3 deaths and I move to other lanes. I mean, I always leave for a little bit to ward deep, and usually the carries will be smart about it and not push the lane when that happens, and I'll come back and lay some more harass down, but ADCs gonna ADC. Oh, and the number of deaths for me to bugger off gets a lot shorter if they start flaming me and blaming me for deaths. "Well if I'm the one causing you to die, better not stay in your lane then..."

I main Zyra support, so I am constantly peeling for my carry. Usually by 4 minutes or so I can have the carry peeled down to about half and we should be engaging at that point OR the carry should start to poke as well. But most of the time by 7 minutes if my carry dies because he overextends after i root someone, thinking that they have enough damage to keep going, i hang up my coat. Because the second they get back into lane they are gonna go straight back in. I also find I have a problem with always getting ADC's that think they are God and constantly try to strong-arm the bot lane by themselves. Anyone else have this issue?

Plus, if the ADC is not doing well, support has really no incentive to stay in lane. Too bad most midlaners can't afford to play with a support because they don't know how to play a 2v1 lane.

I as support main, usually keep being there for my adc, to help him to get at least a bit towards, even if he gave first blood or another kill. Usually I hope that the adc learns from their mistakes, though it can begin to be annoying that people complain that there are not enough wards on the map, because I usually can just place three wards at once :T

The problem is not the death count. I can die even 20x times to save my carry, as it is my job as support. He can die 6 or 7 times as he could have a tough lane match-up, a lot of jungle pressure, or just being defeated by some lucky crits on a tight fight or being dived under tower with the result of a 1 vs 1 swap, and I can see if he deserve my help even if behind The problem is when you see that you and your ADC aren't on the same boat about what to do OR when you see that he can even been mechanically good but fail to grasp a pair of things about the way the game is going and the way to exploit to the enemy team or adapt to it I was playing with a friend of mine that kinda mains ADC, and he was doing fine as far as lathitting goes. The probelm is that with Jinx vs a Vayne in the lane to get every single CS correctly without losing even 1 of them, he let Vayne pushing at early levels and we were often fored to play under tower. The few times we could actually push them back a bit and gain the center of the tower, I warded river brush, and was waiting in the 2nd bot lane brush(looking from purple side) to set up something as Alistair to engage. He stopped at the edge of the first brush and did not move waiting for the minion wave. Their jungler(Jarvan, in another game it happened the same thing and was Lee) with their gapcloser came from the river and gapclosed to him in that brush. I and the enemy bot lane went through the point, I succesfull Qed one time 2 and one time 3 of them, exhausted the closest enemy but he however died...and then he got angry because I didn't exhausted the ADC(which would have required to move away from him anyway i exhausted the jungler or the support I don't remember) when he was yet down at about 1/4 of his health and was basically dead if not flashing away during Q knockup time. This happened 2 or 3 times in the same game. Not need to be said that we flamed each other, we sucked hard and we lost the game beause their bot lane carried hard them I can't say that he is a bad player mechanically, he is probably considerably better than me. But as far as understanding how the game went, he was doing everything wrong. Not pushing a vayne under tower at the cost of some CS(given that she can't farm really well under tower early) is non-sense. Use multiple times Q to clean lane while standing still for seconds doing nothing and not change with minigun make little sense for the way Jinx kit is built...even though he didn't lost 1 CS by doing it so but let Vayne outpush. Not using the E in advance looking at what was happening before, being engaged hard by their junglers in that brush, basically dying and then complain because Exhaust wasn't used that well(I admit it) not looking at the more important fact that I was able to Q all of them and give him a slight chance to save himself when he was fucked even if exhaust was used on the proper target show me that he hasn't understood how the game went. And this not being technically a bad player, or a worse player than me

if the carry has 2 deaths and no kills by level 6 or 7 im usually gone and either mid lane or ganking with the jungler... i do not want to be in that feeding lane and would rather get someone who can play fed... no offense but i cant stand bad adcs... no use healing them if they cant farm or kill

I haven't any clue how people main support without skyping or using curse 'cause I cannot support well without that vocal communication.

Jenex11/4/2014, 10:58:24 PM1 votes

Sounds like another thankless day as a support. I too am willing to die for my carries, but if they start blaming me or can't follow double kills on silver platters I go about doing other things. Ward up other areas with my time, visit lanes, cs at bot because I've lost faith in the adc.

RoyaiChaos11/5/2014, 4:38:45 AM1 votes

I just protect whoever is fed. If it's not my adc, then I simply abandon them (after laning phase that is) But no, I never die to save a teammate unless they are fed. During laning phase if my adc sucks, I try my best to keep them alive, but won't sacrifice myself to save them.

Onegarion11/5/2014, 5:21:20 AM1 votes

You shouldn't feel bad. I actually will quit sooner. Usually you can tell how good an adc is just by how they react to what you are doing. While i will give them the benefit of the doubt either way. If they seem to be playing "bad" and they contribute very little to nothing or can't cs I'm out. I'm going to other lanes and trying to help.

Now I'm a thresh main though so my exact plays are a little difference. Usually I actually end up living and can usually get more kills with the aid of the tower. I get so many people under tower with a simple hook/flay and maybe an ult before they realize whats going on. Usually if we jsut get outplayed and i die a lot I'm not going to hold that against my ADC if we are just outclassed at that moment. You know like twitch/Lucian and you have the twitch. There really isn't much he can do early and I won't blame him for the rough time unless its clear they don't know what they are doing.

Martyrofsand11/5/2014, 4:18:50 PM1 votes

Depends on the support I am playing. If its someone like Thresh/Leona who has high impact CC and pick potential then I rush sightstone+mobis amd get to roaming once I feel my carry can be safe in lane on their own.

If its Nami/Sona/Janna/etc I tend to stay more connected with my ADC, or whoever is carring the match, and give them everything I can to help them continue carring.

When I play support, this is what I do as well. Unfortunately, in these cases, usually my dying for the carry doesn't accomplish anything -- they just go in and die after me, anyways, leading to an incredibly fed enemy adc. At that point, it's basically gg unless the rest of the team has started to snowball.

BigGaySupport11/5/2014, 1:45:43 PM1 votes

It takes me about 5-10 minutes to figure out if my ADC is utter shit. When this happens i rotate top lane. It does wonders to support a bruiser and just shove top lane's anus right into their brain. Braum Janna Nami Thresh Leona

MaknBacnPancakes11/4/2014, 11:24:47 PM1 votes

When I support, I use Sona, if she is unavailable, Janna.. I have 2 situations- me and the ADC click and do just fine.. OR we just don't click- I am too aggressive or they are too passive, and it leads to deaths. NOW.. In scenario 2: if we talk about it and come to an understanding.. Great..we can continue.. If the take the stance of a crying infant.. Call names, talk s^*#, tell me to afk, I leave them to solo bot and go elsewhere where I can be a better asset, I will not support a pompous, crybaby of an ADC. Typically the person I go to ends up carrying, however in some instances the ADC becomes nuclear with vile that they end up afk'ing or feeding.

I completely agree. Fortunately for me, my friend is an adc main so i never have to deal with adcs like that. Though he does get salty, he's able to realize that sometimes it's his fault or sometimes the enemies go so hard that you cant do anything

the feels when you carry harder as support annie thank your farmed ad carry
