Oh, totally. I do it all the time. Often in a support position or adc position (but this is just cos' I like tactical manoeuvres and derive pleasure from as such!!)
I can't recall my masteries, but I use thunderlords for the aa/q/aa or q/aa/laser combo. I have scaling 20% cdr runes, some mregen, a little bit of armour and a little bit of armpen/magpen. Not much inherent defense, but I've got good reflexes and am often pretty confident (sometimes too confident) that I can shield or dodge most've what comes my way.
Okay, the meat:
I start with a
and, depending on whether or not I expect to take any real poke, some potions. Max Q; first back is always sheen
. After a few levels, you'll be outpoking ADCs as long as you make sure to keep distance between q CDs. EXCELLENT for denying exp.
Second item is tear
. Very fun. You'll start seeing your shield become really useful by this point. It'll also be nearing perma-status.
Third, I grab catalyst
. The sustain is instantly noticeable. However, if you are behind, the lack of damage starts to become noticeable as well. You're no longer getting shorter and shorter Q timers, which means your sheen is at peak capacity. From here on out, the build's pretty simple.

- E will clear minion waves around about the time you buy Rod of Ages if you max your death ray second.
- Rylais makes kiting a buhREEZE, but a rabadon will have you hitting anywhere between 800-1100 AP (depending on buffs/runes/potions).
- Muramana will be netting about 200-250 bonus damage, come maximum mana. This will make your AD output (non-empowered Qs) somewhere around the 550s.
- Your shields will be something akin to 500 pts if you go the Rabadon route. This, every 2.4 seconds. I regularly eat Udyrs. It's very satisfying.
- You utterly decimate turrets as you near late game. I've 3 hit Nexus turrets in the past, from full health. The attack speed makes it seem even more absurd.
- With Rod of Ages and a low-cooldown shield, map objectives become childs play very early. I ALWAYS make the personal goal to collect all 5 dragons. But, then again, I'm ALWAYS bot. :P
- Tears are SLOW to stack. If you get Ocean Drake early, begin spamming. You do NOT want to buy archangel's staff before completing your muramana - for some reason, the staff takes precedence, and will ALWAYS evolve, first. This cuts into your ad potential dramatically.
- Be wary that there are periods of weakness in this build path. You'll quite strong early, but quite vulnerable. With Rod of Ages, you'll kind've get a massive sliding into place power spike. You'll feel invincible. This will also fade, as the enemy team catches up. But when you hit full build - when you are the best of both AD AND AP? Watch out. You are a monster. EVERYTHING you do kills everyone. If you're far enough ahead, you can even solo baron. Which is kind've okay. More than not, its disappointing that you can't just do it any time you like.
So yeah - Hybrid Viktor is fun. It's my favourite build. It has its problems, though. Long-range AP champs will ruin your day if they're competent at aiming stuff. It's much safer to head top or bot, where you can minimise your chances of being AP bursted. This build, after all, banks its early game on trading in order to come out superior.
Additional Note: It's easier to just go AP mid. SO much easier. This hybrid build is pretty high risk, late (though, admittedly, somewhat inevitable) reward. But AP mid isn't half as fun as this build, as far as I'm concerned. It also wrecks other Viktors, which is delicious!
